Friday Conversation: Naming The Sequel
If there is one lesson learned from Rob Zombie’s Halloween movies, it’s that you should not name your sequel the same as the original series sequel. For instance, when having a conversation with someone about Zombie’s Halloween 2, the inevitable situation will occur and the question will be asked, “are you talking about Halloween 2 from the 80’s or the new Halloween 2″. It’s hard enough to keep track of 12 films in the series now, but can you imagine having two keep track of two movies titled Friday the 13th and Friday the 13th Part 2? It would make for an even more confusing conversation when trying to explain events within the franchise to a novice.
Perhaps it really makes no difference, but do you think that the next movie in the franchise should be simply named Part 2, or do you think a subtitle should be added to Friday the 13th? The likes of “The Final Chapter” and “Jason Lives” make it easy to reference a film in the series. If you prefer a subtitle, what would you choose for the newest film in the franchise?
I would name it only “Camp blood”, is something like “the dark knight” instead “Batman”.

If it’s a sequel they should just go with part: 2, but if they plan on a prequel of some sort, which I think they will not, then they should go with something like: “The Beginnig” (not “A New Beginning”, that was obviously used already) or “The Origin”. But it is kind of hard to come up with another subtitle that would make sense. Regardless of subtitles I’m sure people will know the difference between this and the original part:2.
I mean, Electric Boogaloo sounds awesome! lol but I’d honestly say go with something real simple.

You’ll know through various posters and teasers its a Jason film. For us it helps emphasize the fact its the 13th film in the series.
As favoring the idea of seeing is as Part 13, naming it Part two does not dissuade me from me view; but does kinda irritate me. As well as for the reason listed in the blog.
I would prefer a subtitle, however, I am not sure of what a good one would be. xamoel’s name of Camp Blood works fine for me.
Sorry JasonsFury, but I disagree with you 100%… I would prefer it to be just called Friday the 13th Part II… It will avoid any completely unoriginal/stupid subtitles… As for Rob Zombie’s Halloween 2, just call it Zombie’s H2… Works well for me and all my friends, and can work for anyone just as easily… It even takes less breath to say Zombie’s H2 than it does to say, Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers or Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers, etc… And btw xamoel, there is already a really shitty trilogy of slashers called Camp Blood, and I would hate for the F13 series to get confused (or even compared) to such a travesty of films!!

I think you shouldn’t change the name, it’s fine it’s a remake, it’s sup post to be like the original, but could have a different story just as long as it’s good, makes sense, and looks real. But yea, I say keep the name Friday the 13th II.

In all seriousness they should stick with the number “2.” A subtitle would probably sound hokey. I read above an idea of “F13″, and “Crystal Lake.” Going The Dark Knight route wouldn’t be a bad idea either. The movie doesn’t have to be titled Friday the 13th to get people into the theatres if the trailers establish the Jason character, and not be a teaser trailer that doesn’t show anything.

To me I think they should go back to the original series and continue off after Freddy vs. Jason! Cause the remake made money when it first came out then it just stalled after the next week and so on like no one cared anymore.
I think they should name it Friday the 13th: The New Chapter. Hence the title will pay hommage to one of the greatest flicks in the franchise.
Some of these ideas are legitimately good and others offer their own hilarity. Great answers everyone. I was thinking that since the script that was turned in by Platinum Dunes was going to take place at Camp Crystal Lake, and if they had to use “Friday the 13th” in the title, then what about either Camp Blood: Friday the 13th 2 or just Camp Blood, period. Something to that effect.
I would say just go with Friday The 13th Part 2. All these remake sequals like Halloween and The Hills Have Eyes, they didnt bother with a sequal title. I really wouldnt know what to call it. Awhile back I sent in an idea for a sequal, just a taste from My huge vision of the ultimate FT13th movie. Bassicaly where Jason is kind of like a fugitive, and the FBI is sent in to investigate the aftermath of part 1 and hunt Jason down. But You have to remember, Jasons still like Rambo. Id have to really brainstorm for a sequal title. But 2 come to mind. Friday The 13th Part 2: Jasons War, or Friday The 13th Part 2: Aftermath. But I seriously think they should just go with Friday The 13th part 2. Pays a little respect to the original part 2. When My sister asked to borrow Halloween 2, I simply asked Her ” The original, or the new one”? Its not that hard. If a novice was confused I would love to explain it to them. I love talking horror. Everyone I know comes to Me with horror questions like “Who played the tall dude in Phantasm”? I love it. I just wish I could write this script for the sequal, or at least pass it on to a great writer. That would be awesome.

Didn’t like any of these except for Friday the 13th: Chapter 2… This is exactly why I don’t think the series needs anymore subtitles… They all suck complete ass!! And as I’ve stated before, Camp Blood is already a shitty trilogy of slashers and I would hate for the F13 series to take on the same title!! I say stick with the simple Part II/Chapter II/ F13 II, etc… It’s not as lame!! Take the saw series, for instance… Never used subtitles… Not even once!! So why does everyone think every series has to have sequels with subtitles?? They always come off as stupid/lame!!
Instead of being a confusion of Friday the 13th part 2, why not just Friday the 13th: Jason’s 2nd. I know I know it sounds alot like a Beethoven movie, but hey it’s an ideal

lol, i have to laugh at that second one i put up there, lol
but in all seriousness, alot of these titles that people are putting up there are pretty lame. i am not going to single out certain titles. just something simple like Friday 2, or The Next Chapter ( as a homage ). i always thought certain Friday titles before sucked aswell, such as A New Beginning and The New Blood. although, Jason Takes Manhattan does have a catchy title, makes me think of the muppets.
Well concidering that right at the end Jason shot out off the water when they persumed that he was DEAD and grabed the girl, i would say it’s a part 2.
Interesting question. While I think there should be some kind of subtitle, I personally can’t think of one.
My opinion however, is to just drop the word “PART” from the title. Just simply have it as “FRIDAY THE 13TH II.”

The Real problem that happened in the original series was the continuity among titles [friday the 13th part 2 and 3] when it was obvious that it happened the day after or on another day. This made it hard for future writers and producers to make the film faithful to its unique title. My suggestion for the sequel at least if i was making it myself would be: “The Curse of Friday the 13th” or simply “Curse of Friday the 13th”. This would make it easier to set a continuity for Jason and at the same time it would make reference to that day “Friday the 13th” without actually having to fall on it, specifically because at the end of the day the story is about Jason and Friday the 13th it is when it all began. This would also allow to show some the tittle we are familiar with instead of using a stand alone title which later confused some of the new new public in later generations. I am currently writing a script for it, whether people or the studious would pay any attention to it is another thing.

I think they should center it around the story. For example, if they have a story about a man hunting Jason… you could call it something like “friday the 13: Hunt The Hunter.”
I am not saying do this story for part 2, but I like the titles to be centered around the plot.

Twuelve teenagers rent a cabin next to the Jarvis’ in Crystal Lake to have a birthday party but what they don’t know is that Jason wants to come home and he’s going to eliminate all who stands on his way. While everybody wants to enjoy the party, Jason wants to cut the guests (cake) and blow your mind (candles). You don’t want to miss this party. Or do you?

Since they ditched Camp Crystal Lake in the 90s, there is enough time for something to change. I would think that a college could spring up in the town (possibly for new money generation to the city, but who really cares why), and obviously the lake would be on the outskirts of the college. Jason would have so much to do- dorms, gym, classrooms, and obviously the lake. Friday the 13th: Jason Goes to College would have a humorous, yet original, title…and also be able to take place present-day in the town that houses Jason and Crystal Lake.
Saturday the 14th: The Next Day
I can’t think of anything offhand. I like the idea of law enforcement searching Crystal Lake, hunting for Jason. It’d be cool to see Jason take them out systematically. These new films are definately going to have a different tone than the original series. Friday the 13th Part II works for me.
