Friday Conversation: Your Favorite Stalk and Slash In The Series

One of the things the franchise is built on is the ability to effectively portray the tension and dread necessary to suck the audience into a good stalk and slash scene. There have been numerous scenes that have delighted the fans all over the world. There are however, those few scenes that always stand out and set themselves above the rest. I have my personal few that I like and feel really represent what it is to watch a movie called Friday the 13th.

Jason Goes To Hell

Adam Marcus and Dean Lorey said that they wanted to create the ultimate Jason stalk and slash scene for this movie and they really did a great job of pulling all of the essential elements together to give the fans the best opening scene in the franchise.

Jason Lives

I remember watching this movie for the first time in a hotel room on Cinemax. It was right before The New Blood was released, which I did see in the theater, and I caught this scene right as I sat down. This probably had me looking behind me and out the windows for months. A very creepy scene and still creepy today!

The New Blood

I know what you’re thinking. Are you serious? The New Blood? Yes, there were not a lot of scary moments, but there are a ton of awesome kills and in particular, one very tense scene that is still very effective today. I think it’s the fact that you know Jason is fully aware of this girl on the other side of the wall. You see her frozen with fright as Jason creeps ever so closey towards her. Great Scene!

Part 3

Many fans hail this scene as the ultimate stalk and slash scene and I think I have to agree. The Filmmakers could have made a whole seperate movie out of Jason chasing Chris around Higgens’s Haven. I think the segment lasts almost 15 minutes, maybe more. I could be wrong as I didn’t time it. That being said, everything is included in this extended stalk scene that there probably will never be a movie to rival it.

So what do you think the best stalk and slash scene of the series is? Could it be one of the scenes I mentioned above or do you have your own personal favorite Jason killing scene?

  1. That scene from part 3 was the first one that came to mind. I agree 100%.

  2. One that comes to mind is the probably the most simplest one of all. It’s in part 2, and just after all the kids go out for a night on the town…we see Jason’s shadow inch past the front-side of the clue house as he stalks past the porch. It even has the eerie violen music droning in the background. ( I know there’s no “slash” involved, but it’s still cool.

To save my ass though I’ll give a nod to a stalk/slash scene while I’m here: Part 3: When Harolds wife yells “Goddammit Harold!” we see Jason sneak behind the sheet before he offs them both.

  3. *** I meant B…not clue***

oh and jasonfury, I’m really in the middle of a LOT of work with commissioned requests, and slushing mold castings…Thank you much, but I’ll have to pass on the entry of the fan-made posters…I’ll just email you one sometime for the helluva it though! Thanks again…

Oh and another stalk/slash scene: PArt 4: Jason cut’s the film strip on the projector, while he walks back around Teddy and nails him through the vinyl screen…intense

  4. I guess I have to mention part 4 from the moment Jason bursts through the window and grabs Tommy to the moment the mask hits the floor..

  5. I love that scene from Jason Lives! One of my favorites when she is walking out of the cabin and following her step by step

  6. That list covers all my faves! Part 3 has the longest and best chase, with part 6 definately the creepiest, part 7 with the most emminent doom, and JGTH the best opening. Stalk and slash make the movie and for me are more enjoyable than the quick kill. Although the Best Quick Kill could be another topic for conversation :)

  7. I definitely agree that Part 3 had the ultimate stalk and slash sequence of all the movies. Off the top of my head it does seem the longest to me, and you gotta remember that Kris had already escaped from Jason once before so not only is she reliving this awful event but now it’s happening amongst the bodies of her dead friends.

I always love to look back on Jason’s squeezing out Rick’s eye & then watching his body slump down and you then realize … there is only one person left alive, and the series’ best stalk and slash sequence commences !

  8. I was a fan of the opening chase scenes in the remake. I thought that was pretty intense and entertaining.

  9. Yay! JGTH!!!

I know its not a stalk and slash scene, but I love ralphs opening to part 7.

That JGTH opening is so good. Its hard to remember, but at the time, its was like finally getting Jason back, with all the great stuff packed into the first couple minutes.

    Great stuff.

  10. Although all the above are great (don’t really remember JGTH), and this didn’t end up a ’slash’ scene;

…the one that does it for me is Jason chasing Trish up the stairs and her being trapped on the landing – the look on her face of utter desperation and horror was so damn effective.

The jump out the window was the perfect way to to escape.

Now if I could only watch that scene in high-def.

    …”you were supposed to leave…”

  11. I guess my favorite would be the Tina chase from the “Final Chapter”. It’s not because that is my favorite film of the series and though its not a “stalk and slash” since she survives (though someone got slashed lol), It still gave me the cold chills when I was younger watching that scene because he is “so close” up on Tina on those stairs that inside I was screaming . RUN B*TCH!.

It was like they let him get so close but just out of reach so you was just expecting a grab at any moment. The odd part is I watch that movie still after all these years and though I know she gets away, I still get that odd feeling that he is going to grab her up.

Though most Friday movies feature this effect where the girl takes way to long to move, this whole scene just had a lot of close calls. I mean watching her take all that time to break out the window in the kitchen and when she and Tommy are on the stairs and have to step over him.. whoa.. it doesn’t get any better than that.

  12. My favorite stalk scene is from Part 7. When David the stoner makes His way into the kitchen, if You look at the left corner when the lighting hits for a moment, You see Jason just standing there being very still. Its only for half a second, but it creeped Me the hell out. And I didnt notice for years watching the old VHS copy I had, until I was watching with a friend and He pointed it out. Sometimes when its right in front of You, You just dont see it.

  13. The end of part 3 was my first experience with a Friday the 13th movie (or slasher film) and I agree it’s the greatest thing ever. The end of part 4 has some good moment too, but goes a little too quickly as there were less places for Trish to go.

  14. wow, this is a tough one. but i would have to say part 3 for its pure energy and part 4 for its general creepiness. when you have jason from 3 chasing and searching and well, hunting for chris, its great and has a great feel to it, but with 4 its just full out, im gonna get you cause your in my sights. also with 4, there are some great scenes that are involved with the whole chase sequence.

first being, when he crashes thru the door and throws the hammer and then the way he starts after them.

second, when he has the choice, kill the boy or the girl at the top of the jarvis house stairs.

third, after chasing trish to the neighbors house, the way he stands in the doorway and blocking it and filling the frame.

fourth, again, standing at the top of the stairs blocking the only way down.

and finally the way he creeps up to the door when she has her back to the door calling out to tommy. in mho, the greatest scene in all the friday series.

Great friday topic Jasonsfury, one of the better ones that i have really enjoyed! really gets you thinking about the movies!

  15. I agree too with Chris in Part 3 as being one of the best. Another that I liked from the same movie was Andy. He kinda sat against the wall in the hallway and waited for him to come back around to nail him. Cort and Nikki in Part 6 was fun too.

  16. part 3-one that stands out 4 me was jason walking quickly down the hall to the closet chris is hiding in. 3D in the theatre there were scenes like that that stood out, that the blue/red 3d just can’t match.

  17. I don’t usually chime in, but I feel like I have to represent my favorite entry in the series. Do people completely forget about part 2? I consider the final sequence to not only be the best chase scene in Friday the 13th, but in the horror genre itself. It is bold to say, I know, but the final half hour is so well done. It is an incredibly tense sequence. They come back from the bar, Jason is waiting. Jason attacks, Ginny gets away. Paul is assumed dead. Ginny tries the cars, Jason almost gets her. Jason, stalks Ginny through the woods, leaping out at her and continuing the pursuit into different cabins. They end up at the shack, Paul is not dead, he is then probably dead, etc.

The final ten minutes are the most original in the series. Ginny dons the crusty sweater and uses child psychology on the child trapped in a man’s body, Jason. Where else in the series past part 2 do you have that clever of a plot device?
And In Part 3, yes there is that added dimension that Chris is reliving her traumatic experience, but Part 2 has that wonderful realization on Ginny’s part that the story she heard at the bar is completely true and Jason is after her.
But there are several things that make this such an effective scene (aside from the steadily rising tension).
    1) Manfredini’s score. It fits so well. Especially in the shack. There’s that Frankensteinish, evil laboratory whirring synth effect throughout Ginny’s attempt to confuse Jason, for example.
    2) You can see Jason in the background several times pursuing Ginny. He is an animal on the hunt, and when you are able to comprehend just how close he is in these shots, it is terrifying (Part 3 does this sparingly, but not to the same effect).
    3) Whether or not this is intentional, Jason’s pursuit through the woods seems like it lasts for HOURS. I absolutely love it. The reason? They do those drawn out dissolve-type transitions while hes stalking her. They show a shot of the moon. They show Ginny running through a nightmare. They show the monster, Jason endlessly after her.
    4) It is the most realistic. Jason gets knocked around more than Ginny does. Pushed down a few times, kicked in the balls, Chainsawed, and Machete’d through the shoulder (the eyeball rolling back is a wonderful touch).
    5) Jason is scary. He is human. He runs. He is monstrous and demented. His face is grotesque.

    love this movie.

  18. I agree the chase in part 2 is the best of the whole series.Part 2 is the best of all teh films.

  19. Nice topic! I just watched Part III again last night and realized what a great scene Chili had towards the end. From when she realizes that Shelley is actually dead to running up the stairs and discovering Andy and Debbie dead. Imagine how scary that must be, especially when you’re stoned!

I always felt bad for her (not just because she only got a total of 4 minutes screen time) because the hot fire poker must have hurt SO badly!

  20. I have to give it up to part one. Sure Jason wasnt’ the killer, but this was the first and seeing this movie the first time not knowing who the killer is much scarier then knowing.

  21. i’m going to go with Annie’s death scene from part one. Jeeps still scare me to this day

  22. Part 6, The scene where Jason is stalking Paula. I love that scene. It will always be my favorite Friday the 13th film

  23. For me it has to be the end chase scenes of the first 4. Great times!!

  24. Jason Goes To Hell was the best scene!
