Jason Voorhees Homage In Scream 4?

scream_jasonAnyone who has watched Scream knows that the franchise was built on the notion of deconstructing the slasher sub-genre. In doing so, Kevin Williamson based his script for the original movie on mostly Halloween as well as Friday the 13th. With production for Scream 4 gearing up, our sister website, www.scream-trilogy.net, has been keeping up on all of the goings on for the new movie and today have posted a very intriguing story in relation to possible costumes that may be used for the killer.

In the story, it is mentioned that there might be different variations of the Ghostface mask being used within the film, with possible homages to Rob Zombie’s Halloween as well as Jason Voorhees. It is all speculation now, but check out the new “Scarecrow” Ghostface mask that has been produced for sale this Halloween. This mask was also featured at Wes Craven’s Flickr account recently.

Since there is a very strong rumor that Scream 4 will be tackling the remake craze in Hollywood, could the killer in Scream be using different variations of the Ghostface costume to pay homage to certain rebooted franchises? In doing so, could the killer wear something similar to this new “Scarecrow” costume to pay homage to sack worn by Jason Voorhees? For the entire story on these developments, check out our sister site and let us know what you think here about this possibility!

  1. It would be a fresh take on the look of the killer(s) in the newest Scream film. The traditional witch/warlock cloak with the stretched face just isn’t frightening anymore. Keeping with the original look may just make Scream 4 a parody of the Scream films, moreso than the Scary Movies. Jason’s look changed over the years, as did Freddy Kreuger’s. Keeping with the “same ol’ same ol’” can get tiring after a while. Maybe using different takes on the costume to pay homage to the remakes can give audiences a way of deciding on Ghostface’s new standard look.
Another point about the paying homage idea toward other genre films/franchies could be that in doing so they may make a mockery of the original character’s looks and images, possibly tarnishing their scare factor. I hope Mr. Craven and Mr. Williamson take care in their homages to prevent this from happening.

  2. -”Scarecrow Ghostface” is awesome.
    -Adrienned King should be killer(s).
-Or get head chopped like she (as Alice) did to Pamela for Homage.
-I hope Wes “removes” Arquette/Cox from the series. They are bad actors, and their characters are a waste.
Do not know if this multi-posted, because cpu is wierd today, sorry

  3. I hope we get the classic look for most of the movie. That IS Ghostface. With all of the hatred for remakes and fans not seeing what they want, they shouldn’t fool around too much with the look. The scarecrow get-up is god-awful. That is not Ghostface. If these are just quick shots and the classic mask is still the primary mask for the movie, then that’s okay. Since the two teaser posters for the movie have so far had the classic mask front and center, I think it still will be. I hope so. If not, then this is absolutely disappointing.

  4. Man, theres so many rumors floating around about Scream 4. Wasnt it about last week there was a rumor about Adrienne King having a cameo?

  5. That’s what the Scream franchise is all about. ;) Yes, Adrienne King is rumored to have a roll, but it is not confirmed yet.

  6. This masks are really cool, versions of the Jason sack and the Michael Myers mask from the remakes.

  7. The first Scream was good, but the other two weren’t. The killers are always different, but how many people are connected to the original killers. Scream 2 and 3 were like New Nightmare all over again. The only thing that would interest me would be a prequel or atleast a more serious approach to the film. That said, the Scarecrow Ghost face looks ridiculous.

  8. it would be such a strong statment to just keep ghostface exactly the same. why change a good thing. “Scream 4″ could be the best horror flick in a long time. i’m hoping for the best.

  10. maybe the new killer/s will slowly change there costume the more they kill!!!

  11. Technically if you think about it, the series would have been better off if they had completely changed the look on every movie. I say this because “Ghostface” was in no way shape or form anything like a Leatherface, Freddy or Jason. In every movie it’s just some “regular” actor from the movie.

I always thought that it would have benefited the series more if the mask changed per movie. Not a new rendition of the ghostface mask but something fresh and new though something with the same zing as the first.

But I can’t blame them for trying to cash in with the mask. (It’s worked for so many others).. but they forgot one of the “rules” themselves. You have got to have “someone” behind that mask, and truth is none of those actor’s were frightening or catchy.

But that’s just my thoughts, but overall I loved the theme behind the entire series.
