Exclusive News from The Scare Fest: Paramount to release Friday the 13th uncut
It’s already widely known (and has been reported here) that there are plans for a new edition of Friday the 13th on DVD. Well, here’s even better news for fans to sink their teeth into. Earlier today ,while attending “The Scare Fest” in Lexington, KY, fans were treated to an awesome piece of news.
During the Q & A panel, a question was asked to the cast regarding footage that was cut from the film including an extended scene of Pamela Voorhees head rolling after being decapitated as well as a few other extended sequences. The panel members (including Adrienne King, Betsy Palmer, Harry Manfredini, Tom Savini, and Victor Miller) spoke about these sequences. Paramount was on hand filming the entire Q & A panel which was awesome to be a part of. The big news came after the panel discussion concluded. A representative of Paramount stated that the upcoming release of Friday the 13th on DVD would be fully restored and uncut including the extended sequences! Extended cuts already exist in Japan and a few other countries. But this will be the first time this footage has ever been released on DVD and restored.
The panel discussion (which was very informative, funny and insightful) will be included on the DVD as a special feature. Looks like they’re finally going to do this right! So there’s something that a lot of fans may be more than happy about!
As for The Scare Fest, all I can say is that it’s truly been a blast to meet and get acquainted with such important people in Friday the 13th history. It’s truly been an honor. I plan on having a complete story about my experience in the next few days. After a discussion with Adrienne King at the convention, I also have a Friday the 13th related story that she wants to get out to the fans on a larger scale. So keep an eye out for that in the near future as well. Adrienne was absolutely one of the nicest people I have ever met. A true class act.

This is SA-WEEEEEEEEEEEEET! I can’t wait for that. Who would have thought that the remake/reimaging would do so much for the originals in the series. Great news indeed. Now all we need to know about is the new from Adrienne King. The excitement is killing me! Oh God it’s killing me! (yeah that was sad I know but whatever, I’m stoked)
Wait- so it will be uncut, as in the UK version? Or including gore that has never seen the light of day? I don\’t know of those scenes ever being available in Japan?!
There was discussion about some extended scenes in the Japanese version such as the footage of Mrs. Voorhees’s head rolling away after being hacked off. I’m sure most fans have seen that footage at one time or another. There are also various angles that were shot of certain scenes that were spoken of as well as some extended scenes and murders with more gore etc. But it will be cool to see it reincorporated into the film and remastered.
As for Adrienne, this is more of a personal story that she wanted to share as opposed to a news story. She shared bits and pieces during the Q & A. But there’s a bit more to it. awesome to hear about the uncut of part 1. i really should have went tonight. i think i would more excited about a 3d version of pt 3. we all know that we’ll never all be satisfied, haha. Give me whatever ya got.

Is there consideration for a Blu-Ray release???
I’m also wondering if this means the UK version or even more than that - I know of the R-rated (USA) and unrated cut (Europe), but even more? That’d almost be like a new cut altogether. Interesting.
And Dean, afraid not. According to the last blog post on the DVDs, there was no Blu-Ray planned at this time.

the japan,UK and Scandinavian ones. Those are the longest and uncut dvd versions. The gore scenes run a little bit longer than on the R-rated USA version (some)…correct if iam wrong.

Wow…that is seriously great to see. Paramount finally has an event to celebrate beside partly owning the rights to a great series.
Just to let you all know I found 3D dvd versions of part3 at ioffer.com and bought 2 different versions. The first is anaglyphic 3D which requires the standard red/blue glasses then the other version is stereoscopic which requires electronic lcd glasses.
I am still waiting on the proper glasses to be shipped to me and the unit to make it all work but I just had to check it out since I did not get to see the 3D version in theaters back then!
Maybe I am getting screwed and they won’t work but I just had to know and will keep you all informed when I see both versions.

Kane Hodder stated during his Q & A at the event that part VII will never be able to be released uncut. He said he has the footage that was cut including a lot of gory stuff. But he said it’s in horrendous shape and there would just be no possible way to ever fix it.
Well, it’s ABOUT time! Now, all we have to do is get them to do the rest, and then I’ll re-buy them all!

Was totally there this weekend. The Paramount rep was pretty cool to inform those of us attending the Reunion panel in the manner that he did … it went something like “Hey, you know the cut of the film they were referring to in the discussion? Well its the cut Paramount will be releasing in the new boxset.”
I’m glad to see that Paramount’s interest in the Friday the 13th franchise is renewed!
Yeah. I guess they are trying to capitalize on the remake coming out around the same time. But I honestly don’t care what kind of money they are trying to make as long as we finally get it. lol. The Q & A was a complete blast. I didn’t ask any questions. Mainly because all of the cliche questions have been covered and everyone there seemed to be doing a fine job. But it was great to be able to observe this and be in the crowd. I did have on my Jason costume. So in the crowd shots I may stand out like a sore thumb being as though I was the only one in the room in costume. So keep an eye out for that. lol. I didn’t have the mask and undermask on during the taping. But when they did the crowd shots I put it on.
Too cool. I already commented on this on the IMDB, and I came here to check out the confirmed news.
This, on one hand, is way cool. And I’m glad that FINALLY we’re gettin’ some uncut Friday’s on here. And now hopefully, more of the cut footage can be re-inserted, and hopefully the exercised material wont be as in unusable shape pas Part VII’s. Ah well, that was a terrible instalment anyway.

Interesting… I’ve never been to psyched for a part 1 uncut, since its such a minimal change… but better then nothin’.
For what it’s worth… XBox Live has F13 parts 2 and 3 available to rent in HD. Maybe that 1-3 boxset will be available in blu-ray after all.
I don’t get why this version was only available in other countries like Japan, UK, etc. Are we that sensitized? Now if we could just get decent official versions of what that fleshwound video website is selling I’ll be even happier!

I’mm afraid I don’t know, bro. (*shrugs*) It just had somethin’ to do with Warner Bros., of all people, holding the International distrobution rights for so long, and them having an uncut print, and at the tmie much less countries giving two shits about ‘evil’ hard R-rated, gory Slasher films. So good on them. North America is just so often a much different story.

i wish i could get psyched but i’ve had bootlegs of the uncut part 1 since the early 90s and a few years back got the uncut overseas dvd. plus they already showed all the uncut footage from part 1 on the boxset.
i’d like to congratulate paramount on the first smart thing they’ve done with this series but it took them almost 30 years, several vhs’s and 3 or 4 dvd releases to do it. the most that will get out of me is “its about time!”
now part 2 or part 3 uncut, that would be something to rave about!! that footage has NEVER seen the light of day.

That, along with not being psyched about the uncut footage (since as you noted, it was already avalilable to anybody who wanted to import and was shown on the highly disappointing boxset that we all already got, ect). You said a mouth full.
Yeah, this news is not that interesting to me.I’ve seen the uncut Friday Pt.1 for years..
We want an uncut Parts 2 & 3.. Greg Nicotero said that Carl Fullerton still has the uncut impalement of Jeff and Sandra in Part 2.Maybe he has more…? So, Paramount should be searching these guys out as well.
And the alternate ending of Part 3 where Chris loses her head.
If Paramount wants a boxset to sell, they have to do the research.
If only they’d think about this sooner, before all of the footage got ruined. One time they even said they’re ashamed of owning the series, and now you know why.
If I’m not mistaken, the only footage that Hodder has from Part VII is the VHS tape that he used to take around with him, which had been played over and over again. Even if the tape were in pristine condition, I don’t see how it could have been transferred from VHS and have been remotely useful.
Buechler told me via email several years ago that the original footage should still exist in “the vault” (at least, I think that’s the terminology he used) at Paramount. He also said that he would be willing to re-cut the film for a “Director’s Cut.”
If Kane’s tape of the footage is the only form that it’s available in, it would be safe to say that there’s no reason to even hope for an uncut TNB.
I still don’t understand why Paramount would just throw film away. Of course, I don’t understand a lot of the things that Paramount has done over the years.

After the wait, and the disapointing boxed set, I sometimes wonder why i’ve remained a fan for so long. But i’ve been a fan of Jason and F13, not Paramount. I really hope they make amends with this. Personally i’d pay a high price for the whole series done right. ( Which would make it the 4th time i’ve bought these movies, but also the last. )
who cares about an uncut first friday, we have all seen the extras online at some point. i know that its useless to wish for the others to be uncut, but we can always pray.
besides, its the movies with jason in it that we actually want to see uncut, cause he did the best killings.

I have both the international cut and the official japanese verion on VCD. You are only talking about 2-3 seconds of extra footage.

I’m also hoping that, within the next two years cause of the 30th anniversary of Part 1 comin’ up, that maybe we’ll see a proper boxset done right for the LAST and FINAL double-dipping form them. *crosses figners*
