Hey gang, Just wanted to let you know that this upcoming Saturday, January 22nd, we will be having the “Chris Gehrt & Friends” stand up comedy show at the Hollywood Improv Lab at 8162 Melrose in Hollywood.

To kick off the show we will be doing a special movie tribute to actor Russell Todd who played Scott in “Friday the 13th part 2″. We will be playing his scenes from the film and giving him a special award. Russell will be in attendance and we will do a Q & A. Following the tribute is the stand up comedy show.

We would love to get some Friday fans in for the tribute.

So what’s new? We’re now on Facebook, so give us a “like” if you are too. It’s good to put specific names and faces on Jason fandom. But old-school online social activity hasn’t been left behind – not by a long shot. Last night on New Year’s Eve saw the at-long-last debut of the new Message Board. Who needs firecrackers and beer when you can have avatars and ice coffee?

I’d like to welcome back Christian Sellers, on of the finest “graduating” writers here at Friday The 13th Blog. After a 10 month period here back in 2024-2009 he went on to several successes such co-penning the recently released and rave-reviewed The Complete History Of Return Of The Living Dead. Golly whiz, a professional! Chiefly, he’ll be taking care of some unfinished business – his epic Crystal Lake’s Bloody Legacy series of retrospectives.

The Friday The 13th Forum is now online. It’s a beta version meaning there may be some bugs to work out, so if you catch any please do let me know. It also means everything is very ‘early’ in nature – notably the design, and structurally some sections will end up merging or expanding depending on how user activity flows over the next few weeks. But it’s basically all there.

Note, joining gives you a basic slightly restricted account, but after a measly five posts you’ll become a full member with all the privileges you’d expect to come with that.

Anyway, when the Deluxe Editions started trickling out last year (I’m not talking parts 1-3, I’m talking the real Deluxe Editions – 4-8 produced by Dan Farrands of His Name Is Jason) I noticed the early films getting re-releases on my end of the globe. Different cover art, but also different extras – Friday The 13th part 3 lacked 3D, however did have the missing chapter of Lost Tales From Camp Blood so I made the decision to follow the train of local releases. I waited and waited. Eventually we got shitty bare-bones editions of part 4 onward instead. Mind-boggling. So I slapped the USA Super Deluxo’s in my digital cart and… timejump to today.

Friday The 13th Part IV: The Final Chapter – $11.99 – bingo! Not so fast, bucko. A New Beginning, Jason Lives, The New Blood and Jason Takes Manhattan all ranging from – $24.50 to $26.99 or completely unavailable at all. Sure, Amazon Marketplace can help, but individual postage from each buyer is going to make a buy there a no-go. Alright, back-up plan: screw the certificate and take my moolah to DVD Empire – but the truth doesn’t get much better over there when they confirm those four sequels are Out Of Print.

Ouch, man. That hit me right here in my hellbaby heart.

I figure it’s an elaborate conspiracy to teach me a very large lesson to strike while the iron’s hot, haste wakes waste, he who hesitates is lost, etc. etc. etc. But listen, I’m seeking a solution. I’ve relied on Amazon for a decade (and Ebay for single purchases) so haven’t stepped foot outside their perimeter into the online DVD retailer market much. Perhaps someone out there can recommend a reputable place I can get all four for decent prices?

I realized I’ve never shared this with the Friday The 13th audience yet so thought I’d remedy that immediately. This is the trailer to Dustin Ferguson’s Terror At Black Tree Forest, a modern slasher with some real retro sensibilities, notably its usage of the basic slasher framework. The killer was strongly inspired by “Bag-head” or “Hillbilly” Jason from Friday The 13th Part 2.

In full-disclosure I have a Producer credit on this, but if anything my minor involvement actually lessened the Friday The 13th sequel reference somewhat when I suggested elements of The Town That Dreaded Sundown (1976), an earlier movie to feature a bag-headed villain (and in itself a possible inspiration for Voor-Bag).

The flick goes out to an interested DTV distributor this coming week.

The Formspring account of Jason X screenwriter (and Angry Driver) Todd Farmer has been a virtual wellspring of industry insight. Tonight it got me all fired up to hit that CTRL+C & CTRL+V combo for your benefit…

You know, I like to trick my friends about Freddy Vs Jason by telling them it was all part of the Jason X Crystal Lake sim.

For a genre fan like me this commercial breaks the coolness scale early with Kevin Bacon quoting Kevin Bacon from Tremors (1989 – and the best damn monster franchise until Feast, thank you very much). But the real nugget is 25 seconds in – a familiar poster! The Bacon rarely talks about Friday The 13th little own Tremors, and here he opens up the totality of his career for jesty ridicule.

The set-up? His #1 fan – a virtual lookalike (wink) - shows off his shrine-like house devoted to the actor – and new remote gizmo Logitech’s Revue for Google TV gives him instant access to Bacon-centric YouTube videos, inflating his ego to believing he could become The Bacon. Quite funny… and at the same time, the most disturbing role we’ve seen him in outside of The Woodsman.
