So this post was originally going to be how Trent Duncan’s Freddy Vs Jason Vs Leatherface fanfilm was an expertly-shot, flashily edited but all-in-all plotless wank. I had all my zingers lined up. But due to good timing, he recently came back with Freddy Vs Jason Vs Ash. Running at the magic 13-minute mark, it’s safe to assume Duncan has addressed story matters this time round. Let’s take a look.

Basically a bunch of girls (including Nancy’s cousin, in a throwaway line) get stuck in the middle of nowhere and begin to be offed by Jason and Freddy who work together within their respective worlds of reality and dreams to open a portal that will drop Ash at their feet. Why do they want revenge on him? Hmm, I guess this is a loose sequel to the Wildstorm mini-series. Don’t ask me which one. As expected, the short brings in the Necronomicon to link the Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street and Evil Dead franchises. There’s a brisk pace to it, packing in as much action as possible while allowing time to build scenes of the antagonists tormenting (Freddy) and stalking (Jason) their prey.

The acting is uniformly above acceptable standards of the usually sub-amateur fanfilmverse. The girls (Maddie Bright, Ashley Brooke and Erica Lea Shelton) all do fine, running the range of exposition, expressing concern, creeping around, being chased through woods, and being doused in watery blood formula. With Jason (Cheyenne Hess) having perhaps the easiest acting job (though the most physical), he does a good impression of Kane Hodder’s “heaving chest” Voorhees method.

The guys playing Freddy (Danny Zetwo) and Ash (Adam Henrickon) had the biggest challenges, as they were portraying roles synonymous with known actors/faces. Freddy was hilarious, and I’m not sure how much was intentional. What do you expect? It’s a dude in a Freddy mask! But the repeated voice-distorted references in dreamland to “bringing back the Ash” sound like “the ass”, which made me chuckle, while his voice fares much better in ‘reality’, achieving close to Robert Englund voice duplication. As for Ash, there is obviously no replacement for Bruce Campbell. I will say this, he hits all the right beats to make the character noticeably Ash, so that’s a job well done.

A few negatives would be the usage of F13 and NOES scores which are so different they have the opposite effect of unifying the different worlds in this, I would have preferred a less loyal score that went for the middle ground. After so many fanfilms I’m starting to get Manfredini Indigestion. The ‘shaky-cam’ style of filming went a little overboard at times. Choreography was quite well done, but too often Jason is given poor ‘aim’ in order to allow sustained battles to occur. It just makes Jason look a little chumpy. I dug the portal they summon Ash through, basically a rustic version of the Phantasm poles. And the ending sets up the return of Leatherface, which begs the question: what will the next matchup be and how damn long and full of ‘vs’ will the title be?

The Freddy Vs Jason Vs Ash short has a website, and you can watch the entire fanfilm below.

Chapter Ten

The sounds of cheering, laughing and yelling are far off for Christina and

Gerry, as they slowly walk along the gravel road, leading up to the main campgrounds.

They have no idea how they found the paved road that seemed to magically appear, nor

do they know what happened to Keith and Frank, or how they managed to lose them in

the ever-encompassing forest.

Their steps are slow, labored, and steady, along with their breathing. They

walk, side by side, with tired, solemn looks on what looks to be worn faces. Whatever

thoughts or feelings that would need to be said as they get closer, hearing all the familiar

voices, are equally shared, keeping in time.

The scene of the other kids in combat with padded sticks on the beach greets

them as they pass onto the makeshift parking lot, with Jack’s red Pontiac off to the side.

Enough strength resides in them, especially their leg muscles, for them not to fall, as they

walk further along the ground that curves down slightly.

A fleeting hope comes into their minds, of nobody noticing them, at least at

first. They pray for luck to give them just a few minutes of respite, so they can stand

there, taking in the air, letting the breeze brush against them, and watch.

For a time, their wish is granted, as they stop many feet away, appearing to

blend into the background, almost not noticing themselves as they watch without feeling.

They watch two of them in the circle dance and tussle, studying the moves, and not

guessing.

Page 2

From their distance, their tired, numb feelings from before fall away, as they

get caught up in the moment. Fascination takes them over as they smile as the other kids

do, laughing right along, but softly, to themselves.

A sudden smack to the head, and a thrust to the stomach, by one of them in

the circle brings the kids that form the circle cheering. The sounds of whistling, slapping

each other’s hands, and shouts, along with some of them talking trash, become mixed.

The figures of Jim and Greg standing next to each other, facing the beach and the fallen

combatant, are apparent. Though Christina and Gerry have noticed them, the sight of

them does not fully hit them until Jim turns around.

Jim’s eyes instantly find them, but even from their distance, Gerry is certain

that Jim is looking directly into his eyes. Gerry expected Jim to be fully angry at the

sight of him for all the recent aggravation, but he noticed the confusion, and concern, on

his face, which downplays any anger Jim should feel now.

Jim says something to Greg, while they talk to each other for a few seconds,

as Greg looks at them, too. Jim cuts off their conversation, and runs up to them, stopping

a few feet away.

He looks at both of them, but looks at Gerry as he speaks to them. “I was

beginning to think you wouldn’t make it back.”

“Neither did we.”, Christina says to no one in particular.

“How long were we gone?”

Jim looks at his watch, sighing as he takes a long, hard look. “Judging by my

watch, it’s been almost two hours.”

Page 3

Jim doesn’t even bother to notice the red mark on Christina’s face as he looks

at the both of them again. “What have you been doing out there all this time?”

Christina starts to open her mouth, trying to speak. She almost gets a syllable

out before Jim speaks again, waving a hand at them, as if to dismiss their potential words.

“No, no. Don’t tell me. You kids were probably having sex for all I know.”

Gerry and Christina both look at each other at the same time, in surprise.

“Or maybe you weren’t. I wasn’t there. I don’t know.”

He looks down, shaking his head, not bothering to look up.

“Go join the others. Greg will tell you what to do.”

The both of them walk past him, and he watches them go for a few seconds,

before another realization hits him.

“Oh! I almost forgot! You haven’t seen Frank or Keith recently, have you?”

For the last few minutes, even they have forgotten about them, and why they

were pushing through the thick parts of the forest, being swallowed up by fatigue.

Hearing those names freezes them in their tracks.

Gerry finds his voice first, as he turns around. “What? No. Why?”

“They’re not back yet.”

Christina cuts in. “Good!”

Jim looks at here, perplexed. “That’s nice, dear, but do you think you can

help me figure out why they’re not here?”

“Sure. I think I can do that. We stopped when Frank became tired. We

talked, and after arguing about why we’re all here, they attacked us. We went off the

Page 4

path to get away from them, and they followed us. Now, here we are. Does that help?”

Jim stares at her with a blank, yet disgusted look on his face. “How do you

expect me to believe all this?”

Christina takes a step towards Jim. “Why don’t you look at this? You think I

did this to myself?!”

She points to the red handprint on her cheek as she looks angrily at Jim. He

looks at the mark on her face, looking closer as he takes hold of her chin, turning her face

to the side.

He lets go of her chin. He looks at Gerry, then back at Christina. “Ok. So,

maybe you’re not all pulling some prank. But, what are Frank and Keith still doing out

there?”

“They probably got lost, and are crying about it. Next thing you know,

they’ll be making out to comfort each other.”

Jim raises his eyebrows. “And what do you base that on?”

“Oh please. From the time they got here, they’ve been together. And, as

long as I’ve known them, they’ve been inseparable. There’s gotta be something going on

there, don’t you think?”

Jim looks down at her, smiling. “Cute. I suppose you’d like to thank the

academy, too. Why don’t you take that perception and go join the others.”

Gerry starts in, “But…”

“Go! I’ll worry about Keith and Frank.”

Christina turns around first, walking away, then Gerry follows her.

Page 5

Gerry catches up to her, and they walk together. “Why do you have to keep

provoking him like that?”

“Because he’s being stupid. Us showing up late, me with a red handprint on

my face, and those two asshats stuck in the woods… Anyone can figure out that remedial

math.”

Gerry smirks, smiling to himself, as well as the scene of combat, as they

continue walking. “You got me there.

The two of them walk up to the crowd. Greg notices them. “It’s about time

you two showed up. Put your gear on over there. You just made it in time to get your

asses beat, or beat some ass.”

As Gerry follows Christina, who goes to where Greg is pointing to a few feet

away, they put their helmets on, while they slip their shoes off, and grab their padded

sticks.

Gerry sits down in an empty spot in-between two of the kids. The one to his

right takes their attention off of the fight, and looks at him.

“It’s too bad you weren’t here earlier. You missed a lot.”

Gerry recognizes the voice belonging to Karen. “Oh?”

Another one of the kids leans over past Karen to peer at Gerry. “Oh yeah,

man. Your girl, Audrey, beat the hell out of the first reigning champ, and then suckered

me into it.”

Gerry looks at Jack. “Really?!” He then looks at the two kids fighting in the

circle. He says to himself, “Wow.”

Page 6

Seeing the small figure of Audrey hold her own in the ring against one of the

boys, takes away any expectations that he has built up in his mind about her, and

crumbles them to dust. In his dreams, he has always known that she was always more

than what people saw. In the time that they have known each other, he has wondered

what was really behind her exterior, and when she would come out of her shell.

As she gets jabbed hard in the stomach, she grunts and backing up. Their

padded stick is thrust at her head, but she manages to ignore the pain, and sidestep him,

and swing her swing as hard as she can. It smacks him in the back of the head, sending

him crashing and tumbling to the sandy beach.

Gerry can tell by the groans coming from the helmeted body that it’s Mike

that just had his ass handed to him. Amidst the cheering, clapping, and whistling, Jim

walks in-between Mike and Audrey, who thrusts her stick into the air triumphantly.

“I warned you not to try to take her on again.”

Jim stands over Mike, leaning over him. “You gonna take this abuse,

aren’tcha?!”

Mike tried to focus his eyes for the next few seconds. Jim gets frustrated as

Mike stays dizzy.

“Mike! Hey, Mike! I’m over here! I asked you a question.”

Mike looks at Jim through the helmet with a faraway, dreamy look in his

eyes. He answers with a tired voice.

“Um, yeah.”

Jim smiles at Mike as he slowly picks himself up, pushing up off the ground.

Page 7

Jim doesn’t bother to wait for Mike to stand up and walk away as he

continues. “Ok. We only have time for one more bout. So, since most of you have

already faced Audrey here at least once, I think it’s fair that one of our newcomers have a

taste of her medicine, too.”

Jim looks in the direction of Gerry, finding him, then looking for Christina,

finding her, too. He stares at her, expecting her to say something, to react somehow.

She brings her head back slightly, in agitated defiance. “Oh, no. The way I

feel, I feel like I already was beaten up. I don’t think I can feel her hit me, anyway.”

Jim just smiles what looks to be the biggest smile Christina has ever seen on

anyone. He reaches down, and grabs her firmly by the arm.

“Perfect! You got the right attitude for this. Let’s go.”

“Ow! Let go of me! That hurts!”

Jim brings her up for her to stand on both her feet. He leads her more into the

middle of the circle. She has a hurt look on her face, which Gerry can’t help but noticing.

“Um, Jim? Why don’t I do this?”

Jim turns to look at him. “You stay out of this. She needs this.”

“But, what if there’s enough time? How much time is left, anyway?”

Jim stops moving. Without even turning his head to look at Greg, Greg calls

over.

“About ten minutes.”

Jim thinks for a few seconds, then looks back at Gerry. “Ok. If she gets beat

quick enough, then you can have a shot.”

Page 8

Greg hands Jim a padded stick, which he puts in Christina’s hands. He

shoves her towards Audrey, who immediately swings her stick at Christina. Her instincts

kick in faster than she realizes, and her hands move the stick, blocking the stick from

hitting her head.

Christina jumps back, and Audrey follows her. She slowly chases her as

Christina backs up in careful steps. Each of them tries to gauge each other’s possible

moves, their thoughts. Each thinking they can see into each other as they look at the

others’ eyes, knowing not only their moves before they make them, but any move they

have ever made.

Christina knows exactly what Audrey is trying to do, pushing her back to the

edge of the circle. She runs two steps, and jumps with all her speed, heading past

Audrey. Audrey almost misses this, and tries to sweep out her legs from under her.

Instead, she sweeps empty air, but both girls turn around to face each other again.

Seeming to move all on their own, Christina’s hands thrust the padded stick

as hard as she can into Audrey’s chest, making her cry out.

Gerry cries out. “Hey!”

She is unable to stop herself, even as Audrey stumbles back, clutching her

chest in pain. She doesn’t notice the tears, or the heavy, labored breathing from Audrey.

Even she has forgotten why she has reacted this way. She just knows that she has.

Christina takes another step forward, and Audrey stumbles back further. She

loses her balance, and she falls flat on her ass with a resounding “fump!” sound. Gerry

doesn’t bother to wait for anyone to say or do anything as he gets up. He takes hold of

Page 9

Audrey’s stick, and, looking at Audrey, tosses the stick back to Jim.

Nobody says a word as Gerry bends down to Audrey’s level. He takes her

helmet off her head, and seeing the tears streaming down her face, he embraces her,

helping her up as they rise together.

She softly whimpers in-between her sniffles as they walk together, back

towards the cabin she is using. The kids in the circle in front of them move to the side,

parting to let them pass. All that the two of them can hear is their own footsteps, and

their breathing. It quickly changes as Ben rushes to find Audrey’s shoes, and with them

in one hand, and a blanket in the other hand, joins them, wrapping the blanket around her.

They walk together, as Gerry and Ben each have an arm around her, safe as can be.

As they walk, Jim calls to them. “Hey! You still have a few minutes left!

Hey! Hey! What’s they matter with you?!”

They ignore him as they walk on.

Friday The 13th Convention Scam Attracts Mainstream Media http://fridaythe13thfilms.com/blog/friday-the-13th-convention-scam-attracts-mainstream-media/ http://fridaythe13thfilms.com/blog/friday-the-13th-convention-scam-attracts-mainstream-media/#comments Thu, 09 Jun 2024 05:15:49 +0000 Dusk http://fridaythe13thfilms.com/blog/?p=15408 Who says horror fans on the internet don’t have a voice? Not sure if you’re familiar with the whole Camp Blood: Friday the 30th convention debacle. I really shouldn’t be familiar with it because I’m in Australia so that whole scene is gladly off my radar, but I have been following the nasty affair as closely commentated by The Bloodsprayer website (until they stopped covering it in March. Hmm).

The non-event that put the con in convention has so far financially fleeced many members of the Friday the 13th fanbase. The last shifted date/no-show was Friday, May 13th, pretty much the nail in the coffin. Fan-outrage has now crescendoed with news coverage of the snakeoil shennenigans plus well as wheels in motion for legal intervention. Deserves an air fist pump, all.

This video interviews some affected and skips the interwebby drama to summarize the main points of the deception – even approaching the organizer on the street for comment. If you lost money, it’s vital you watch the news piece for advice on getting it back – or getting even (legally, of course).

Waiting For The New Blood Unrated Edition DVD http://fridaythe13thfilms.com/blog/waiting-for-the-new-blood-unrated-edition-dvd/ http://fridaythe13thfilms.com/blog/waiting-for-the-new-blood-unrated-edition-dvd/#comments Tue, 07 Jun 2024 12:04:16 +0000 Dusk http://fridaythe13thfilms.com/blog/?p=15346

Back in December I spoke of my quest to obtain the Friday the 13th sequel Deluxe Editions. Because you surely couldn’t sleep at night without a follow-up on that, I’m pleased to report I indeed purchased all of them – some of them being the French Canadian versions, but same content. Against habit, I didn’t whip through them, opting instead to spread them out over the past few months so I could appreciate each over-watched film again, and more importantly savor those exquisite special features put together by His Name Is Jason director Daniel Farrands. Now that my sojourn is over, I’ve taken away one major thing:

My opinion on Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood has completely changed.

I’ve probably watched The New Blood more than any Friday… yet found it the most plodding and derivative of them all. Oxy moronic? I’m a multitasker and like to do fifty things at once, so sometimes it really helps to have a movie in the background that is – how shall I say – reliably bland. As a result, movies of dubious merit get a special concession. For a specific period in my life, TNB fit the bill: Nothing really happens in it. The finale has some fun stunts and pyrotechnics. It’s a dollar store version of The Final Chapter. And all of John Carl Buechler’s talk in Fangoria back in the roaring 80′s of this entry’s deep metaphysics was prime horseshit. But dangit, I loved having that video on repeat, providing a easy visual and aural backdrop to my daily work while not demanding dedicated attention. I loved it, just not in the way most others did.

Now that I have the DVD? Woowee, you’ve watched the deleted scenes, right? If not, check ‘em out below. I actually bypassed the ‘slashed scenes’ section of the disc because I assumed I’d already seen them in the From Crystal Lake To Manhattan boxset and knew no better source had been found in the intervening years – it was just JCB’s old workprint tape being put through the ringer again. Psh. It wasn’t until later on when I decided to give it a play so I could technically say I watched every part of the Deluxe DVDs I paid handsomely for. What I watched was a revelation, plain and simple.

Compare the meager clips of MPAA-censored gore shots off the FCLTM set against the 16 minutes (!) of scenes of the recent DVD! Seeing them in full, and in some case alternate form, really hammered home that the cuts didn’t just remove the ‘money shots’ of the movie, but really depowered Jason as the furious – yes, metaphysical – force of nature both JCB and Kane Hodder intended him to be. Those censored kills turned out to be only part of the losses TNB suffered, with some character development moments and a fun stalker POV scene between Kevin Spirtas and Lar Park-Lincoln that provided a little thematic continuity with Jason Lives and lightened up the drab story. The sloppy way the gore was edited out and the extraction of these interesting ‘people’ moments leads me to believe MPAA weren’t the real villains in this chapter of the saga but once again Paramount. TNB was neutered from the get go – way back in the development stages, but it turns out both screenwriter Daryl Haney and director Buechler really did try to elevate the material during the darkest period of Paramount Picture’s embarrassment over the series’ success.

As much as Paramount have sucked, they also rule for allowing these deluxe editions to happen and making the right choice to get the right people to make them happen. I know many fans won’t be happy with anything less than a restored uncut version – but complaining and petitioning for that is an exercise in futility. The original elements being lost by now and the reality that this is not a cash cow that has can be bled dry like say, Army of Darkness and Halloween (both of which received extended cuts as just one variation between several reissues). The ship has sailed. But here’s the cool thing – the power is now in fans’ hands to do the dirty work themselves. We have all the censored elements now. The New Blood is the most wanted uncut version, for the reason that the cuts so drastically altered the impact of the movie. So it’s astounding that no one has yet taken the footage from the recent DVD and done the movie justice. Well, there has been talk in fan circles and I do already own a fanmade Unrated Edition (cover sleeve pictured up top), but it was constructed pre-Deluxe Edtion so is only half a victory when viewing, you know?

I have some advice to anyone seriously intending on putting it together: first off, it isn’t as simple as treating the project as a puzzle and dropping the slashed scenes into their rightful places – finesse is needed to properly integrate them and editorial sacrifices need to be made: Deletion of some material in the existing film and proper transitioning of scenes. Minor digital cleanup work on the slashed scenes will be vital to correct the contrast so it matches your source copy of the movie. Which brings me to the most important move a fan-ed can make: using a DVD print of the movie will tank the edit completely. The difference in quality is going to be jarring and that is going to mean immersion will be impossible and the cut only enjoyed on a novelty level. The vital key to restoring The New Blood is to use an old, beat up VHS  copy of the movie as that would most match the crappy quality of the slashed scenes. By that, the viewer than has the best chance of being able to appreciate the restored cut as a whole and watch the story the way it was meant to unfold.

Web Series Masks Revealed, Sort Of http://fridaythe13thfilms.com/blog/web-series-masks-revealed-sort-of/ http://fridaythe13thfilms.com/blog/web-series-masks-revealed-sort-of/#comments Fri, 03 Jun 2024 11:46:54 +0000 Dusk http://fridaythe13thfilms.com/blog/?p=15270

If you haven’t jumped on board Friday the 13th: The Obsession, you’re missing out. While we wait for a new official film, this professionally-shot web series promises a solid continuing storyline. From my vantage point it seems in the vein of New Nightmare.

Producer Tim Whitfield has released a photo of the four different Jason hockey masks that will be used – well, three of them with the forth blurred-out for now (click the image above). Can you match the masks up with the existing sequels they’re modeled after or inspired by? I have a fairly good idea, but I know a lot of you out there are really into the whole “hock” scene (of which lack of disposable income precludes me from giving a shit about) so could make a more educated guess.

The cool thing about these masks is that some or all may be worn by either Jason or the main female. Can’t wait to find out – the series begins rolling in a week or two!

While this is being made directly for the fans, I can’t help but recall a web short for a Mortal Kombat movie pitch lead to an official web series by Warner Bros for that franchise, now playing – will this wake up the same company to the talent at Timberwolf West? I wish.

Fridaythe13thfilms.com has an associate producer credit on the series, as a contributor to the successful Kickstarter funding campaign.

Friday The 13th XIII (Fanedit) Review http://fridaythe13thfilms.com/blog/friday-the-13th-xiii-fanedit-review/ http://fridaythe13thfilms.com/blog/friday-the-13th-xiii-fanedit-review/#comments Tue, 17 May 2024 11:34:22 +0000 Dusk http://fridaythe13thfilms.com/blog/?p=15028

Most fanfilms I watch bite the big one, so I instead turn to fan-edits for my fun outside of the official release spectrum. Fanedits get a bad rap, usually being existing movies with a few deleted scenes jerkily forced back into place. But like fanfilms there are good ones too, and the good fanedits take existing movies, recycling and repurposing the footage for new creations. They’re not meant to match against or replace the originals, but simply offer creative expression.

Retro Horror Remix is a recently closed outfit that turned out some pro-level recuts in the past few years and one of their projects was a set of Friday the 13th sequels taking the New Line Jason entries and making them more “Paramounty” – rescoring them with Harry Manfredini music, cutting them down to virtual shorts (like I said, these aren’t meant to be replacement features, just alternative experiments in entertainment), and imbuing a cohesive feel and continuity to those later chapters that felt like a string of standalone entries.

The RHR Friday the 13th fanedits include:

  • Friday the 13th Part IX The Final Friday
  • Friday the 13th Part X: Jason Takes Freddy
  • Friday the 13th Part XI: Jason Forever
  • Friday the Part XII: Jason Reborn

…and now, Friday the 13th Part XIII (13), which is what I’ll be talking about today. Here’s the blurb:

Picking up at the end of Part XII (the “Friday The 13th” remake), Jason discovers a family living in a nearby cabin. Thanks to a huge rainstorm the power goes out, giving Jason perfect opportunity to wreck havoc for the final time.

Having burned through the official movies for material, the cool thing about this entry is that it integrates the fanfilm Friday the 13th: The Storm into the series. That fanfilm is pretty much thought of as one of, if not the, best efforts accomplished. It pretty much married the basic storytelling of the earlier Fridays with a slick professional look. I don’t know if the makers will be jazzed or pissed that it has been re-edited into this fan-based work but I’d imagine there’s no greater compliment than the editor choosing it above all others to stand alongside the official chapters in quality. Jason’s multiple “final” sendoffs in the movies always felt artificial to me, but within this slightly altered narrative, having Jason’s epic adventures end on a back-to-basics house rampage just felt right.

The short breaks down like this: it opens up with the once-traditional final moments of the previous sequel (in this case the Whitney prelude from the remake) before old school white text on black screen credits. At that point the rest is Friday the 13th: The Storm, but instead ends on some rejigged Voorhess fanclips to create an almost upbeat Jason “open” ending that spins off into the disco theme from Friday the 13th part 3. It all sounds pretty whacked-out, but geez does it leave you pumped up and wanting more.

Despite a minor credits gaffe (Tom Whitfield? Oh really?) I found myself pretty entertained with Friday the 13th Part XIII. I’m more selective with time in my older age and don’t have time to rewatch the Friday features over and over like I did as a teen, so custom projects like these that are short on runtime but high on action and surprise offer ways to make what’s old all new again.

Next time, I go one chapter backward and review Friday the Part XII: Jason Reborn which answers the question: can a modern remake be turned into a classic-style sequel?

F13TH THE OBSESSION: New Poster & Updates http://fridaythe13thfilms.com/blog/f13th-the-obsession-new-poster-updates/ http://fridaythe13thfilms.com/blog/f13th-the-obsession-new-poster-updates/#comments Thu, 31 Mar 2024 10:08:25 +0000 Dusk http://fridaythe13thfilms.com/blog/?p=14894 From director Tim Whitfield:

The web series is the rebirth of the first Timberwolf Project ever. A Friday the 13th fan film from 1997-1998 which has taken on a life all its own. We first announced this project a few blogs back, along with the casting of Hannah. And now we get to show you the first “Obsession” poster to feature her in the series. “This is another example of me recasting a male role with Hannah, as the role was a guy in the 90s version. ” Tim admits, “Maybe I just don’t like boys! But seriously, she does has a complexity where she is able to take on and adapt a part that was originally for a guy, and still keep its toughness or brute force, but still not loose the fact she is a beautiful and sexy woman. She was my first choice, but then I felt, well ‘I can’t put her in EVERYTHING, so I started looking around and even talked to a few actresses, but ultimately it just felt right with her.. and Rydell’s sage advice of ‘why the hell not’.  But with this project, I have to admit I am fascinated with seeing a woman take on the role of “Jason”, with the mask, the machete, the whole damn thing.” As people following this project know she won’t actually be playing Jason himself, but a character who takes on his persona. That said, Tim felt a guy doing that has been done before, in the actual series back in Part 5, so he wanted to take his idea and take it even one step further with Hannah in the lead role of this new version of Obsession. The series will start shooting this summer after the release of Photographic and Diary Of A Black Widow.

Wanna help make Obsession? Fans can help Obsession get made by visiting this page. While we did reach the original $500 goal, and in fact passed it, we wanted to leave the page open both to let fans take part and get the perks, and because the more support we get, the better the series will be.

Excited yet? Now that there’s some artwork for the series I hope to give the design here a spruce-up and really kick my epic plans for the blog into high-gear. Or something like that.

F13 THE OBSESSION: Developing Details http://fridaythe13thfilms.com/blog/f13-the-obsession-developing-details/ http://fridaythe13thfilms.com/blog/f13-the-obsession-developing-details/#comments Tue, 22 Mar 2024 05:17:30 +0000 Dusk http://fridaythe13thfilms.com/blog/?p=14885 Latest Friday The 13th: The Obsession updates from the official Facebook:

Joe Patnaud (director of “F13: The Storm”) is 90% set to direct the first episode of the series. The series opens at Crystal Lake where the ‘real’ Jason slashes his way through the lead’s (Hannah Townsend) friends in her nightmare. This scene will set the tone that no matter what new levels of characterization and story the series takes you, its still a F13 story at its heart, by fans, for fans.. with a new twist.

Multiple Jasons?

While Jason’s ‘look’ in “Obsession”, even in the old “Obsession” back in the late 90s was never intended to be one look, and it was decided to mix different favorite elements from the series… but now after talking it over with Gene Mazza the mask maker.. Jason may even change looks IN the series itself… hmmm.

After thinking it over, it is plausible to have Jason’s appearance change from one scene to the next as he is the vision of the lead character.. added to that I may come up with a reason for it… Mood perhaps.. or depth of her Obsession…. something to consider in the final script. The Part 2 Jason was in fact in one scene in the 1997 version “Obsession” so taking this a step deeper isn’t out of context or a off the cuff idea… in fact it was always in the story to a lesser (and 1997 budget hindering) extent.
