Yeah, I think chronologically, it’s the events of Jason Goes to Hell, then Freddy vs. Jason, then Jason X. Although I don’t reeaaallly dislike any of them, Freddy vs. Jason is probably my favorite of the lot.

Never did know what to do with the franchise or Jason.

*giggles self silly at the Disney dance and “great ’till Jason was blown up and sucked ’till he came back”*

I can enjoy Jason Goes to Hell on some level, but I admit it really frustrates me. It has one of the more interesting human casts. It has one of the most cohesive plots. It even has some small but telling touches I really love (such as the Voorhees house having such a huge playground; in a Friday movie, that would’ve been an excellent way of hinting at just how indulgant Pamela was). Scenes such as Randy and Steven fighting are sheer genius. I even like the soundtrack.

However, the one thing it got wrong is the one thing a Friday the 13th movie simply *cannot afford* to get wrong: Jason Voorhees. Jason spends the entire movie trying to murder his niece when his never murdering children is one of the few things the varying writers who’ve worked on him agree on (guys, that’s Michael Myers). There’s too much mysticism and magic; yes, Jason is supernatural, but subtly. The ancient blood rituals and magical daggers just came out of nowhere (guys, that’s Pinhead). He even talks, for crying out loud (guys, that’s Freddy Kru- *headslapped*).

So while I can watch and like it, I always wind up sadly wondering how much better it would have been if Jason hadn’t been so (figuratively and literally) out of character. ;_;
