  1. I really dig the part V menu.

  2. Hope they set a blu-ray release for these soon.

  3. Are these releases worth buying? :-[

  4. well I Like them a hell of a lot better then the box set one although a nice JASON LIVES poster image would be nice for 6 Im sure the 2 and 3 will be slightly diff then the dvds I just want those fatures even if they turn out to be big puff pieces and i def love to hear a danny steinman commentary he was funny on his name was jason

  5. Ken Tarallo said on frightstuff that he was going to be on these dvd’s. Ken said that he didn’t have time for His Name Was Jason, but Daniel Farrands included him on these dvd’s. I can’t wait to see the creator of the mask finally get some credit for his work.

  6. Ok, So I got advance copies of iv-vi tonight and popped in part 4 to see the lost ending and it’s quite cool. The sound has been lost but the picture looks great and Zito and Beck do commentary over the scene. :SPOILERS: It’s the next morning and trish and tommy are sleeping on the couch. The wake to the sound of police sirens and Tommy runs across the way to tell them they need help. Trish then notices water leaking through the ceiling and goes upstairs to the bathroom. She pulls back the curtain and finds mrs jarvis’ body in the tub. She pulls the body up and her eyes open, milky white. then a maskless, post machete attack Jason rises up behind her, mechete raised. there are also someouttakes of Jimmys dance moves on the disc I’ll report back with more when i’m done

  7. You would think with such awesome DVD menus they would’ve been able to fix the covers for these special editions.

I’m a tiny bit disappointed by the ‘lost ending’ review above. No sound? It still sounds creepy and the commentary is a nice touch (without sound I guess thats the best they can give us) but I was expecting something more intact. People have been complaining about “What happened to Ms. Jarvis” for years. Now they can all shut the fuck up. Finally. And this seriously puts a dent in the complaint that Paramount doesn’t make an effort to dig for the kind of extras that fans want in their Friday DVDs…now fanboys will have to dig for some new things to complain about when it comes to Part 4. This totally sucks for me because I usually carry the disposition that I hate life everywhere I go. Nothing is ever right for me…and I like the blame others for the reason I ended up workign customer service at Walmart instead of being catipulted to the horror icon I always deserved to be.

  8. Nice stuff, except the covers. Why did they just not clean up the original cover art for all of them and use the classics?

Hoping they release these (and the entire series) on blu-ray quickly. I hope, I hope.

Recently downloaded part 9 (JGTH) to make sure I remembered right in thinking it was awful…and I was right. Utter crap.

NewLine has not done F13 a good turn at all. Like someone said a while back…Lionsgate would have done Friday the 13th’s better (after Paramount gave it up).

    ….I warned the others…

  9. I think an uncut deluxe edition of Part 7 will add some credibility to the rest of these releases. If they can include something like a “lost ending” for Part 4, I don’t see why they can’t reinsert the edited kills from Part 7. Especially since the footage exists and is widely attainable. All they need to do is clean it up a little and even if its damaged, I think fans would appreciate it being spliced back into the movie. Fox released the workprint for Alien3 on DVD a few years ago and while some of the footage looked raw and had bad sound, most fans agreed that it still made a better movie than what they saw in theaters. Are you listening, Paramount?

  10. At least some of the other menus for Jason Lives actually have pictures FROM Jason Lives. I’ll probably pick up TFC and JL, when they come out.

  11. Yeah, these 3 new disc finally left me with the feeling Paramount put some effort into these releases. the 4 commentary is great, 5 commentary is a little to jokey but the greatest addition of all is the slashed scenes. It’s the uncut kill scenes and alternate scenes taken directly from film and fill the whole screen, not a vhs source windowboxed.
As for the artwork I really don’t mind it. Sure using the original artwork like they did for the 99/00 releases of the first 4 would be preferred but in person these look quite nice. All the art is painted and reminds me more of the painted artwork you would see on a turkish or spanish poster plus these are a million times better than the shitty photoshop job given to parts 5-8.

  12. PS- All I can say for those who want an UNCUT part VII DVD; You be real happy come this fall. That is all.

  13. Jimbo X, I couldn’t agree more. Part 7 should be released uncut… My guess, is that Deluxe Editions for Parts 7 and 8 will come out around October. And where Part 8 isn’t all that popular, they’ll probably put more thought and money into Part 7. So there’s a good chance it will be uncut. Out of all of the friday directors, Buechler seems to be the most pissed about the cuts, and seems to be the most interested in working on an uncut version. I don’t see any reason for Paramount not to release it uncut, but then again, it is Paramount we’re talking about. So who the fuck knows… I really hope Part 7 is released uncut.

  14. Good you ignored me :) Thought so lame’oh’s!

  15. Sick Nick, I hope you’re right about Part 7 this fall. An uncut version would be great.

  16. Chad,
I have it from a certain person involved with these new SE DVD’s the part VII will indeed be uncut.

  17. I\’m so excited.I just can\’t hide it. I\’m about to lose control and I think I like it!

  18. What the F*ck happened to Lost Tales of Camp Blood Pt.3????

  19. slick nick, are the slashed scenes for part 4 death scenes or just those same tv scenes we always get?

i can’t wait to get my hands on the part 6 death scenes blown up to full screen. i’ve already taken the ones from the boxset, enlarged them and reinserted. it provides a little satisfaction but the difference in quality is so drastic. i’m gonna have a blast messing with this stuff.

part 7 uncut!!! i’m gonna shit. i will pay any price for that.

  20. An “uncut” release of 7 would be great, but I’m not sure that the original elements still exist. The footage that circulates on the net is pretty grainy, and I’m not so sure could be inserted back into the film properly. I truly hope that this is NOT the case, and that they can restore this film to the cut that Buechler intended. If nothing else, I’m sure the sub-par transfers of that footage will be included in the deleted scenes.

  21. Just got my 4, 5 and 6 deluxe ediitons in the post. I right away put in the Final chapter disc. The “Lost Ending” is amazing, and great quality but has no sound. But Joesph Zito and Kimberly Beck do commentry over it and it has subtitles describing what would be happening. It pretty much rocks and it’s a shame it has no sound.
The slashed scenes are actually dalies and out-takes which show the set up of some of the gore scenes and again they are in great quality. Overall Paramount have really stepped up for this release. Will update with other features.

  22. Lost Tales of Camp Blood Pt.3 is on the blu ray for Friday the 13th 3.

  23. does anyone know for sure whether they’re doing blu-rays of these within a reasonable timeframe? money is really tight lately and i definitely can’t buy both DVD and blu-ray…but i really want these SOON to see the slashed scenes and stuff. getting them in some form is a necessary expense for me.

my luck, months and months will go by with no announcement of blu-rays, i’ll finally break down and get the DVDs and they’ll announce them the next day. then i’ll try to sell the DVDs on ebay to make back some of the money and end up getting like a dollar for each.

  24. I’d love to believe that the SE of Part VII will be uncut, but I’m not going to hold my breath. If Kane’s VHS tape is the only existing copy of the excised footage, splicing such poor quality footage back into the theatrical cut would just make for an awkward presentation of the film. I’m still not sure I understand what happened to the original cut of the film. Many years ago, John Carl Buechler told me via email that the footage was available and that he was willing to do a director’s cut of the film, but by the time the boxset came out, the word from Paramount was that the only existing copy of the cut footage was the version they slapped on the extras disc, which looks like it came straight off of Kane’s videotape. Is it possible that some dug up the original footage somewhere in the depths of the Paramount vault?

  25. When something sounds too good to be true, it usually is…

Quoted from Dan Farrands (Cody posted this over on the F13 Community forum)

“We did find several lost scenes from Part 7 that didn’t make it on the original box set. They are mostly “character moments” involving Lar Park Lincoln and Kevin Blair, as well as an extended scene with Billy Butler and his date on their way to the “birthday bash.” These are definitely included in the new Deluxe Edition.

We also found a few outtakes of Kane rising from the lake and a better-quality version of Melissa’s “ax to the head” death scene.

Unfortunately most of the trims from Part 7 were destroyed in 1991. Believe me, we would have killed ourselves to create the ultimate/uncut version of 7. But what we did find will hopefully give fans a chance to see (albeit not the best quality) some of that holy grail material, and we were grateful to John Buechler and Fred Mollin for providing us with the early work tapes that they (thankfully) kept safe all these years. Had it not been for that material, the Part 7 disc would have been sorely lacking.”

  26. These are due out on June 16th right?

  27. Yep, 4-6 are due on the 16th.

  28. the trims were destroyed? so they kept footage of more crappy acting, but actually destroyed special effects footage that cost the bulk of the budget for the movie?

i’ve read several interviews from buechler in the late nineties saying the trims were in their vaults and they wouldn’t allow him to do anything with them. but he may have not known they were destroyed.

…so somebody deliberately got them out and destroyed them? …and left behind footage that is worthless in comparison? that’s just fucked up. i wouldn’t be surprised if the religuous zealots at paramount did it to punish us…kind of like bombing abortion clinics.

it kind of forces pt 7 to go down as a mediocre jason movie, when it originally was one of the best. but i’m sure that’s the intention in actually destroying film rather than leaving it in a vault where it would have literally no impact on storage space. …fucked up.

  29. I don’t think it was intentionally destroyed. I remember hearing a few years ago that some of Paramount’s film footage was lost due a warehouse fire or something.

  30. Full article:

And yes, the trims were destroyed thanks to an executive order back in 91.

  31. Well, then, that just sucks.

  32. Like many of you, I have been a true, dedicated fan of these films ever since I saw “Friday The 13th” in the theatre back in 1980.
While part three is my favorite, I enjoy all the films, and would love to see Paramount go back through the vaults, and review any and all of any footage that was cut, and release it.
We all keep reading interviews from actors, directors, and writers making the comment that extra footage was filmed, but was deleted because it would make the movie too long, was extra footage, or was chopped by the MPAA.

I was at a horror convention, and met Kimberly Beck (The Final Chapter), and she says there were scenes filmed of her, and Joan Freeman (Mrs. Jarvis) that never made it on film.
Could this be the drowing of the mother in the bathtub scene we have been reading about?

  33. What’s w/ the Meeting Mr. Vorhees feature on pt.6? Is that about the Elias Vorhees scene that was originally scripted then cut (but made the novelization book that I have)? I know it was never filmed so I wondering if they are going into a detailed discussion about it or is it just some kind of special feature about Jason?

  34. Chris,

The bathtub scene is on the new TFC DVD. According to the folks working on these SE DVDs, the footage trimmed for MPAA cuts no longer exists in most cases, so I wouldn’t hold my breath on ever seeing any of it.

    Pete,

The part 6 scene with Jason’s Father was never filmed, so they had storyboards created for it specifically for the Jason Lives SE DVD.

  35. i do believe im most looking forward to watching part 5… took a half day off work tuesday and all day wednesday so i can watch all the new releases coming out on the 16th… cant wait

  36. Are they going to release deluxe editions of VII and VIII? Which would be New Blood? and Jason Takes Manhatten, because it seems like all are being released but those.

  37. Are they going to release a deluxe edition of New Blood and Jason Takes Manhattan?

  38. “Ken Tarallo said on frightstuff that he was going to be on these dvd’s. Ken said that he didn’t have time for His Name Was Jason, but Daniel Farrands included him on these dvd’s. I can’t wait to see the creator of the mask finally get some credit for his work.

    TES”

Ken Tarallo is no where on these DVD’s. Tarallo is a lying blowhard dude. He had nothing to do with Friday the 13th. Doug White created the mask, and that’s well documented.

“Are they going to release a deluxe edition of New Blood and Jason Takes Manhattan?”

Yup, and by the end of the year there’s supposed to be a new DVD/Blu ray boxed set.
