Harold’s Demise Controversy In Friday the 13th Part 3

Harold’s appetite along with the bad 3D snake-on-a-wire effect eventually landed him on the toilet and then to his death. The opening of Friday the 13th Part 3 has always been one part explainable, one part confusion. It is understandable that Jason stopped at the store to get a new change of clothes while on the run from the authorites because of the carnage he left behind at the counselor training center. However, after getting his new clothes, why did he stick around and kill Harold and Edna?

Was Jason hiding out in that back room and because Harold quickly ran back there to go to the bathroom, Jason felt threatened and decided to kill Harold? If true, then perhaps if Harold didn’t stuff his face full of crap, as Edna liked to say it, then maybe Jason would have disappeared on his way to Higgens Haven and the store owners would have made it out of the situation alive?

  1. The main thing I seem to remember is that he used the bathroom before he died but when he got up from the can he… didn’t wipe. -_^

  2. Jason remembered going to the store as a kid with his mom. And when he came back this time and saw how gross and disgusting Harold was, and how loud and annoying his wife was, he decided to do a couple of favors to the residents of the Crystal Lake area. But he never gets any recognition for his good deeds.

  3. I think Jason has shown himself to be a bit of an opportunist. If they had remained in the living room and watched TV together he likely would have moved on, but realizing when Harold went to the outhouse that he would be an easy kill, he just went for it.

  4. It must be remembered that in 3D’s opening, Jason is suffering from a deep machete laceration through his shoulder from the previous night. He’s like a wounded, angry animal, striking out in confusion and pain, enraged for more carnal reasons that avenging his mother or protecting his territory. Anyone crossing his path would have had a very, very bad night.

  5. I agree with Lorne. He was pissed and in pain and wanted someone else to feel what he was feeling. I think that even if they were both sitting on the couch watching tv Jason would’ve offed them still. He’s proven that he can multi task and kill more than one at a time(as seen in part 2 and 6).

  6. I just think Jason was tired of Edna’s big mouth.

  7. Harold’s not the only one to “not wipe” in a Friday movie – Demon dropped those enchiladas and never wiped – he got killed too! Is there a message there? If you don’t wipe, you die?

  8. Chuck gets off the outhouse can later and doesn’t wipe, either.

The reason Harold and Edna died?

It was in the script, and it added two kills to the movie’s body count.

  9. I could swear when Harolds taking a crap, Hes sitting on the toilet lid. And nobody ever wipes their ass in the FT13th movies. Chuck(pt.3) and Demon (pt.5) didnt see much point in doing it either. But anyway, I think Jason needed a place to lay low since the cops are supposedly looking for Him. He killed Harold and Edna to assure that they wouldnt mess up His plan. Where He shaved His head, Who knows. And Ill just disreguard Chris’s “flashback” sequance because it makes no sense and is flat out stupid and pointless. But I believe Jason just needed a place to chill and buy some time. Although its kind of funny. After the events in part 2, the next day Harold and Ednas bodies are being loaded into an ambulance. But yet, theres no search party or cops around Higgins Haven. And all the Teens are oblivious to any of it. “Hey lets go camping right near the area where all those teens got killed yesterday”. I love FT13th bloopers.

  10. I have three theories

    a) he wanted a warm up
    b) he was disgusted that he didnt wipe his butt
    c) he was bored

  11. Jason went for the change of clothes, Edna and Harold happened to be there. I think if you’re within Jason’s reach, you’re dead. No matter what. I never questioned it. I always figured if you’re in the same area as Jason, and he knows you’re there and can get to you without bringing direct attention to himself…that’s it.

  12. When has Jason ever thought about who he should kill and when he should kill. You all miss the point here. Jason kills without thought. You cross his path you will die.

  13. We all know they were just “added” kills to the series, but I get your point. (In a real situation), would he have survived if he hadn’t made a “Demon Sprint” to the toilet?

Hmm. Honestly, I think he would have been killed regardless. Look at Edna for example… she was inside when she was killed, so it’s safe to say he would have came in for Harold also.

Though Edna did go outside for laundry which could have been the reason he pursued her. Not to mention all that yelling out of the window.

    “DAYFLY EGGS…!”

  14. We can assume that Jason changed his clothes because he was on the run from authorities and didn’t want to make himself obvious. He obviously didn’t want to stand out as they were looking for him. So he decided to get rid of his blood soaked overalls and backwoods outfit. I have always come up with my own theory about how Jason goes from having strands of long hair in part 2, to being completely bald in the beginning of part 3. I say he shaved his head…lol…because he was trying to avoid the authorities looking for a man with long strands of hair and a backwoods outfit. Although, his deformed face would have given himself away, especially with those eyes ;) . Anyway, maybe he shaved his head before he got the change of clothes (because he is obviously seen in the shadows in the beginning of part 3, bald as an eagle) then grabbed his new outfit :)

  15. He is loving the killing after the onslaught of Part 2. Harold and Edna just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

  16. I can honestly say that this is one of the funniest threads I’ve ever read on this site, between everyone mentioning the lack of butt wiping in the F13 series and the awesome quotes from part 3 (DAYFLY EGGS! hahahaha!!!)
Anyway, I never thought of this whole scenario, but I would just say that Jason killed Harold and Edna because Edna suspected something was up and Jason probably felt like he was caught, so he had to do something to make sure they didn’t call the cops right away.
But of course, the best answer is simply because this was in the script, and it added two kills to the series. lol
