What Friday The 13th The Series Should Have Been

I know that there are a lot of people who are fans of the Friday the 13th TV series. I have to admit that there were some pretty cool episodes. But everyone must admit that they would have rather seen a killer stalking in weekly episodes. Well, I always thought the best way to do so was to go back to the original movie and have people being knocked off one by one by the unseen killer. This could be Jason or a mystery killer that would be later revealed at the end of a season or end of the series.

Well, CBS has gone ahead and created something spot on. They have a new show starting on April 9th called Harper’s Island. A person is killed in each weekly episode and the motive behind the killings is revealed in the last episode of the season. Murder mysteries are cool and I am hoping that this doesn’t dissapoint. Check out their page below and check it out and let us know what you think.

  1. I liked The series and I liked the way it was, sort of X-Files in a way. Forget the name of the series, I think it was good as it was.

  2. There are plenty of films with Jason going around killing people, a TV show would have just milked the concept even more. I like that they tried something new with the show but it just suffers from ’80’s cheese!

  3. I agree that there is definite cheese factor in the series! :)

Don’t get me wrong everyone. I loved the series. Thought it was great. But with a good concept and descent story line, a tv series like this Harper’s Island show could take Friday the 13th into a new direction. Just a thought.

  4. I LOVED the show, as it was. Yes, the “F13″ name intrigued me to watch, but the show itself stood on it’s own. They could have had a different name, but then they wouldn’t have had that initial interest and marquee value. Catch 22, I suppose.

Funny how we have the “killer/victim each week” premise now with “Harper’s Island” and also the “retrieve mystical/cursed items” premise with SciFi’s (or SyFy’s) new “Warehouse 13″. Odd timing, yes?

    Enough babbling, more coffee…

  5. Really looking forward to Harper’s Island. The ads look great…hope the show doesn’t disappoint.

  6. I agree. It should have been like “Freddy’s Nightmare,” but with Jason.

  7. The Brazilians fans don\’t see this serie =/

  8. One thing I always found to be really ironic was that John D. LeMay was always so hardcore about the TV having nothing to do with Jason only to end up IN A MOVIE WITH JASON!!

  9. I meant “TV show”. Sorry.

  10. Episodic television has come such a loooong way since the 70’s and 80’s. Having a season long arc is brilliant and i love that TV has become such a compelling medium. It used to be the bastard third cousin to cinema. Movie stars would never been dead on telly. Now, they are going there in droves cause the quality is exceptional and even out does a LOT of current theater offerings.
I love that a “weekly murder” seriel is headed our way. Hope the killer turns out to be Jason. That would be…er…”killer!”

  11. Alright, I watched the episode of Harper’s Island last night and it was okay. You got a guy tied to the propellar at the bottom of a ship and when the engine started blood spit out the back of the ship and later a deck hand is trying to untangle some seaweed from the propellar under the ship and the guys cut off head pops up. Then at the end of the episode, another dude falls through this wooden walk bridge in the middle of the woods and, as his legs were dangling, someone pulls out what sounds like a machete and cuts of his legs.

Anyone else see this and have any comments?

  12. I saw it, too, and I enjoyed it. The kills were creative, and there’s some Twin-Peaks-ish weirdness going on that I like. It’s a little too early to tell if I will care about anyone who dies, etc., although I like some of the characters so far. I hope that it continues to have a heavy slasher influence, like it has so far. I was glad they had a “crime in the past” like most slashers, as well. I really hope it gets even better and starts going like a train until July 2nd, the last episode.

  13. i like jason friday the 13th without jason it will be not friday the 13th

  14. Yeah, I think the series was cool as it was. It would have likely thrived given a different name though.

  15. ‘i like jason friday the 13th without jason it will be not friday the 13th’

I take it you’ve never seen the original movie then? He’s only in that for about five seconds
