Friday Fans: What Do We Call Ourselves?
An undervalued aspect of a fanbase is how we identify ourselves between each other and to outsiders. We’re Friday Fans one and all, but that’s just a generic default that states the obvious. It’s what we are but not who we are.
I guess Mama’s Boys would be accurate as far as relevance to Jason is concerned, but I can’t really see that one catching on, can you?
Star Trek has Trekkers and Trekkies
Adding an “er” would be the basic line of fanbase coinage but our favorite films here don’t exactly lend themselves to that pattern of thought: Fridayers doesn’t quite roll of the tongue and Thirteeners sounds like a group for pedophiles. Moving on…
A Nightmare on Elm Street has Fredheads
The ‘Fredhead’ name was only recently christened officially by the Never Sleep Again documentary, with its source in older drafts of the Freddy vs. Jason screenplay which featured a Freddy cult. So that works for fans of the burnt one but nothing we can apply to us. Voorheads? Um, no.
Even Sleepaway Camp has a fan name: Campers
Yowza! So that one might have been perfect for us – well, twenty years ago! Because in 1982 the Friday series threw away its campground setting. So it’s no wonder it was snatched up by another franchise fanbase. And sorry, Counselors would just confuse.
Is there already an existing term for us? Oh, it’s “Dickheads”? Who said that!? I’m serious though, in case we already do have an approved name or if we used to and it fell out of vogue, I’d love to know just to put this to rest. This is a recurring subject in my ol’ grey matter lately! It’s the little things that nag you.
How about Crystal Lakers? It might sound like a basketball team but at least its representative of the location of the films. That’s just my own dollar store idea though. Do throw your own suggestions into the mix! What should we call ourselves? What would we be proud to answer to?

I’m a huge Star Wars fan, and I’m usually refered to as a “Fanboy” because of it. (And probably because of the movie by that name.) But that can probably be used for anything that has a following.
Point is, you don’t exactly have to base it off a name from the film in question.
Anyway, here’s a couple of ideas:

I’m a fan of Hockey Pucks myself. But I always say “I’m a Friday fan.” People know what it means, so why bother saying something different?
I agree with Jason’s brother James, being called Friday fan is simple and to the point.
