Kane Hodder And Hatchet II Go Unrated To Theaters

Some pretty significant news was released regarding the horror sequel Hatchet II today by Variety. According to their report, Hatchet II will have an Unrated wide theatrical release via the AMC theater chain on October 1st! Why mention this on a Friday the 13th website? Well, one, Kane Hodder will forever be apart of the Jason Voorhees universe and was responsible for keeping the character alive during the dog days of the 1990’s. Two, Kane plays the awesome Victor Crowley in Hatchet. Finally, three, horror movies just do not get wide releases in an Unrated format, ever.

Typically, if a film goes Unrated, theater chains balk at showing a film in wide release as the MPAA generally scoffs at such dealings. In essence, the film plays out as NC-17, or for those of you around the block before the Ratings change, X Rated. Imagine if the older Friday the 13th films were aloud to be shown in theaters in an Unrated format and were not destroyed by the MPAA. If Hatchet II does well in theaters, it will be interesting to see if distributors and other theater chains follow suit. It could be a new age for showing horror films and perhaps our next Friday the 13th movie could be produced during this new area of distribution!

  1. Thanks for the info! And hopefully this can lead to a better future for horror movies…Especially Uncut versions of future Friday the 13th films:-)

  2. I didn’t really care for the first one, but I’ll still this sequel. Mostly because Danielle Harris and Kane Hodder are in it.

  3. fuck ya!

  4. I absolutely hated “Hatchet” but I’m willing to give “Part 2″ a look because of Danielle Harris. I hated Rob Zombie’s “Halloween” remake but loved Rob’s “Halloween II.” I’m hoping for that appeal to strike twice. :) Could care less if Kane is in this or not.

  5. I liked Hatchet and think that this new sequel looks to be bot more serious in tone and even more brutal. Can’t wait to see this, and Unrated. Awesome!

  6. Thanks for the word.
The kills i hope will be as good, if not better then the first one!!

  7. Kane plays the part so well and very realisticly!!

  8. Nice. The trailer for it is pretty overblown with all its critical praise being all over the beginning of it (The holy grail of slashers?) but I enjoyed Hatchet a lot. I dug the humor and it was fun. I’m looking forward to the second one.

  9. Awesome!!! I love Hatchet, and apparently the body count in part 2 is supposed to be higher. Sexy Danielle Harris is taking over the role of Marybeth so that should be cool. I saw a pic on Bloody Disgusting where Shes in the shower. And being released unrated might be the new thing for horror. Might replace this
whole 3-D thing. The I spit on your grave remake is supposed to be released unrated theatrically as well. Guess we’ll see what happens.

  10. Fucking sweet! The movie theater closest to me just got bought out by AMC. Now I don’t have to drive far away to see it.

  11. I can’t wait till this comes out. Kinda weird since there wasn’t much news on its release and my iphone movie app says its coming out oct 30, oh well. I got the first movie on dvd and love it, and the sequel has the sexy Danielle Harris in it!!! Gonna be awesome!!

  12. This is going to be sweeeeeet. An unrated slasher with Danielle Harris’s gorgeous ass. I am there.

  13. In a time when horror movies are starting to become rare again I’ll take anything we can get. Unrated makes it ever better! Honestly I was a Hodder fan when I was younger, but later in life I found I disliked Zombie Jason more and more. I don’t hate, but don’t prefer I should say, but I have always gave props to Kane for getting close to doing with Jason as Robert did with Freddy.

So overall I’m not a huge Kane fan nor did I like Hatchet much. But I have watched it a few times and it does have it’s entertaining moments. So I would watch Hatchet II without a doubt. Seeing it on the “big screen”… well that would be sweet..
