Lawrence C's review

All Friday the 13th Movies have had that special something that made them stick out over all other slasher films, and Jason X is no exception. This movie is different from all other sequels in the series because it takes place in a futuristic environment. The most notable difference is that it takes place over 400 years in the future where there are new futuristic weapons, there is no Earth, and technology has advanced enough that any wound can be healed through a Regeneration Process. After a big twist in the beginning of the film, Jason is cryogenically frozen because he cannot be killed. After he is discovered 400 years later, he comes back to life and the killing begins!

The death scenes in the movie are top notch, meaning they are unique, surprising, and gory. The special effects are excellent as well but they did not look finished in some of the scenes, such as the Regenerating Process, and a few of the explosion scenes. The sound and music fit the movie perfectly and compliments the previous films as well. The story and pace of the movie are great and the story does not lag in any particular area, the only complaint I have is how Jason X did not transcend from the previous film and leaves you wondering how he ended up in the Crystal Lake Research facility.

The other problem with this film is the "Cornyness" between the characters. At certain points of the movie when they should be frightened, they are instead sarcastic and funny; this is annoying and reduces the overall effect of the movie. This leaves you wondering why they are not taking things seriously. Some of the characters at times, make overly stupid decisions, or seem to wait until the last minute to do something. This reduces the suspense and makes the movie less believable, and instead turns it into something more comical and goofy. I did not like this change and hope New Line Cinema will change this before the movie is released to the public. I was also not satisfied with the ending of the movie. It seems too fantastic to believe! I will not spoil the ending but it gives you a feeling that everything is too exaggerated to believe much like Batman parts 3, and 4.

In conclusion I would like to say that despite the film's flaws, it is still excellent and very enjoyable. I have been a fan of the series for many years and enjoyed watching the latest chapter of the series. It contains extreme gore (which I love), a good story, and makes references to the past Jason films as well. All this combined with new twists, and surprises make Jason X a welcome addition to the series.

I give the screening for Jason-X 7 out of 10 points. I deducted points for Cornyness, Exaggeration, and the Ending
