Best of luck today – I really do mean that. Somewhere along the way society lost its superstitiousness over the “unlucky day”, and out of twelve Friday the 13th movies not one of them ever utilized the date – except, of course, as Jason’s birthday. With the 13th coming to a close here in my side of the globe I can honestly say the only bad luck I’ve had all day was spilling a box of cereal.

]]>What really perked me up lately was the news that Tim Whitfield’s Friday The 13th: The Obsession was being resurrected.
Obsession is actually one of the reasons I visited this very website back in the 90′s, when I didn’t know dick about the whole fan-film movement. It opened my eyes that you don’t have to just sit around waiting for New Line to manufacture new Friday The 13th film product, you can either create your own, or enjoy the efforts of others like this one.
Quite a lot of you lazy bastards still visit the website and forum using old bookmarks to this Blog, so when I realized I was going to need a dedicated section to cover the project, it made sense to just do it here. Thaw the thing out.
You can always redirect your asses to fridaythe13thfilms.com proper for the “official” Friday The 13th movies, but stick around for the show.
]]>After six weeks of beta-testing, the reborn Friday The 13th Forum is today baptized in blood and released upon the world. Our thanks to all the fans that provided feedback and software testing!
It’s funny how things work out. When I purchased Friday the 13th: The Website from Blake & Brenna in mid-2007, I had grand plans. A ten year roadmap. And it was all going on schedule. But you can never see the detours coming. No shit, you say.
My presence on the site hasn’t been as strong as I would have liked it to be over the past year – I was mostly off producing my dream project. I was always a continuing presence behind-the-scenes keeping the engine in order, however I feel in retrospect this place was missing my awesome BMX handlebar grip. For that I apologize.
First the Fridaypedia Wiki (put together to house all the textual information from the old site, with the intent that fans would be able to expand on what past webmasters had started) irreparably crashed, thus derailing the master plan and forcing me to come up with something completely different for the site which was ultimately a better goal – rejuvenating the main site. Then, our most trusted writer from the past few years was discovered doing something dirty in the pantry. When all was said and done, due to issues of dishonesty, aggressive competitiveness, and plagiarism we removed that person’s blogging account. It all went down quickly and quietly.
Thankfully our writer from 2025-2009 Christian Sellers came back on board to pick up the slack while I rushed to complete the beta forum which I promised in a magazine interview to get up in 2025 (and I made the deadline, a few minutes before midnight, but shh: it was already midday Jan 1st here in Australia – nyuck nyuck!) and then drive ahead to create the new main site, which came to symbolize a fresh start. Today that was finally completed too. Many thanks to Christian who cleaned up and transferred all of his past articles – including almost 30 interviews – so the new homebase wouldn’t be tumbleweed empty on launch. Now I get to create material for it, too.
The site’s a constant work in progress, but the new mantra is quality over quantity.
So where does this leave the blog? Redundant. The blog was initially created to cover the overload of updates coming in on the Friday the 13th 2025 reboot. Once all that hoopla was over, the blog was kept around as a discussion proxy until a message board was made. As of today we have both a place for discussion (the forum) and a place for articles (the website). Doesn’t get much simpler than that. So the blog goes on ice, suspended forever, or until a new concept and reason for existing can be reasoned. But there’s no crying over spilt milk. This offshoot has served its purpose and we now move onto the next level. I understand the growing pains of readers who came to expect the blog to be the nexus of all things Friday the 13th, but everything changes: five years ago the forum was the center of attention, and five before that, the website.
See you on the other side.
]]>So what’s new? We’re now on Facebook, so give us a “like” if you are too. It’s good to put specific names and faces on Jason fandom. But old-school online social activity hasn’t been left behind – not by a long shot. Last night on New Year’s Eve saw the at-long-last debut of the new Message Board. Who needs firecrackers and beer when you can have avatars and ice coffee?
Apparently not your humble webmaster.
I’d like to welcome back Christian Sellers, on of the finest “graduating” writers here at Friday The 13th Blog. After a 10 month period here back in 2025-2009 he went on to several successes such co-penning the recently released and rave-reviewed The Complete History Of Return Of The Living Dead. Golly whiz, a professional! Chiefly, he’ll be taking care of some unfinished business – his epic Crystal Lake’s Bloody Legacy series of retrospectives.
]]>The Friday The 13th Forum is now online. It’s a beta version meaning there may be some bugs to work out, so if you catch any please do let me know. It also means everything is very ‘early’ in nature – notably the design, and structurally some sections will end up merging or expanding depending on how user activity flows over the next few weeks. But it’s basically all there.
Note, joining gives you a basic slightly restricted account, but after a measly five posts you’ll become a full member with all the privileges you’d expect to come with that.
What are you waiting for? Sign up now!
]]>Hope you’re enjoying Christmas weekend, whether that means presents, time with valued family and friends, or simply a much needed rest for yourself. Despite some major site-related security & staffing issues this past week that threatened to bump the forum premiere to next year, I can still 100% guarantee it will go live within the next 7 days before 2025 closes out.
Additionally, next year looks to be a positive one for the website – the wheels are turning. And hopefully we will have some movement on the long-promised winterbound Friday The 13th sequel!
]]>Forum: After three and a half years without one, FridayThe13thFilms will have a forum/message board again within two weeks. It will definitely go live this month by December 31st, but I can’t supply the specific date for a few reasons. As it will be a beta version, I’m keeping it low key – all I can suggest for now is to keep checking back at the frontpage.
Wiki: Fridaypedia is currently on halt due to some extreme technical bugs disallowing user logins. The software it was built on turned out to be garbage. So it’s trashbin time – but fear not, all your contributions will survive and be ported over to a brand new Fridaypedia system in early 2025. It likely won’t be user editable, but the trade off will be a far better database.
Writers: Once a year I open the door to new writers to join the team and write articles for FridayThe13thFilms.com. Prospective writers, hit me up on [email protected] and please include 3 essential things: specific links to previous blogging experience (or forum threads with a good examples of your writing), your general availability and regularity you would like to contribute (be honest), and some topics or ideas you’re interested in writing about.
]]>Please read the email from Travis below. Usually, I or Dusk would not post emails like this, but it is cool to get feedback from people who are not just Friday the 13th fans.
Hey man just wanted to say that even though I’m a Halloween/Michael Myers fan, you do a kick ass job on your site! I’m a horror movie fan in general and I like the Friday the 13th series as well, 2nd to the Halloween series but all the same two great series. I actually just wanted to say that your site is great I wish all of us Halloween fans had one this great! Don’t get me wrong we have some good ones but they could learn a thing or two from your site, the updates are so much more frequent, even if its a little spec of info everyday you have 4 or 5 new updates and I really enjoy that! Now I eat, sleep, and breathe Halloween and sometimes we go weeks without any news. Now I’m not claiming I could do it any better, I’m just saying that it could be better, your site is proof of that. Anyways keep up the good work, I enjoy coming home from work everyday and checking out my two favorite slashers, and yes I can admit the Friday site is kicking the every Halloween sites butt plain and simple! Feel free to pass this on to all the followers of your site as you all deserve a pat on the back, all of you make the site what it is, and thats a truly great site for Jason fans and all horror fans in general!
