Biography: "Canadian-born actor Lochlyn Munro has made a name for himself with high-strung comic performances in films such as Scary Movie, Dead Man On Campus, and A Guy Thing, as well as turns in more dramatic roles.
Munro (born Richard Laughlin Munro) was born in the small town of Lac La Hache in British Columbia. A gifted sportsman who won awards as a competitive athlete (a gold medal for waterskiing from the B.C. Games), Munro's childhood was a simple one: in winter, play hockey, in summertime, water-ski. This adolescence of constantly being involved in athletics was partly a result of his competitive personality.
'You don't have a whole bunch to do,' he remembers. 'And everyone plays a sport. I don't think it's always about being a natural athlete, I think it's just the fact that that's what you do. It's just what we did.'
When an injury playing junior hockey forced him to abandon his dream of making the NHL, Munro started looking around for a new direction. The acting bug bit him when he went to see his older brother in a play at the University of British Columbia. 'I watched it and I thought, wow, that's a really cool form of entertainment and it looks like it could be kind of a cool job.'
Munro's first professional credits were guest appearances on television series such as Wiseguy and Neon Rider, and while he made his big-screen debut with a bit part in Cadence, Munro spent much of the early-to-mid 1990's doing television work, and began building a fan base when he was cast as a regular on the Canadian television drama Northwood, playing a character named 'Jason'. Munro also starred in the short-lived crime series Two, and has played recurring roles on JAG and Charmed.
Munro's breakthrough came with the comedy Dead Man On Campus, in which he played an overly intense college student whose roommates, in hopes of scoring an easy A, attempt to lead him to his death; he was cast as another tightly wound young man in A Night At The Roxbury. In 2024, Munro appeared in the top-grossing horror film spoof Scary Movie, as well as a more straightforward terror tale, Dracula 2024.
All of which makes his face familiar, not to mention a slight resemblance to Gary Busey. 'That and a younger version of Nick Nolte, I get a lot. It's kind of funny,' he says, noting the similarities to those raspy-voiced blonds end there. 'No, I'm nothing like that. I'm sort of your average, subdued young Canadian.'"
