Jason has worn many different masks. It started with the Sack in 1981 and then the original clean mask with red chevrons in 1982 where it then incurred an axe mark to the top left. The mask was worn by an imposter with blue Chevrons in 1985, then an undead Jason reaquired the mask in 1986 to then receive a a bullet hole and mask shaving by boat propellar. Jason had his mask split in half by telekenisis in 1988 then got a new yellowish mask for a Manhattan trip in 1989. After his mask was burned away on his trip, he returned to Crystall Lake where he gained a new mask. Curiously, it contained all of the damage from past masks, but also with the right side of the mask ripped away by the eye. Then Jason was reborn from hell to face Freddy with a new mask, except Freddy left his famous razor marks behind. Then Jason went to Space with a new look hock not like the others and after being blown to bits he got an uber shiny metal mask. Finally, this year it all came full circle. The sack was back and better than ever. Most importantly to fans, the original hockey mask was back for it to start all over again.

Friday the 13th (1980) Press Book

I really love press books from the franchise. The book for the original is great, not just for looking at the different size ads, but for the actor mini-biographies that are printed inside. I think it’s fun to read what these actors and actresses were involved in before performing in Friday the 13th. I like Kevin Bacons bio, which included his filmography to that point; Animal House, Captain Avenger and The Career Game.

The other fun part of the book, at least for me, is the different sized marketing ads that could be used for newspaper or magazine promotion. It’’s always a fun time looking at these old pieces of memoribilia and in some respects informative.

Bracket Challenge Round 2: Police Officer vs Sheriff of Jason

Now we will we will see a true test of fan loyalty. The trend has been mostly characters from the original 4 movies progressing to the later rounds, however, I think Sheriff Garris has a solid following and is one of the better characters in the series. Everyone loves Officer Dorf, but who really would stand a better chance against Jason, Officer Dorf or Sheriff Garris?

Sheriff Garris (Jason Lives)
He wants everyone to forget that he lives in Crystal Lake. It was all Tommy Jarvis’s fault that Forest Green turned red. Jason really screwed with that poor son of a bitches’s mind. That being said, Garris wants to take Officer Dorf down. Hit the noise and the cherries!

Officer Dorf (Friday the 13th 1980)
Dorf is looking for somone, a guy named Ralph. Everytime that loony gets drunk he gets his calling and then he spends a week in jail. Will officer Dorf get a chance to catch up with Ralph soon?

Friday the 13th: The Musical, Running This Weekend

The Dog Story Theater is running a musical of the original Friday the 13th. Now I know there are going to be a good number of you that will shake your head at this news, but I think that any group that uses it’s time and money to produce a musical about Friday the 13th should be recognized.

Actor Spotlight: Martin Cummins (”Wayne”, Jason Takes Manhattan)

Martin is most known by horror genre fans as Wayne in Jason Takes Manhattan. Most fans don’t know that he is a very accomplished actor that has starred in numerous other movies and television shows. One of his most notable roles was Nick Boyle in the MGM series Poltergeist: The Legacy. Most of Martin’s roles originate in Canada as that is where he lives today.

Martin was born in British Columbia, Canada. He attended the Vancouver Actors Studio where he trained under Mel Tuck, a highly respected pioneer of Canadian theater. He is greatly involved in the local actors organizations.

Martin also wrote his semi-autobiographical film, We All Fall Down. He also produced and directed the independent film, and it was nominated for 3 Leo Awards. Most recently he appeared in one episode of the 2009 ABC series “Defying Gravity” as Dr Eric Sanderson. Martin continues to act in Canada. Bracket Challenge Round 2: Paintballer vs Coroner

I am more than a little curious to see how this matchup turns out. I have a pretty good idea where this is going to end up, but I might be surprised. Roy was a very popular pick when he was voted to the second round, but I wonder how he will stack up against a fan favorite and Police Academy alumn in Axel.

Axel (The Final Chapter)
The other coroners did not stand a chance against the superbowl of self abuse. Axel loves Christmas references and finding unique ways to examine cute girls on the slab. He has never matched wits against the likes of Roy, however. Do you think he could be so thoughtful to break a branch off of a tree and try reattaching it?

Roy (Jason Lives)
He was the last surviving paintballer. If only Roy would have stayed lost, he may have survived. He did have the quick reflexes to shoot Jason when he felt threatened. And, Roy is the first person to shoot Jason red, so that has to count for something.

I must admit that I do not follow the NHL a whole lot and don’t know who Jason Bacashihua is, but his choice in masks is awesome. While checking out the Sports Illustrated article on Scary Goalie Masks, I found his hockey masks. I would absolutely love to own one of these masks and get them signed by the men who played Jason, especially the mask on the right!

Friday Conversation: Which Characters Should Survive?

Everyone has their favorite character in the franchise that you wish had been left alive. I personally think that Rob in The Final Chapter should have survived, but his death scene was powerful and actually enhanced the movie. Another character I think should have survived was Crazy Ralph. I don’t know why they killed him off. What a waste of an established character.

There is a long list of these people in the franchise. Let us know who you would have like to have seen continue on to the end of their movie and possibly in future installments of the franchise.

Jason X German Video Store Standee

Mario was nice enough to send me some photos of a Jason X standee he acquired a few years back from a local video store. I am impressed at the size of the standee, it coming from a video store and all. I would think it came from a theater lobby. Very cool! Thanks, Mario.

Bracket Challenge Round 2: The Final Guy vs Biker of Higgens Haven

VOTING CLOSED

For some, Ali is a relative unknown character that shows up for a few minutes in the movie and gets killed by Jason in a few short seconds, twice. However, his character broke the mold of the original four movies in the series as the only African American male character to be created for use in a Friday the 13th. He does save Chris at the end of Part 3 which sets up the trademark axe to the head shot that Chris delivers.

Clay serves a different distinction to the franchise as a genuine character that is believable and does not come across as stereotypical or comical as some leading men have in past installments of the franchise, which is why he was voted through to the second round. Who deserves to move on to the 3rd round?

Clay (Friday the 13th 2009)
His love for his sister is his drive and motivation. Nothing will stop him from finding his sister. Although he really was no match for Jason, physically, he gave it his all and in the end helped stop Jason in his tracks. If only temporarily.

Ali (Part 3)
Even after getting chopped in the head a few times by Jason… and dealing with Fox and Loco on a daily basis, he still gets back up and confronts Jason one final time. He may have lost his arm, but he gained a special place in Chris’s heart for saving her.
