There are two masks seen onscreen in part 3– one we commonly call the “hero” is seen through most of the film, the other “stunt” mask seen during the axe chop at the end and in the scene where he picks up Chili, was the mask later used during all of part 4, and some of the hallucination scenes in part 5. The original “hero” mask, which had somewhat smaller eye cuts, was the mask that ended up with Marty Becker and was later thrown out. The “stunt” mask was given to Dick Warlock by the FX team on part 5.

So the part 4 mask was not made brand new for the film, it was an old part 3 mask that already had the axe cut in, and Tom Savini got ahold of, beat and weathered, etc.

The part 4 mask, used during part 5, was the only hock that appears in part 5 that was not made for the film. Some people say that they were recasted from the part 4 mask, I’ve never heard a reliable source on that, so I’m not sure.

And yes, Dick Warlock is a cool guy, every time I do one of these I email him the photos, lol.

Sadly, the same Part 3 people made the Part 4 hocks because they wanted to use the same mold for them, and I believe Part V was made fresh with the David Miller special FX team. So hope that helps. So that would mean that Mr. Warlock would have an original Part V screen-used hock only. And NOT a Parts 3 & IV as well. Just wanted to clear that one up a bit.
