If you have ever heard Sean Cunningham talk about this movie he states how Jason was just a small back story to explain why his mom was killing everyone. Though he becomes the main icon of the series later, truly they never put much emphasis on him when writing this one. It was mostly about the kills and suspense more than for the story.
