Friday the 13th Part 2 Press Book
I posted about press books and more specifically the book for the original back in November. Now I thought we could take a look at the press book for Part 2. Besides the different size ads for print advertising and actor mini-biographies that are printed inside, Paramount also includes the full synopsis for the film. In fact giving almost a scene by scene account of the entire film!
One bit of information I found interesting from this press book is that in the synopsis they mention the following:
Friday the 13th Part 2, in which a avenging demonic horror preys on the couselors of Lake Region, which borders the same lake as the infamous “Camp Blood” where counselors had been destroyed five years earlier.
In this book, Jason is always referred to as the “Demonic Horror” and never by his actual name, which I suppose is fitting because Jason wasn’t a big name at the time. But the one thing I wanted to point out is that the book mentions the counselors of Lake Region and that they border Crystal Lake. In the movie, Ted mentions that they were going to be on the same lake as Camp Blood. So at some point the movie was originally going to be set at an adjacent lake or Paramount’s people just confused some facts? I found that interesting.
Hey, isn’t that Warrington Gillette jumping through the window to grab Amy Steele? Haha.
…and I’m guessing there is probably no mention of Steve Dash in the press kit, right?
Actually, Steve Dash is very much mentioned in this book. He is credited as Jason Stunt Double, but we all pretty much know the story behind the credits and why they were handed out the way they were.
Im interested in knowing how Part 2 was perceived before it launched. Was there speculation as to a killer? any hype at all? I wasnt around to know.

I couldn’t tell you what the hype was like when this movie came out as i was about 5 and don’t really remember. I do know that a lot of people were confused as Mrs. Voorhees was already dead. If memory serves, the book Crystal Lake Memories goes into some details about the decision to make a Part 2 and what the story line involved.
