Hmmm.....John Carpenter is up there in the top, but I'm also going to have to include Wes Craven, Tobe Hooper,George Romero, and I will say Stephen King because I'm a big fan of his and I've heard some even call him 'The Master of Horror'.

If we're talking character, it has and always will be Jason Voorhees. Writer-wise I'll have to be predictable and say Stephen King, mostly because I'm not familiar with any author who has contributed anywhere near as much as he has. Maybe that's because no one has?
