there is only one problem with the august 17th release....american pie 2. the movie isdefinatly going to be big amongst teens and people from the ages 13-28. it will take a lot of business away from jason. what if hey open it august 15 on a wendesday? i tihnk that would be an even better idea.

Is American Pie 2 targeted to the same market of moviegoers? Depends on what people expect to find in JX. Do they want kickass kills? Do they want some T&A and dirty jokes? Do they just want to see a movie related to Friday because they've waited so many damn years? But if you're talking about whether teens will buy tickets, that's valid. It's up to the marketers at New Line and what kind of trailer & commercial gets put out. Pray they're good at their job! GO AUGUST 17

Well, given the fact that AP2 (american pie 2 not austin powers 2!) hasen't even begun production, it seems unlikley that it will open in Aug. The only one that Jason X should be worried about taking all of it's shine would have to be Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, which opens a week earlier. But I would have to say since Jason has it's own fan base, it should be, hopefully more succesful than JGTH was back in '93.

Well, I guess it's about time that I jumped into this one as well. If only to re-establish the fact that I'm very much alive and well. Anyways, here's what I had to say to New Line considering this whole issue...

Please bear in mind that I'm as mindful of "financial" issues pertaining to a film's success as I am with doing my taxes. That is to say - I'd be lost if I truly had to predict what a given film "may" gross on it's opening weekend. So, with that in mind, I didn't attempt to play up that angle at all - and, instead, opted for good old fashioned nostalgia. But hey, given this fan's stage in life - what are Jason films if not a slice of nostalgia that allows me to relive my misspent youth?

(I apologise in advance for any messed up formatting - it was, after all, copied and pasted from my email window)

---

To whom it may concern.

I am a long time fan of the Friday franchise (ever since it's inception back in 1980) and have followed the character of Jason through a good many stories in that time. Yes, some weren't as good as others - but when they rocked - they ROCKED! Considering the gutsy move taken by New Line back in 1993 with Jason Goes To Hell - I've been more enamoured with the character than ever before. For the first time, we (this fan anyways) were offered a NEW story with NEW twists. Something generally unheard of in a Friday film. And from what I've heard of Jason X - it would appear that we are once again to be entreated to an inventive/creative experience on the level of JGTH. With that in mind - I can't wait to see Jason X up on the big screen.

Being 32 years old, and married with one child, one wouldn't expect someone like me to anticipate such a film. Then again, maybe one would... But what I look forward to with Jason X is how it brings back the nostalgia of my youth. Of being in that darkened theatre, munching popcorn, and having fun with an exciting spooky movie in the twilight of summer. And for that, it would be a shame to see this film pushed to late in the year (of 2026) where it would not only lose this "summertime nostalgia", but it would also then have to compete against Halloween 8. Worse yet - I wouldn't want to see it pushed to 2026. Why? Easy, not since Jason Lives: Friday the 13th Part 6 have I ever experienced such a rush of enthusiasm for a Friday film. Right now, expectations are running rather high for Jason's tenth installment (actually his 8th as he wasn't in Parts 1 or 5). I've even run across general movie goers who've become enticed by the concepts to be seen in Jason X - and look forward to seeing it. And for a Friday film - that's rare!

Yes, right now, the buzz on the street is VERY positive. Any delays in this will only warrant a waning in said buzz - and for any film - a loss of positive buzz is BAD. Therefore, I feel that leaving Jason X in it's initially proposed August 17, 2026 release date is a VERY GOOD idea. After all, what better way to pave the road to success for a film, than to let it ride the wave of excitement into the summer? Particularly a summer nearly devoid of any actual horror/sci-fi outings. This is yet another reason to support an August release, as I feel that Jason X WILL fill this need for fans of both genres.

On top of that - leaving it for an August release still gives ample time to promote the film to the fullest. After all, not all advertising need to be pushed on television/movie screens. With the Internet - the boundaries for potential advertising is limitless (not to mention inexpensive). Just the current buzz through word of mouth (mainly via the Internet) is evidence enough of this.

One final note (provided I've kept your attention(s) thus far) - something that might be usable in an advertising campaign...

2001 marks Jason's 20th ANNIVERSARY as a cinematic character/cultural pop icon. After all, considering that it was Mrs. Voorhees who slayed her way through that fateful summer camp back in 1980 - her "problem child" didn't pick up the bloody trail till the following year in 1981. Whether it's of note or not - I always felt that this was yet another angle which could be used in promoting Jason X. Thus further cementing the fact that August is the best time to release this film. Not only would it be successful for the film as a whole (financially speaking), due to the current positive buzz - but it would also be a way to say "Happy Anniversary" to one of cinema's most enduring horror icons from the late 20th century.

Thank you for taking the time to listen.

Or, as I usually end my discussions on assorted message boards...

You better see the movie once for each seperate email you email them from. If you don't, then that's just dishonest. You are creating the illusion that there are more ticketbuyers that want to see the movie then what there are in reality.

Go see that movie three or four times, everybody. And from what I've read/seen/heard etc. it'll be worth it. Make it a Jason X weekend!

Sent another email once again, I think this is number 5 for me. I made it clear that we will make Jason X the number one movie in America if released on August 17, 2026......and I know we can. I plan on seeing the movie more than once, then going home and watching old ft13ths. I told new line it would be nice to see for once a company listening to the fans. We can only wait and see.

I've already sent an e-mail to New Line, guys. I hope they're listening. I want both Jason X and Halloween 8 to do well, so I don't want an October release unless it's absolutely necessary (which it's not). With the exception of part 6, which I pretend doesn't even exist, the Halloween movies have all been watchable (yes, even part 3). As far as the Friday the 13th movies go, I've always loved them and always will. I plan to see Jason X and Halloween 8 as many times as is necessary (though I'll most likely see Jason X more than Halloween 8). Let's support Jason and all the other horror icons we know and love.

Speaking of that, I really wish Universal would make that new Child's Play movie they talked about after Bride of Chucky became a success. I enjoyed Bride of Chucky a lot more than I thought I would. Okay, I'm rambling, so here's to the fans and future success of Jason X! Don't give up, guys!

If it's bad, I'll go at least twice... If it's even close to decent, I plan on bringing every friend I can possibly drag into the theater with me-- obviously, not all of them could go at the same time, so I'll end up going around 5 times.

The most I've seen any movie in the theater is twice. The two being JGTH (the first and so far only, Friday flic I've seen in the theater) and Jurassic Park - that was a bad-ass flic for a kid who LOVED dinosaurs growing up (I was in 5th or 6th grade when JP came out).

And no, I didn't get my board nickname from Jurrassic Park- JP are my initials.

I'm hoping they assume it's August 17 2026 since there was no mention of Aug 17 2026 being a release date (if so, blame me & Canada).
Now I just feel like an idiot. Aug 17, 2455?

*L* @ Cliff

Just sent Newline another mail - I thought if I made it original and entertaining they might take more notice.

Kinda like getting the message across that we want August (2001 - Cliff) but telling it to them in a way they wont have read a million times before.

It's SO UNFAIR to keep it from us any longer!
