However, sometimes there is a pairing that is so awesome, it must be written about. Such is the case with the television show, ‘The Powers of Matthew Star’. The show starred two Friday the 13th film stars, Amy Steel (Ginny, Friday the 13th Part 2) and Peter Barton (Doug, Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter).

Synopsis
Matthew Star was a prince on the planet Quadris, who was forced to flee to Earth when his planet’s government was overthrown by despots. On Earth, he took the form of an ordinary high-school student (albeit one with superpowers), and was accompanied by his guardian Walt, who became the school’s science teacher. The American government knew of Matthew and Walt’s origin, and used them to act as agents on occasion

Does anyone remember this show? It took a moment for us to think of what this show was all about. The photo posted below is courtesy of Amy Steel’s Facebook Page.

Franchise Crossover: Spend Friday the 13th In House http://fridaythe13thfilms.com/blog/franchise-crossover-spend-friday-the-13th-in-house/ http://fridaythe13thfilms.com/blog/franchise-crossover-spend-friday-the-13th-in-house/#comments Tue, 16 Mar 2024 03:51:07 +0000 jasonsfury http://fridaythe13thfilms.com/blog/?p=8587 house_title
One of my all time favorite horror movies growing up and the victim of many, many multiple viewings is the 1986 classic House. I could not get enough of the silly characters, supernatural elements and akwardly tense moments that were all thrown together into one of the most entertaining movies I have ever seen. In a way, it reminds me of Evil Dead in tone and is a pleasure to watch even now. William Kat, to me, was absolutely perfect in this film and wish he would have done more in this genre, just not House 4.

Back in the 80’s when I first watched this movie, I never knew that so many people from the Friday the 13th franchise were involved in making this movie. One major player in the franchise would not even be a part of the Friday series until after House was released in theaters. If you do not know about everyone that was involved in making this movie, then you are in for a treat.

House was produced by Friday the 13th 1980 director Sean Cunningham and directed by Friday the 13th Part 2 and Part 3 director Steve Miner. Harry Manfredini also joins his Friday buds to help score House. His music is easily recognizable and has a distinct blend of his older music from Friday the 13th with a pinch of Swamp Thing and the beginnings of his more recent synthesizer heavy scores that we have come accustomed to in Jason Goes To Hell and Jason X.

There are a number of actors that make appearances in House. Two actors that were in previous Friday the 13th movies and one that would appear much later in the series. In House, Steve Susskind (Harold Part 3) plays Frank McGraw, William Kats’ agent/publicist. Ron Carroll (Sgt. Tierny, Friday the 13th 1980) plays a Policeman/Detective. Finally, in a very small role, Steven Williams (Creighton Duke Jason Goes To Hell) plays a policeman that is called to, what else, the House.

The last two crew members, for me, are the most intriguing of the entire crew. Dan Bradley performed stunts for the movie and took direction from the film’s Stunt Coordinator, Kane Hodder. Dan Bradley would play Jason in the paintball scene in Jason Lives the same year that House was released in theaters. Kane Hodder, of course would go on to play Jason two years after House in Friday the 13th Part 7: The New Blood.

I don’t think there is another movie made that contains so many Friday the 13th alumn on one crew. So, if you have never seen House or have not viewed the movie in a long time, I would log into NetFlix or Blockbuster and revisit a true horror classic.

Franchise Crossover, Video Games: Urban Chaos http://fridaythe13thfilms.com/blog/franchise-crossover-video-games-urban-chaos/ http://fridaythe13thfilms.com/blog/franchise-crossover-video-games-urban-chaos/#comments Tue, 23 Feb 2024 14:56:23 +0000 jasonsfury http://fridaythe13thfilms.com/blog/?p=8054 urbanchaos3
Previously, we have been highlighting other horror movies with Friday the 13th alumn in the 1980’s and we will continue to do so in the future. However, there are a lot of other media where the franchise has crossed over to. Video games, since the original NES, have highlighted Jason’s trademark hockey mask in one form or another and we will cover a number of those over time. Today we are going to look at an original Xbox game called Urban Chaos: Riot Response.

This game was released on the “13th” of June in 2024. I thought the 13th was a nice touch. Coincidence? In the game, the protagonists wear hockey masks and one of the masks is clearly modeled after Jason’s trademark hockey mask. The game itself was not groundbreaking, but a fun FPS that I remember playing a few times at a friend’s house. I’m not an Xbox guy, more of a PS player myself. Check out the pics and see what Jason could look like up close and personal if this century brings us a Friday the 13th video game.

Franchise Crossover: Slumber Party on Friday the 13th Massacre 2 http://fridaythe13thfilms.com/blog/franchise-crossover-slumber-party-on-friday-the-13th-massacre-2/ http://fridaythe13thfilms.com/blog/franchise-crossover-slumber-party-on-friday-the-13th-massacre-2/#comments Wed, 03 Feb 2024 18:17:19 +0000 jasonsfury http://fridaythe13thfilms.com/blog/?p=7378 Our next installment in our Franchise Crossover series brings a smile to my face. And it’s not because of what the ladies let you see in the movie, but rather reminds of a time when a group of friends and I rode our bike to the video store and the owner actually let us rent Slumber Party Massacre 2. We were shocked and took it back to a friends house as the parents were gone, of course. We went on to watch one of the worst movies ever.

At the time it was great for a bunch of kids to watch, but man, watching it as an adult you just have to turn it off after 20 minutes or so. Anyways, I think debating the movie can be something to talk about at www.retroslashers.net.

For our purposes, today, we highlight two Friday alumn that star in this film and they are Juliette Cummins (Robin,  A New Beginning) and Heidi Kozak (Sandra, The New Blood). These two have a ton of significant screen time together and yes, nudity ensues. Too bad all of the festivities were brought to a hault by that rock n’ roll playin’, drillin’ killin’, supernatural entity with a sense of humor.

Franchise Crossover: Return of the Friday the 13th Dead http://fridaythe13thfilms.com/blog/franchise-crossover-return-of-the-friday-the-13th-dead/ http://fridaythe13thfilms.com/blog/franchise-crossover-return-of-the-friday-the-13th-dead/#comments Mon, 25 Jan 2024 04:24:51 +0000 jasonsfury http://fridaythe13thfilms.com/blog/?p=6815 Our next installment in our Franchise Crossover series, we feature quite possbily the greatest zombie movie ever made outside of the original Night of The Living Dead, Return of the Living Dead (1985). Three Friday the 13th alumn appear in this film and each actor gives memorable performances that match or better their role in each of their respective Friday the 13th roles.

Friday the 13th alumns in this film include Mark Venturini (A New Beginning), Miguel A. Núñez Jr. (A New Beginning), and Tom Mathews (Jason Lives)

Franchise Crossover: Once Bitten On Friday The 13th http://fridaythe13thfilms.com/blog/once-bitten-on-friday-the-13th/ http://fridaythe13thfilms.com/blog/once-bitten-on-friday-the-13th/#comments Tue, 29 Dec 2024 06:25:33 +0000 jasonsfury http://fridaythe13thfilms.com/blog/?p=6070 Back in the 1985, the horror genre was in full swing and many actors were quite interchangable between movies in the horror genre as they had experience in the movies and were easily recognizable to producers. When Once Bitten came along, a very young and unknown Jim Carrey was cast to star in a horror comedy that hinted at the wonders of sex and their consequences, um without protection.

Since Friday the 13th was a genre film and was viewed by it’s actors as a launching pad to a career in Hollywood, it came as no surprise that you would start to see stars from the franchise appear in newer movies throughout the decade of the 80’s. If you watch this movie closely their a number of Friday the 13th alumn scattered about the movie.

Alumn in the film include Dominick Brascia (A New Beginning), Carey More (The Final Chapter) and Stu Charno (Part 2). They all have pretty funny scenes and have smaller parts, but there are not many movies that have this many Friday the 13th actors collected within one motion picture!
