TECHNICAL ERROR
During the credits sequence, there is a shot of a diner in New York. At the far right, the Asian man sitting at the table stares at the camera for a few moments.
TECHNICAL ERROR
Also during the credits sequence, a shot of people walking down the escalators is shown. But near the end of the shot, the people on the far left that were walking down suddenly stop, and you can see that the escalator takes them back to the top. A very awkward shot.
SEQUEL CONTINUITY
Jason is a bald little child, yet in the narrative flashback, Jason's appearance as a child has changed drastically, making him normal.
EXPLANATION - That flashback was from Jim's imagination, and he would have no idea Jason was deformed.
SEQUEL CONTINUITY
The boat at the beginning is shown floating in Crystal Lake. Up until now, Crystal Lake was never mentioned to have an outlet or river connected to it. So, how did the boat in Crystal Lake float out to the harbor next to the Lazarus?
EXPLANATION - In The Final Chapter, Trish and Mrs. Jarvis said that they always jogged "once around the lake" - but that doesn't exclude the possibility that there could have been a bridge over a river somewhere, leading to the harbor.
LOGIC ERROR
Jim has an almost exact replica of Jason's mask (destroyed in Part 7) - right down to the axe cut from Part 3.
CONTINUITY
When the anchor catches on the electric line, the water is crystal clear, blue and it appears to be lighted, when it is supposed to be dark out.
SEQUEL CONTINUITY
In Part VII Jason's clothes were shredded and you could see his spine, kneecaps, etc. but now his clothes appear almost intact. Also, he's got a nice new pair of black gloves.
TECHNICAL ERROR
In the extreme close-up of Jason's hands grabbing onto the boat's railing you can see Kane Hodder's very human-looking pinky finger sticking out of the glove.
CONTINUITY
When Susie hears a noise, Jim goes to investigate wearing jeans and no shirt. When he comes back with the mask, he is wearing a pajama top. And then in the next shot, he is shown crawling into bed with just his underwear on.
CONTINUITY
In the close-up of the harpoon going into Suzi's stomach there is a great gushing of blood. In the overhead shot however there is only a little blood around the spear.
CONTINUITY
In the scene when Sean and Rennie are talking on the boat, he reaches into his pocket and tries to take out the necklace, but then in the next shot Rennie already has it in her hand.
TECHNICAL ERROR
Throughout the movie, the black cloth covering one of Jason's eyes under the mask is noticable, especially when he is climbing out of the water using the anchor.
TECHNICAL ERROR
When J.J. is below deck jammin', she is shown playing her guitar along with a tape in her boombox. But right after she drops her guitar to run, the music stops playing too.
CONTINUITY
Also when J.J. is down there, the first shot of Jason coming down the stairs ends with his left foot coming down, but in the next shot, it's his right foot coming down.
TECHNICAL ERROR
When J.J. gets whacked with her own guitar, her blood clearly splatters on a piece of glass in front of the camera just before Jason hits her.
CONTINUITY
When Jason attacks the white boxer in the sauna he rams the hot coal into his stomach right above his belly button. However in the overhead shot, the coal is jammed into the middle of his chest.
LOGIC ERROR
The captain of the ship gets his throat slashed, but no blood gushes out, and if you watch closely, the machete barely makes contact with his neck but you can see the faint line where his throat is supposed to open up.
CONTINUITY
When the crazy deckhand appeared after the captain was killed, he said that Jason Voorhees was on the ship. The uncle said that he had been spouting about Jason ever since he came aboard, even though all he said was that the "voyage was doomed", and had not mentioned Jason before then.
TECHNICAL ERROR
When Jason throws Wayne into the electrical switchboard, Wayne's jeans light on fire before he hits the board (check in slow motion). A small spark causes the combustion, and you can see that his pants were obviously soaked with some flammable liquid.
CONTINUITY
When Tamara and Eva are doing drugs, their hair keeps changing from shot to shot, from behind their shoulders to in front of their shoulders.
LOGIC ERROR
When Tamara pushes Rennie overboard, the ship is not moving otherwise it would have left her far behind. Also the water is calm with no waves from the boat.
LOGIC ERROR
Jason teleports up the ship mast to throw off Miles. Sure it's intentional, but it's still stupid.
CONTINUITY
Also, Rennie stabs Jason in the left eye, but later when Jason takes off his mask his left eye hasn't been touched, even though Jason had no left eye but a right eye in Part 7.
TECHNICAL ERROR
When Tamara comes out of the shower, she's completely dry - hair and all.
TECHNICAL ERROR
When Jason punches through the bathroom door to grab Tamara, it has clearly been precut because the hole is a perfect square when he removes his arm.
TECHNICAL ERROR
When Tamara is thrown into the mirror, in the reflection you can tell it is a stunt woman and not the real actress.
TECHNICAL ERROR
When Jason lifts Eva up by her neck, you can see where the rotten flesh makeup ends at the elbow and the rest is a fabric sleeve.
CONTINUITY
Also when Jason is lifting Eva up, it shows her head getting closer and closer to the ceiling, but the shots of her feet stay the same.
TECHNICAL ERROR
When Rennie passes the game room, you can see a crewman reflected in one of the pictures on the wall, giving the actor playing Jason his cue to walk out the door.
TECHNICAL ERROR
When the deckhand falls over from being shot, you can clearly see the square outline of the appliance holding the knife in his back.
TECHNICAL ERROR
While everyone that is left is boarding the escape raft, Jason is standing up on deck and a spinning sprinkler is noticeable above him which is giving off the "rain" for the scene.
LOGIC ERROR
There are numerous shots of water flooding the deck levels on the boat, but when Sean and Rennie finally reach the life boat, they have to climb all the way down the ladder and the ship appears to be at the same level as when Rennie fell off earlier.
LOGIC ERROR
There is no explanation as to how they get Toby the dog down the ladder into the lifeboat, or up onto the harbor dock.
LOGIC ERROR
Julius runs to a pay phone to call the police and dials 9-1-1, but then he says, "Operator, this an emergency, give me the police!"
EXPLANATION - He could have been talking to the police operator, who might want a distinction between the police, an ambulance or the fire department.
CONTINUITY
In the overhead shot where Julius is punching Jason in the face and making him take a step back each time, you can see that Jason stumbles back by the same skylight twice (The background gives it away).
TECHNICAL ERROR
As Jason brings his arm back to punch Julius, the back of his neck obviously buckles like a rubber mask.
TECHNICAL ERROR
When Jason punches off Julius' head, it detaches with a clean, straight line.
TECHNICAL ERROR
When Julius' head falls into the dumpster, a black cord can be seen pulling the lid down.
TECHNICAL ERROR
The wall that Sean emerges from after Rennie was injected with drugs is obviously a set because you can see the wooden props holding the wall up behind him through the doorway.
TECHNICAL ERROR
When Sean finds Rennie in the alley recliner and kneels down to comfort her, there is a clear shadow of the camera hood on his jacket.
TECHNICAL ERROR
When everyone is in the police car, there is no barrier between the front and back seats, something that is there in an NYPD cruiser.
LOGIC ERROR
When the cop gets pulled from his car by Jason, they are in an alley right next to the car. But in the next shot, Jason is standing a good 20 feet away right in front of the car. Why would he have done that instead of just reaching in and killing everyone else?
TECHNICAL ERROR
When the police car hits the wall and explodes you can tell that there are just dummies in the back by the way they bob back and forth. Also you can see a flaming wire coming out of the back of the car, probably what ignited it.
CONTINUITY
When they are in the police car everyone is in the back seat. But when Rennie drives the car into the wall, Sean gets out of the front seat from a seated position.
SEQUEL CONTINUITY
Rennie says she was attacked by Jason as a child when she was learning to swim in Crystal Lake. How is this possible, if the first movie supposedly takes place long before Rennie would be old enough to go swimming, and Jason came out of the lake anyways after Part 1, so he wouldn't have been there when Rennie went swimming.
EXPLANATION - Rennie is another in the long line of psychic girls Jason has gone up against. She wasn't physically assaulted by Jason, but mentally.
LOGIC ERROR
How did Jason know that McCulloch would run into that building and come up to the second story? And how did Jason get there so fast? (Yes, again it's intentional. It's still stupid.)
CONTINUITY
Sean and Rennie round the corner from the left of the subway station and go in, but in the next shot Jason chases them from the right side and busts through the glass.
CONTINUITY
Also in this shot, if you look closely you can see Kane Hodder's shadow under the circular subway sign to the left as he waits for his cue to follow Sean and Rennie and break the glass door.
CONTINUITY
When Sean and Rennie are being chased through the subway cars, they appear to be running toward the back of the train, but in the shot where they reach the "last" car, the lights are going the opposite direction. Take a close look.
LOGIC ERROR
It is geographically illogical that Sean and Rennie end up in Times Square when the Statue of Liberty is about 50 blocks away from it. They did get on the subway, but they immediately had to jump off, so they couldn't have walked all of that way.
CONTINUITY
When Jason grabs the New York cook (Ken Kirzigner), he is several paces to the right of the mirror, but when he throws the cook into the mirror Jason can clearly be seen in the reflection standing right across from it.
LOGIC ERROR
"The sewer floods out every night with toxic waste? What the hell is that? This makes no sense to anybody, but hey, they do crazy things in New York so we're supposed to believe him.
LOGIC ERROR
The entire death scene of the sewer worker is illogical, with the way the shadows show Jason hitting his shoulder, and the worker reacting BEFORE he is hit. The way the blood splatters on the wall is obviously someone throwing a bucket of blood in front of the camera and not coming from the worker.
LOGIC ERROR
When Rennie throws the barrel of toxic waste on Jason - how does the container get there if the sewer floods out every night at midnight? Also, she is holding the bucket with her bare hands and appears unaffected by this 'toxic waste'.
TECHNICAL ERROR
There is a shot of Sean and Rennie on the ladder trying to escape the sewer where Rennie is almost piggy-backed on him, but in the very next shot her position has moved down a few rungs and her head is near his waist.
LOGIC ERROR
Even though this toxic waste is powerful enough to completely dissolve Jason, Rennie and Scott do not appear to be affected by the fumes enveloping them nor is Rennie affected by the liquid splashing at her feet.
SEQUEL CONTINUITY
In Part VII Jason's left eye was bad. In Part VIII his right eye is bad.
