I've noticed that most of the 1.85 widescreen DVDs' of old horror movies like Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm st, Evil Dead, The Howling etc.., are just being cropped from the old fullscreen prints. I don't know about anybody else, but I think that's fucked up. The whole point of widescreen, the whole sales pitch was that we were getting more of the picture, not less.
