‘Srigala’ Brings ‘Friday The 13th’ To Indonesia

Everyone knows that Friday the 13th inspired countless ripoffs and began the slasher boom in Hollywood. The number of films that were created were inspired by numerous plot points created by Victor Miller and Sean Cunningham’s film. As prevalent today as back in the early 1980’s, Hollywood is known for the rinse and repeat mentaility when it comes to films producing at the box office. There is nothing unique about that fact. However, what about the foriegn markets.

We were emailed a few days ago by site visitor John Fears in regards to an Indonesian film that has striking similarities to the original Friday the 13th. The 1981 Indonesian film Srigala does not necessarily follow the plot of a deranged Mrs. Voorhees avenging her son’s death as this foreign gem has treasure hunters and speed boat chases. However, according to The Blog Of John Fears, there are plenty of campers picked off one by one, a killer revealed at the end of the film and the requisite jump scare with a familiar look and feel where the Final Girl is pulled into the water from her boat.

The film looks fun, if not just for entertainment value. So, if interested, take a look at John Fear’s blog and read more about the movie. The Imdb page is worthless for information, so along with the aforementioned blog, also visit the Ninja Dixon blog as well. Big thanks to John for letting us know!

  5. Go back and look at several of the 1980’s slasher films and you’ll see similarities to Friday the 13th. Bits and pieces of the plot, character types and scare scenes are copied, over and over. Good article, by the way.

  6. And now it’s time for me to start my desperate search the internet over for a free download of Srigala…
