With all of the talk about the possible release date for the sequel to 2009’s re-imagining, I have a theory, keep in mind its just my opinion that it is possible that Platinum Dunes could start filming scenes in August and then again film some more scene between November and December to get the snow, and then set a release date for Friday May 13th, 2011. But just keep in mind that is a theory of mine since I strongly believe that if PD is serious about making a good sequel, then they’re not going to just rush everything. No, they will want to plan this baby out now, start filming the last part of 2010, and then release it in 2011.

But don’t get your underwear in a waud yet, because the longer they have to plan everything out, the better the movie will be. You saw what happened when Rob Zombie got involved with Halloween and how he rushed production. We don’t want that for our Friday the 13th sequel. Still, like I said, this is just a theory of mine so take it with a grain of salt until we get something official, but I believe this would be the more logical move to make.

It has always been said, that you never know what tomorrow brings. Well folks that is true, but every story has its ending and when the time comes for Friday the 13th to have its end, how do you think it should end ? He’s been killed off numerous times to ‘close the book’, but he still just keeps coming back. He even came back from hell (Freddy VS Jason), that just shows you this guy just won’t go down.

But since Friday the 13th has been rebooted, then just maybe this version of Jason doesn’t have the regenerating abilities that his original counterpart had. We all know that Rob Zombie’s version of Michael Myers turned out to be easily killed off, so that makes you wonder how important the character of Jason is to the studio execs.

I still say that Jason is in better hands with Platinum Dunes moreso than Michael Myers is with the Weinstein company. I mean they (and Rob Zombie) have literally pissed all over that franchise. But I will leave that for the Halloween fans to discuss.

Our boy, Jason, has proved to be an enigma within the slasher genre. He’s the man behind the mask. Could you have ever guessed he had a song written about him, with him in the music video by none other than the legendary Alice Cooper. Yes, I know there were slashers before him, but no slasher has surpassed him in the films, not even Jigasaw. We are drawing in on the 13th film in the franchise, the second in the second series.

Friday the 13th, in the original series, has 11 films. The franchise is on its second milestone. He was the first fictional character to have won the MTV’s Lifetime Achievement Award, an award only two other fictional characters have won. He was ranked #26 in Wizard magazine’s 100 greatest villains of all time. He is a cultural icon in America.

I will go as far as saying that Jason Voorhees is the Elvis Presley of horror films. Criticize that all you want, but that my friends is just my opinion. I hold the character in high regard. He was my first love in horror. I was disappointed when I watched Freddy VS Jason because I believe they tried to make Jason look weak. That is something I will always hold against director Ronnie Yu.

Now Jason X, we had the always-diabolical Jason. I hold no hard feelings against the creators of that film. They had a great ideal about sending Jason to space, the dialogue could of been better and a sequel to the film would of been nice, but all is forgiven on my part. Personally, when I heard the same guys who penned FVJ, were going to pen the reboot, I got scared because I didn’t want a reboot to end up being like FVJ. But once I seen what they done, I was satisfied with the film. Had New Line hired Ronnie Yu to direct, it would of probably bombed. I hope they leared their lesson with FVJ.

I know it sounds like I hold a grudge, but keep in mind we never grew up with a weak Jason and to be introduced with that concept is just embarrassing. I mean the only reason the director picked Ken Kirzinger over Kane Hodder is because he wanted a Jason that towered over Freddy Krueger, and he wanted someone with sympathetic eyes. I have all the respect in the world for Kirzinger, I think he done the best he could and I’m sure if in the right hands he would of been an effective Jason, but I don’t see that he had a say in the matter.

So in the end, after all of this, do you really want to see the series end ? I’ve heard many fans say they wished there was never a remake, but I believe that if it were put in the right hands then there would be no worries. I think one of the big reasons behind the success of the reboot film was solely because it was made by fans of the original series. All involved were fans of Jason and I think they done something great with that film.

So yeah I will accept a reboot, I will accept Jason Voorhees only if they don’t branch out on him, and when I say that I mean do anything that makes him not Jason. So I look forwards to seeing Jason again.

Ah, yes the great hype. Many of us (at least me anyways) were pretty satisfied with the 2009 re-imagining/reboot film. Platinum Dunes seem to be on a roll with these remakes/reboots. They currently have A nightmare on elm street scheduled for an April 2010 release date, and after that the focus is supposed to go back on the one and only Jason Voorhees.

With the release date postponed, we’re all left to wonder why ? Maybe the creative team hasn’t decided on where they will take this film. Will Mrs. Voorhees play a bigger role in this film than she did in the previous ? I’m not saying I would like to see them go down the road Rob Zombie went down in his disaster of a sequel to Halloween, but I think it would be nice to explore Jason’s origins a little, but not too much. I know many of you like the mystique of his character, and that is fine.

But if not Jason’s mother, how about the even more mysterious Elias Voorhees ? JASON LIVES was the closest the series ever got to Mr. Voorhees. I think this is one mystery that needs to have some light shed on. I mean we know the story of Pamela. The grief-stricken mother who enacted her revenge only to end up decapitated at the end. What if Jason’s father was explored as someone that he actually feared ? An abusive father who constantly abused Jason and his mother.

Freddy Vs Jason poorly explored Jason’s fears, and compromised his character a little, by exposing his fear of water. What if Elias Voorhees were to play a key role in being the only person or thing Jason feared. What if Elias was proven to be as diabolical as Jason himself or even worst him. What if Jason, for about one scene, be considered the anti-hero and finally face his fears by fighting his father ?

I mean these are just my speculations, I’m sure creative isn’t even going to touch the character of Elias Voorhees, because they didn’t in the original series, so why would they in the reboot series ? But then again, Platinum Dunes explored a little bit about Leatherface’s origins in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning. I’m not big on prequels, but flashbacks aren’t bad for sequels either.

So it makes one wonder what the studio has planned for our buddy Jason. Will they even consider the option of introducing a new version of Tommy Jarvis ? For instance, let’s say the kid had issues and he was deep in the gothic subculture. He didn’t care about anything or anybody until the right moment triggered him. He witnessed Jason murder his mother and he snapped and when it came time for Jason to kill his sister, he became just like Jason and attacked. I know that last bit was explored in the original series, but ended up being a cliff hanger for the character as well.

I mean there are so many ideals that the studio could have planned. We’ve already been told that snow could play a role in the movie, I mean Friday the 13th can come anytime of the year. I mean I can picture an ending with Jason and a victim out on the frozen crystal lake. Maybe a hallucination scene where Mrs. Voorhees busts through the frozen ice and grabbed the final girl wouldn’t be too bad.

In the end, it is up to the studio to decide the direction of the sequel. But please name out your ideals. Maybe the studio execs get some of their ideals from the fans, but again maybe not. But as they say, stay tuned!

It’s kind of funny how I became introduced to the series. I was in the first grade, and I saw this movie on the shelf at the store (A New Beginning), and I just had to watch it because the pictures looked so cool. So I rented it and I watched it. I loved it then and I still love it today because it was my first time watching one of the films. So after I had watched ‘A New Beginning’, I went to rent another one, and this time I rented Friday the 13th part 8 : Jason takes Manhattan. I didn’t have knowledge of the correct order so I thought this film was the follow up.

And what is really hilarious, is the fact that as a small kid I never payed attention to the characters names, other than Jason’s, and I honestly thought the character of Julius, was a grown up Reggie the reckless. If that isn’t enough, the next film I ended up watching was the first Friday the 13th. I was disappointed because I really thought Jason was doing all of the killing in that movie, and at the end it showed some crazy lady, which was Mrs. Voorhees. The scene that did feature Jason as a child, in my mind was a follow up to the final scenes with a small Jason in the sewers of Jason takes Manhattan.

I guess I wasn’t a smart little kid back then but I eventually found out the correct order of the films and I watched them in order to get a clear picture of the series.

Jason Voorhees will always remain an important milestone in my life. He was the first character of horror that I was introduced to. I grew up with the series, even if it were out of order, I learned alot from the series on my own. I was then and will always be grateful for the experiences of the Friday the 13th films.

I think without the fans of the series, there would be no series. We payed the money to watch these films in theatres and we collected the VHS collection and the DVD collection. So if you have any stories you would like to share, please do so.

We’ve pretty much come to an agreement that Freddy Vs Jason couldn’t satisfy to the fullest extent, so why not match up two killers who play on the same playground….camp!

Jason was first introduced as a boy who drowned in a lake. Angela was introduced as a girl/boy who ended up in an accident in a lake. So both killers have their history with their lakes.

Both killers also had protective guardians, who would have big impacts on their actions. Angela’s Aunt Martha brainwashed and confused poor Angela to the point to where she had no tolerance for cruelty and she enacted her revenge. Jason’s mother kept him from the world and after her death Jason heard his mother tell him…kill for mother.

So we got one killer who is a master with the machete and we have another killer who is idealistic in the ways she disposes of her victims. It’s obvious that Jason is bigger and stronger than his female counterpart, but Jason in the human form, Angela would stand a good chance.

Perhaps Angela is a character that should be introduced to the Friday the 13th franchise, or at least a character inspired by her. Jason has fought Tommy Jarvis twice and he has fought a telekinetic girl, but he has never fought someone who has so much in common with him.

This would be bigger than Freddy Vs Jason, I know most of you are Sleepaway Camp fans, so you would enjoy watching Jason battle a character that he himself had much influence on.

I’ll leave this to your imaginations!

On a side note…I would give anything to have the old Sleepaway Camp forum back.

Most of us (or at least me) were disappointed with the film Freddy Vs Jason. Since New Line has released the reimagining of Friday the 13th and A nightmare on Elm street is coming soon, let’s forget about the 2003 film for a second and focus on the Mears-Jason versuses the Haley-Freddy.

From what we’ve heard, Freddy is more serious and sinister in the new film, which would totally take the comedy out of the conflict. Let’s imagine a new Freddy Vs Jason, but with a better director because if you ask me Ronnie Yu needs to stay out of the horror genre, especially when it comes to Jason Voorhees.

….Well, yeah but as of yet there is no greenlight, as some insiders say. It is very likely that Marcus Nispel will not return to direct the much talked about sequel. Also on thin ice is Jared Padalecki and Amanda Righetti, who are stars on hit tv shows (Supernatural and The Mentalist), and the reason being is that their schedules just might run in to some conflict with filming.

Unlike the sophomore efforts of other franchises, the new “Friday” is expected to be not a sequel so much as a follow-up, those familiar with the project say,” reports The Hollywood Reporter’s Risky Business Blog “Jason Voorhees will be the villain, of course, but the new picture is expected to use elements of the original franchise more as a jumping-off point than as a template.

The reason? The reboot drew from the first four pictures in the “Friday” series, and producers are said not to be keen on the plot elements of the half-dozen movies that followed. And Marcus Nispel, who directed the latest film, is a possible but unlikely candidate to helm the “Friday” follow-up; the director is believed to be fielding offers for movies across other genres.”

Another issue that will be addressed is that this potential sequel will have more of a Friday the 13th feel, rather than a Texas Chainsaw Massacre feel.

August 13, 2010 is being thrown around as the potential release date, no surprise there really.

Caught a blog over at Platinum Dunes official blog. Brad Fuller discusses the success of the new film, along with fans opinions and how he does read them. He also talks highly positive about how he wants to do a sequel.

Reflecting back on a killer weekend, can you say sequel?

It’s 5am Sunday morning and my house is very quiet – Mrs. Fuller and kids are fast asleep and I have some time to process. This is a huge weekend for horror and a bigger weekend for Jason. Not only did the fans come out to see the film (love it or hate it) but an entire new audience seemed to enjoy Jason also. Friday 13th had the highest opening night a slasher/horror movie has ever had. As you all know Drew, Bay and I worked till the final moment on this film and are thrilled with this outcome.

Couple of things to go over…

First of all, you can bet your ass that we want to do a sequel – I have said that a number of times, but now we have evidence to support that desire. My first call on Tuesday will be to all of the people we worked with at the studios to get moving on another Friday 13th movie. We loved making this one, and already have some thoughts about the next one. I have spoken to Derek (who plays Jason) and we all want to work together again, so I feel very strongly that he will be back. I also know who I want to write it, and will get into that later. I hope to make some announcements about a sequel very soon.

On a side not, here is something that really pisses me off. As you know, I read everything so I can truly give our audience what they are looking for in our films. We all know that we can’t make everyone happy, but we can at least process the information and see how we can use it. That is why I read every review of the film. Now, I never expect to get good reviews on any of our films, although the New York Times has been favorable to us. The reviews for this film were mostly horrible which is fine, but something was written that really bothered me. Some reviews said that we only made this movie for the money. My lifelong dream was to be a movie producer and I have been a lifelong horror fan so I love my job, but I wouldn’t do it for free. In the same way that the reviewers who tear our movies apart don’t write their stupid reviews for free. So to say that we do what we do for the money is just as stupid as saying that our movie isn’t scary or that is looks horrible.

It is time to focus on Freddy. As you know, we hired Samuel Bayer to direct and if you don’t know his work you should YouTube him. He is amazing. We start scouting for locations next week and I will update you accordingly.

More importantly for you horror fans, this is a weekend to rejoice. Our beloved Jason came back to life (again) and he slaughtered the competition. In doing that he also reaffirmed that horror movies are a real business, and one that needs to be taken seriously. For that I am truly grateful to you.

- Brad Fuller

Last night, I went to watch the long-awaited film that we all have been dying to see. I swear the whole state was in that theater wanting to watch it. I live in a small area, so that should tell you how good many people think this movie really is.

The beginning of film, sets the stones for Jason’s true motives. We see the quick introduction of Mrs. Voorhees (and a even quicker exit). Unless something is shown in the uncut version, don’t expect to see anything more than just little Jasons hands and feet, sorry guys.

Flash forward to present day. The film, like many others in the original series, touches base on some kids wanting to do the traditional Friday the 13th antics (sex, smoking weed, etc). Their screen time is short, and very detailed. I thought the death scenes with this group were very creative. When they said Jason was to be smarter about how he got his victims, that was no bullshit folks. I won’t go into the details about the death scenes, but what I will say is that if you’re a weed smoker, you had better not get into Jason’s patch because you, as a soon-to-be victim says, will press the star button for a ass whuppin.

It’s now 6 weeks later, and new bunch of kids. Some of these faces will be familiar. Danielle Panabaker is just downright gorgeous. You’ve got the typical comic reliefs, and dope smokers. Jason, for the first time ever, dispatches one of them by shooting an arrow through their head, when driving a boat pulling a water skiier. Sorry for giving that away, just thought that was an awesome scene.

The scenes following these are pretty intense. We see how Jason plays mind games with his victims. Clay comes the closest, which isn’t even really close, to keeping his own when trying to battle the masked maniac. After the carnage at the lake house, the left-over victims end back up at the old abandoned Camp crystal lake. ***SPOILER ALERT***

We are reintroduced to Whitney, who Jason thinks looks like his long-deceased mother. After she is found, the three make an escape from the lair, and are quickly reduced down to two. Sorry guys, it’s a Jason movie, usually only one male and one female survive. I’ll let you see for yourself which one expires.

The ending proved not to be as good as I had wanted it to be, but hopefully there is alternate endings. The ending payed homage to Friday the 13th part 3, as it took place in a barn. It was a pretty good action sequence itself, with reminders of both the 2nd and 3rd films.

The last shot, Jason ends back up in the lake that he supposedly drowned in as a young boy. Does he come back ? Again, I’ll let you see for yourself. I do think the door is left open for a sequel.

Kane’s conclusion: I think that there was alot of hype to this film, and Platinum Dunes really lived up to that hype. If there was any way they could of rebooted the series, they found a good way to do it . This movie is well worth it’s money, and believe me I might just go back and watch it again. It’s definitely going into my collection. I just hope that they don’t do what they did with Texas Chainsaw Massacre and make a prequel to it. Like I said, the ending left a big opening for a sequel, so let’s hope they feel they don’t need to touch basis with a ‘beginner’. So folks, take it from me, this film proved to be a better remake than any of the others that has been made. Camp Crystal Lake is back in business!!

Fans around the world, today is the final friday before the restart of what has become the most legendary horror series ever. There are some of you who remember it when it all began, some of you who were born in the middle of the saga, and there are some of you who were born in the generation where the first films released after you were born were Jason X and Freddy vs Jason.

We all have our fond memories of the series. I remember back in my grade school days that I used to dress up as Jason nearly every year. There are many memories that the original series brought us. We all remember the most silliest things, and we remember every kill.

Friday the 13th: The one that started it all. This film helped paved the way for newcomer Kevin Bacon to become a mainstream star. This film introduced the series’ legendary setting, Camp Crystal Lake. What was supposed to be a stand alone film, ignited a phenomenon that would last forever. The birth of Jason Voorhees.

Friday the 13th part 2: With the conclusion of the first film, fans enjoyed the film and wanted another sequel. The thought of Jason Voorhees being alive was a theory that produced many scenarios. We were brought back to Crystal Lake 5 years after the previous films events. We learned more about Jason through campfire stories and urban legends, only to find out that he was only a legend in the making.

Friday the 13th part 3: The film that continued the story that Jason was now the killer. We were treated with 3-D effects in this entry. We experienced every kill scene as if it were actually happening to the audience. We saw a new style of characters. Everything from bikers to a pregnant camper, and to a goofy prankster. This film gave birth to Jason Voorhees prized trademark, the hockey mask!

Friday the 13th part 4: The final chapter: This film, like others to follow, was supposed to conclude the series. The film introduced future stars such as Corey Feldman and Crispin Glover. In this installment, the darkest side of Jason was explored. We seen the introduction of twins in the series. The ending proved to be a key factor in the next two films, and marked the last on-screen appearance of human-Jason.

Friday the 13th 5: A new beginning: The film that left many fans disappointed. This film was supposed to follow in a newer direction. Except for a few hallucinations and a flashback sequence, we were treated with an imposter Jason, born from the vengeance of the father of a homicide victim. The ending left many fans wondering if Jason was truly dead after all!!

Friday the 13th 6 Jason Lives: The long anticipated return of Jason Voorhees. We were introduced to the newly resurrected zombie Jason. Jason returns to a newer generation of kids. We are treated with a soundtrack made exclusively for the film by Alice Cooper. There are new kills, and dialogue. This film gave to fans, what they felt was taken from them in the previous film.

Friday the 13th part 7 The new blood: This film gave Jason a distinct portrayer in Kane Hodder. We were introduced to an even darker side of Jason. His appearance now even more distorted than ever. We also saw a theoretical ‘Jason vs Carrie’ plotline.

Friday the 13th part 8 Jason takes Manhattan: Once again, we are given another chance to see our favorite slasher, Jason Voorhees on the killin’ again…or should I say, the cruisin!!

We see for the very first time, Jason in a whole new setting. We see newer killings and whole new people. Instead of campers, we are treated to high school seniors on a trip, and hoodlums in New York. This film remains a favorite amongst fans.

Jason goes to hell The final friday: This film opens a cliff hanger that is still to this day, not understood by some fans. We see the unexplained return of Jason Voorhees, plus the unordinary early demise. We are taken back to Crystal Lake and introduced to Jason’s family, and home. We learn more revelations about his character, and are left with another cliff hanger of a ending.

Jason X: The long and very much anticipated sequel. The ending of the previous film left fans wondering about a possible confrontation with another cinema slasher, Freddy Krueger. Instead, we are yet again left with another unexplained sequel. Instead of having a normal present day Camp Crystal Lake setting, we are shuffled 400 years into the future with Jason slashing up space explorers. We are also introduced to another version of Jason in this film, the upgraded Uber Jason. We are left with an ending that gives the impression that there would be a follow up…but there wasn’t.

Freddy vs Jason: The long-awaited showdown ten years in the making was finally here. We saw the short-lived return of Pamela Voorhees, and a flashback to the young Jason. We seen two horror film icons finally battle it out, only to be left in total confusion. This film took Jasons character to a more softer level. We seen a fearful side of Jason, and what happens when you let Ronni Yu make a Jason movie. I don’t know about you guys, but this wasn’t the kind of showdown I expected. This film was like one more Scooby-Doo adventure.

Friday the 13th (2009): In one week, we will be reintroduced to the most terrifying spectres in American horror cinema. The name that has become a household name, will finally be heard once again. Everything that we have known, will reminded to us in a whole new fashion. We will re-witness the carnage. We will see Jason walking past cadillac escilades, and we will witness the retelling of his story. What we thought was the end, was the reinvention…of a legend.
