Friday the 13th part 2: Release date announced!
Warner Bros. has officially announced the follow up to 2024’s Friday the 13th relaunch and have even given a release date! Friday the 13th part 2 will reportedly pop into theaters on Friday, August 13, 2024! Nothing has been official in regards to what the plot will be this time around, but after the confusion that MMA fighter Tim Sylvia was already working on a sequel, Brad Fuller shot that rumor down by stating that Derek Mears was his Jason. As for the plot, it has been hinted that Crystal Lake may finally be presented in a wintry setting, but that has yet to be confirmed. Friday the 13th part 2 will be the 13th film in the 30 year old franchise.
Platinum Dunes is currently locked tightly in post production and touching up their current project, a remake of 80’s classic “A Nightmare on Elm Street” (trailer) featuring Jackie Earle Haley in the role of Freddy Krueger, a role made famous by Robert Englund. Should we be excited or worried? I mean, i didnt like the F13 remagining/redo as many, many, many true fans also didn’t like the film. But hopefully they learn from tehir HUGE mistakes of the first one and make Part 2 at least 50% enjoyable and not lame.

16- Can some of the female victims scream please!
17- Lots of Jump scares!
18- A Body needs to come crashing through a window! I miss those things that make you jump!
19- Can someone discover the dead bodies the way they used to!
20- Jason needs to act like a deranged killer! Not a breathe heavy super hero!
21- Get rid of that underground mine crap!
22- We need a ‘you’re doomed’ type character who warns the victims!
23- Stop trying to get all fancy with story sub plots and get to the point! Stop trying to explain too much! We want to feel the terror again!
24- ONE funny character! ONLY ONE!!!!!!!! And that one should not be too annoying, desperate and obnoxious.
25- Sex and weed are fine when it’s NOT OVER THE TOP! Girl massaging her boobs for attention…Too much. Guy masturbating to a woman in a magazine…LAME.
26- No heroic one liners like, “Go to Hell!”, “Die Bitch!” (not sure when they said those but those are examples of lame one liners lol)
27- Use the characters traits from the first 4 as examples of characterizations. AND DON’T Exxagerate them for a ‘modern audience’. Gimme a break.
28- Most important!!! AGAIN…STEADY THAT DAMN CAMERA YOU LAZY BUNCH OF FILMMAKERS TRYING TO SAVE TIME AND MONEY NOT USE DOLLIES! LOL! The following is to be read sarcastically: Here is what horror directors say to the director of photography these days: “Hey you, hold the camera over your shoulder and film ALL of the action on one swoop! Move it to the right, get her arm in the shot, quick, move it up, quick move it left to get jason’s face, move it down fast, try to get the blood splatter on the wall, quick move it back to the floor for nothing, move it up, down, sideways, great, just like a music video! This is gonna be awesome! No one is going to know what the hell is going on in this scene! It’s gonna be great!” NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shannon and Swift claim to be ‘true fans’ of the series. Hmm…hasn’t seemed like it. Even in F VS J, Jason scared of ‘water’? If they were ‘true fans’ they’d know that jason has no problem entering the water. Hence, some of the Lake killings.

Personally, there were many things I didn’t like about it. But at the heart, it was a Friday the 13th film. Naturally, some of the conversation wasn’t the most prolific. But if someone can show me a Friday the 13th that has some intelligent and engrossing dialog, I’d sure be interested in seeing that. Last time I checked, our favorite film series was stacked full of teenagers eating weed in a van, discovering our status in life on Teds imaginary computer,Cort thinking that his girl is slamming into a wall in an RV while masturbating, and many many more instances. Yet, I’ve loved every minute of it. I can’t say there’s a single film in this series that I don’t like SOMETHING about. There are only moments that I dislike. Some contain more than others, but I love this series from part 1-remake. Let’s face it. Until the world comes to an end, Jason will be in theaters. It’ll never end. And as long as I am alive, I will be there to see it again…and again. Keep em coming! But we’re all entitled to our owns views and opinions. That’s what keeps the world interesting, without a doubt!

Ghastly is right, the writers never wanted that aspect of the story in the movie. They were very opposed to Jason being afraid of water.

I too am what you would consider a big time Friday the 13th fan and yet I still enjoyed the remake for what it was. It was still a Friday movie we got to see jason do what he does best. As long as We dont got another Jason X then Ill see what ever warner brothers wants to put out for us friday fans.

In any case, I’m giving Part 2 a chance. I agree with those who say a few negative things about the first redo. I didn’t care much for it. I totally get that some fans hated it and yet some fans loved it. It’s a matter of taste and opinion. Nothing to get so worked up over folks.

Now, back to the topic….Part 2. I personally thought F13 reimagined was just ok. When i first saw it I was totally disappointed. Except for the fact that Derek Mears was a cool fast violent Jason but it seemed a little too Texas Chainsawish. I mean I LOVE Texas Chainsaw movies but I want Friday the 13th when watching Friday the 13th. If they ever turned Halloween into Friday the 13th, I’d be pissed. If they ever turned Jaws into Piranha, I’d be pissed. I like each film to have it’s own identity. The redo of F13 did borrow lots from the F13 legend But I feel it also borrowed from Texas in it’s styling. That’s just my opinion. Oh, so as for Part 2, I am giving it chance and hopefully it will work.

Haha, loved reading Stephanie’s list, part of me agrees with it, part of me doesn’t. You might as well write “give us part 2-4 all over again”, in which case, don’t bother buying a ticket – just go watch 2-4 again. :) Of course it scares me that they might be doing anything with Jason, but the thought of another straight carbon copy of a movie that’s been done 12 (TWELVE) times already almost scares me even more. Doesn’t anyone agree? I really liked what they did with Jason in the latest film, and Derek is reinvigorating – but I wish they’d go with different writers. We’ve already seen the “fun” movie, now give us the dark one – and it does not have to be The Final Chapter all over again, it can still stand on its own. Manfredini’s last two scores were terrible – and I don’t think he’s up for returning these days, so I’d be really interested to see Jablonsky really takes on some of his original themes – he contributed the only good part to the awful second Transformers movie, the score.
I also find it funny that there are supposedly “true fans” and “untrue fans” – exactly what does that entail? Does a “true” fan only love the original films? Does he/she collect at least thirteen pieces of memorabilia? Know all the lines? No offense, but give me a break. Friday the 13th is still a living entity, that’s what makes it great – every film has a slightly different shade to it, so I will always welcome a new installment.

That “true fan” argument is soooo lame. I guess a “true fan”´s favourite Jason is Kane odder, the “true fan”´s favourite F13 movie is TNB and the worst is Jason X. There are bizillions of dedicated fans (or “true fans”) who loved the new movie. Check out the opinions on the F13-community for example. To each their own … but don´t “force” something on somebody, especially if you can´t back it up.
As for the “Jason fears water” stuff in FvsJ: As pointed out in the novelization: This fear is subconscious. Jason didn´t mind the water when he dragged that body to his house (in that “let´s see what skeletons are hidden in oyur closet” scene) because he was in control of things. but he was afraid when he was not in control of things because he feared drowning (not necessarily water itself).
IMO the remake is the best thing in the franchise since the Final Chapter. I´d like to mention that I love Jason X and FvsJ. They are among my faourtie F13th´s … but I also know that they are “gimmick” movies which where more focused on entertainment that scares.
With Shannon & Swift we got great stories and great characters (IMO of course). What we lacked were great kills. I think I read an interview in which Brad Fuller pointed out that they want to improve on the kills in the sequel. If the sequel turns out to be like the remake that I am very pleased … if he kills are better then it´s going to be even better.

Rewatch 30 Years of Jason bro. I can’t wait for this film, I honestly don’t consider these to be remakes. They’re sequels that fit in somewhere. A resurgance is what it should be called, it’s recapping the first film and continuing the story of Jason.

I don’t like to label anyone a “true fan.” There are different rules for different people on what makes a true fan.
For example, I watched the original Halloween for the first time in almost a decade and decided that it is, perhaps, the worst in the franchise. Unless we are counting the Rob Zombie movies. Then I think his most recent was the worst. Most Halloween fanatics would say that I’m not a true fan.
I think that being loyal and at least seeing all of the movies you can with enthusiasm and the hope for greatness is what makes a true fan.
i think the snow idea has a lot of potential. think of the weapons alone. Shovel, snowblower, icicle!

This is great news, a nice late summer release and a week before my birthday what could be better than that ! I realize alot of people have complaints and issues with the remake and i have my subtle beefs but honestly, it’s a new Friday the 13th movie shot with the amazing technology they have these days and you’ll get to see it in a movie theater so i don’t know what’s better than that. While the remake wasn’t perfect& had it’s faults, i will always remember sitting in the theater on opening night and after the opening sequence, the screen went dark and the words “Friday the 13th” popped up and the entire audience ROARED and i got chills. That was worth the price of admission alone. I’ll take any kind of a F13 remake over another wack “Haunting” or Saw movie with lots of screams and bangs that make u leave the theater half deaf.
I don’t know what the writers and producers got up their sleeves but i would like to see a slightly darker and more suspenseful film than the remake was. The remake was good but a little too hacky and predictable for my tastes. I would like to see the new Part 2 pay more tribute to Parts 3 & 4 of the original series and in opposition of many fans i would loveeee to see this new Friday the 13th Pt 2 shot in 3D. I thought “My Bloody Valentine” was a pretty bad movie … but the 3D enhanced the fun of it. I thought the most recent installation of “Final Destination” was pretty good … but the 3D certainly enhanced the fun of it. I think having this new Friday film shot in 3D would help to ease the complaints of some fans and allow people to just enjoy the experience of the movie on a more entertainment-based & memorable level.
Regardless, i can’t wait to see this & the countdown is on.

Why can’t we have Final Chapter all over again? That is the best film in the entire series! Not to mention the scariest. So PD should want to try and re-capture the magic of the original four films since those are what made the series in the first damn place! I’d personally have no problem with going to see a Friday that film that prides itself on being just as good and just as dark as Final Chapter! I’m sorry if I seem really angry but I’m such a huge fan of the original four classics, especially Final Chapter.
I’m not saying it has to have the same plot or anything, I just would like it to have that same exact feel and mood. I want Jason in the shadows again, I want a rainstorm, I want POV shots, I want great stalk and chase scenes. And what does a guy gotta do to get some characters we actually would like to root for? I’m tired of seeing Jason in EVERY scene, I’m tired of rooting for Jason instead of the characters, I’m tired of the annoying “comedy”, and all the unneeded masturbation and blowjob jokes.
Atmosphere is important and I’m sure we’ll see it with the proper people onboard. However, I don’t think we will or should see the old POV shots. The Jason character has already been established and it would be pointless to go back to that style again. I do like the idea of a new director though. I want to see a classic director come back like Zito or McLoughlin. The Final Chapter, Jason Lives & 2024 are my favorites of the series.

I am a true fan and have been watching these movies for 25 years. I thought the reimaging was cool in its own way. Im just glad that after this long they are still pumping life into the franchise. I love the new Friday the 13Th and get really tired of hearing people pick on it for trivial reasons. I am going to take this post and give my view on each of these things. It’s not as much to pick on its original poster; but because you have put together a collection of things other people have been saying too.

I love Shannon and Swift. These guys have a fundamental understanding of the Franchise, aside maybe from the ‘Jason being afraid of water’ thing. I love their characterization of Jason that Jason really hasn’t had sense Part 2. From Part 3 onward Jason was just a symbol of untimely death; a new grim reaper. Any sort of true characterizing of him as a unique being went out the window with the the pillow case.

I was actually glad to hear some new music. Friday the 13Th is known more for its vocal affects than its score. The new movie did some more atmospheric things that Manfredini tends to shy away from in lue of more and more orchestral music.

Would be nice to see, but people pay money to see Jason stab people. Most people, now days, would feel disappointed and cheated out of their ticket price if they didn’t get 90 min of a guy in a hockey mask.

Not sure what you mean. I found Part 4 annoying myself, and many find that the best characters. I think that’s more in the eye of the beholder; so it’s really not something they can work on specifically as annoying to you and brilliant to someone else.

I love the comedy and funny one-liners. That’s the bread and butter that makes the Franchise from Part 5 onwards. After this many installments there has to be self-referential humor. Otherwise, it gets stale and boring fast. (To me anyway.)

This really isn’t a problem. People complain of this too much in horror. It’s become expected ever sense The Blair Witch Project.

Sometimes too much is cliché. It gets to a point where it tips off and announces every kill before it happens. I actually liked a lot how the new one hardly ever uses it, just enough to stay traditional, then allows the kills to be better placed.

I have always found Friday the 13Th characters to be likable. Also, most PEOPLE today are obnoxious carbon copies of each other. If your goal is to portray the realistic youth of today, they have to be cookie-cutter clones because that’s what your propagandized media and educational centers turn out.

Come on now, this has been common sense the first one, at different levels. “Goodness Bill, what should we do? Everyone is gone. I know, you go out into the woods alone and I’ll have a horrible nightmare of you dying and make a cup of joe!” People need to ‘check themselves before they wreck themselves’ as many of peoples criticisms could equally be leveled at any of the installments of the Franchise if you want to get technical.

It finally explains how he gets around camp so fast, give him a lair, and connect him with his Father better; if you read the comics.
22- We need a ‘you’re doomed’ type character who warns the victims!
That would be nice. No Ralph though, we had him. But a new prophet of doom would be welcomed.
23- Stop trying to get all fancy with story sub plots and get to the point! Stop trying to explain too much! We want to feel the terror again!
Many people complain these movies have little story and rely too much on shock, jump scares, and gore. It’s really hard to get some gore past the MPAA, jump scares become very predictable, and shock goes away, in a lot of cases, by the time you’re Part 13 of a Franchise. Story is what we have so we need to use it, not throw it out the window. People want detailed stories with dark atmosphere; as the new Batmans and Bonds prove.
24- ONE funny character! ONLY ONE!!!!!!!! And that one should not be too annoying, desperate and obnoxious.
I have always found Friday the 13Th characters to be likable. Also, most PEOPLE today are obnoxious carbon copies of each other. If your goal is to portray the realistic youth of today, they have to be cookie-cutter clones because that’s what your propagandized media and educational centers turn out. I love the comedy and funny one-liners. That’s the bread and butter that makes the Franchise from Part 5 onwards. After this many installments there has to be self-referential humor. Otherwise, it gets stale and boring fast. (To me anyway.)
25- Sex and weed are fine when it’s NOT OVER THE TOP! Girl massaging her boobs for attention…Too much. Guy masturbating to a woman in a magazine…LAME.
Sex and weed are what make Friday the 13Th Friday the 13Th. Cut that out and you’ve pissed off 97% of your demographic. We need a lot more drugs in the film, maybe Shrooms? And a lot more sex. Kids get sex online at home for free now via porn. We need hardcore sex, with lots of drugs, and LOTS of bloody deaths. The up the vagina kill they were going to have in Part 5 is the kind of stuff we need now to compete with SAW and porn if we want to stay on top. Friday the 13Th was the top name in shocking, gory, sex, drugs, and death. Now we’re lukewarm at best because we’re afraid to push the MPAA because we’re an established Franchise now and no-one wants to mess with the cash flow. We really need to kick it up a notch ‘bam’ if we want to be the taboo talk of the town again like we were circa 30 years ago. It’s taboo that got us on the map and we fell behind the oneupmanship game of escalation.
26- No heroic one liners like, “Go to Hell!”, “Die Bitch!” (not sure when they said those but those are examples of lame one liners lol)

Friday remake was as good as any of the Friday sequels. Def. excited about the news! Keep them Jason’s coming!!! Mears was great in the last one….would be cool if we get to see him with the bag over his head a bit more.. the opening for the remake was wicked! All i ask for is for some new toys for jason to play with.

I wonder if this whole snow thing is true. It’s a cool idea. I know Jason will take full advantage of killing people in the frozen lake. Smashing their head into it, freezing them in it, etc. I’m all up for seeing a different side of Crystal Lake. One thing that I hated about the remake was that to me personally that movie could’ve taken place anywhere. I didn’t feel like this was Jason’s area. He was just thrown into it. I would’ve loved the old feel back with the cabins, etc. Or at least more of it than that one. That being said too when they’ve done something different with the series, they tend to fuck it up. Hence, Jason Takes Manhattan, JGTH, & X. So hopefully if these 2 goons stay on to write the sequel I hope it’s good.
Oh & by the way, can they please create a new Crazy Ralph? Of all the things that let me down about the remake, I so wanted to see a new incarnation of Ralph. I’ll even take his cheesy dialogue.

f13ticket, How is having one female heroine sexist? If anything, it empowers women. I\’m gay, too but I don\’t necessarily agree with your statement that it\’s sexist. Also, you pretty much DID pick on the list that Stephanie created. 98% of what she said, you shot down and pretty much made it sound like you wanted a carbon copy of the dreadful remake we were presented with. Shannon and Swift made it that way. Get them the hell out of there and let someone else have their take on it. There\’s a reason why profits dropped so dramatically after the 1st week run. I can almost guarantee it that it\’s because the movie wasn\’t dark, nor very scary. It was cliche and didn\’t deliver the hype that Fuller tried to get us to believe it was. I\’d rather see suspense than some chick rubbing her tits and licking her lips, and I certainly don\’t see how people taking shrooms will improve the story in any way. The drug references in the original movie and its sequel were subtle compared to what was shown in the remake.

The things that I didn’t like about the latest flick were pretty much the things that I didn’t like about most of the other Friday sequels. The over-the-top/overblown stereotypes simply take away from the horror/suspense mood of the films and make them “campy.” This is an element that has existed in pretty much every Friday flick, and I’ve never understood why somebody hasn’t sat back and thought, “Hey, maybe if we made the characters in the film as serious as the overall theme and plot of the movie, a broader audience might take the film as a whole seriously.” For the next one, I would love to see a dark, serious Friday the 13th, with characters that the audience cares about.

My problem with the remake is the same as what alot of other people on here are saying… I was hoping that it would have similar atmosphere and characters as the original 3 or 4 friday flicks did, and I was totally let down. To me, the older fridays had suspense and realistic, likeable characters. While the remake seemed like a cross bewteen, one of those politically correct teen WB One Tree Hill/90210 type of shows and the Texas Chainsaw Massacre Remake. And that sort of thing just isn’t my cup of tea. lol… I really hope the sequel to the friday remake turns out alot better.

I’m really pleased that there’ll be a sequel to the remake. I thought it was a good horror film, not the best in the F13 series, but with a character like Jason, who we’re all so familiar with and who’s had so many “reboots” (I consider anything from Part 6 onwards a reboot) it’s very hard to please all of the fans all of the time. But at least the last couple of F13’s have actually tried to be a little more consistent with the look of Jason (unlike Parts 7, 8 and 9 – which, as a nerd-type, annoy me, JASON DOESN’T WEAR A BLUE BOILER SUIT!!! THAT’S ROY BURNS or MICHAEL MYERS). I agree about the winter in Crystal Lake being a good idea – it’s a theme that me and my little friends used to play using starwars toys in the 80’s and it was always fun, and leaves a lots of room for sequels too. But whatever WB does with this film, I’m sure I’ll enjoy it more than any of the other slasher films around at the moment. My dream F13 Part 2 would have to include the following: Harry Manfredini, Tom Savini, Betsy Palmer, Derek Mears as Non-Zombie Jason, Jason the Stalker in the Shadows until the last reel, Unmasking Scene, Maybe Tommy Jarvis (but he’d have to die) and maybe a return to Higgins’ Haven. I’d love to see Jason rampage through that barn again. Lots of other things that shouldn’t be in there, but as long as they give us lots of atmosphere, rain and a New England setting then I’ll be there for opening night!
