In it I flash my Jason geek badge, heap praise on the people that have made this site what is is throughout past and present, and generally try not to sound like too much of a jackass. Just a quick reminder to our readers that we have had a very popular Friday The 13th Email Service available for several years now. It’s completely free, and we have thousands of active users. After the excellent article by jasonsfury I wiped away the nostalgia-fueled tears and decided to do a follow-up on the history of this awesome site I get to run.

Although I had sporadically hit up the site back in the fridaythe13th.com days during its seeming merry-go-round of designs and possibly webmasters, it wasn’t until the era of Jason X, post-2000 that I was sucked into the site as a regular visitor. That can be attributed to the top tier work by Blake and Brenna in the user-friendly streamlined design and commitment to upping the ante for Friday content. Up till that point, Fangoria magazine was the only place you could get a proper Friday fix, and even then only when a new entry was near. Blake and Brenna brought monthly, weekly, sometimes daily content to the web, making life during delays of new films much easier for us all.

I’m rabidly after info about the pre-2000 era of the website under its original domain and various webmasters as I’m currently compiling what you could call a ‘historical document’ to properly chronicle the legacy of this site which has had such an impact on what it is to be a Friday The 13th fan (and I can say that without pretention, since I had nothing to do with it, having come on board in 2007 – ha!). Post in the comments or hit me up on email with any memories you have.

“Hardcore fans, not satisfied with the 11 films available, have even created their own Friday the 13th movies.

Brenna O’Brien, co-founder of Fridaythe13thfilms, says her favourite tidbit of trivia involves the foundation of the franchise.

“[Producer Sean Cunningham] took out a large ad in International Variety in 1979 that simply said “Friday the 13th – The most terrifying film ever made!” At that point, all that he and co-producer Steve Miner had was a title and a logo. No script, no actors, no location, nothing. They hoped that once they could create enough interest and enough money that a storyline would come along that would live up to that tagline. Fortunately for us all, it did.”

For mine, I find it interesting that Jason Voorhees didn’t actually kill anyone in the first Friday the 13th (his mum did the dirty work), and that his widely recognised trademark – the hockey mask – wasn’t adopted until the third film in the series.

O’Brien and Blake Washer have been running Fridaythe13thfilms for almost seven years, and share an intimate knowledge of the films.

It’s long overdue, but the doors are open again to add new blog accounts here at FridayThe13thFilms.com. As of late it’s been me (John) and Tony handling everything, and we can only do so much. There is about to be an absolute explosion of all things Jason, so we want to bring more posters on board.

How to apply

Shoot me an email at f13admin@gmail.com and let me know who you are and what you want to write about. Maybe give me a few examples of the sort of stuff that should be posted right now but hasn’t been, so I know you have eagle eyes (very important). I will only reply to a few I’m interested in, so make this one email count.

Who you need to be

A big Friday fan, a literate writer, someone who is used to posting in forums and/or blogs.

What we give you

You will receive a username (of your choice), password (can be changed) and the URL for the posting dashboard. You’ll largely have the freedom to post what you want when you want.

What’s required

Basically, I am after people who will be on top of posting the latest news or articles on anything and everything related to Friday the 13th whether it be remake stuff, merchandise, or whatever random piece of interest you have in mind.

A final word

Please no half-hearted applicants, guys. I’ve spent so much time in the past emailing back and forth with semi-interested parties whose interest has eventually fizzled out. So I am especially grateful to the guys who have blog accounts here. It’s a small dedicated team here that is the guiding force of Friday fandom on the web.

I’d also like to holler out a welcome to Tony & Christian who have been helping keep this blog up to date. I am looking for maybe one more machete monkey to come on and catch any remake news we miss (had a lot of big promises last search but many people just vanish off the face of the earth when it comes time to walk the walk).

I’m probably my own worst critic, but let’s see what you guys think – you know the deal, constructive comments or criticism will be appreciated (unless it’s “where’s the forum, jackass!” – discussion is now right here, learn to live with it). I’m open to any sort of tweaking or ideas you have for improving what has always been (and hopefully still is… or will be again, at least) the ultimate Friday The 13th website.
