She Lives! Mummified Mrs. Voorhees From Part 2

By now, most people know that a big part of the confusing ending for Part 2 was due to the fact that the original ending was scrapped before the film was released theatrically. In the original ending, after Ginny is wheeled into the ambulance yelling for Paul and the camera then zooms in on the mummified head of Mrs. Voorhees, the eyes open and the rotting head smiles. This was edited out of the movie by the filmmakers as they felt it was too hokey and cheesy. The smiling Mrs. Voorhees was meant to signify that Paul was indeed dead. Now decades of speculation were created because of that edit.

Since we may never see the edited footage of the Mrs. Voorhees head with a smile, why not take a look at the actress that wore the makeup for that ill-fated ending. With makeup applied she would then fit her head through a hole, giving the effect of just the head itself laying on top of the table. So, at least now we can get a glimpse of what that scene may have looked like, but there;s always the hope that the edited scene will appear some day!

  1. I would have liked to see this original ending, even though it concluded in a good way, this would have been great to see. (Maybe we will get this in a newer BETTER boxset via dvd, or Blu-Ray.) Any word on who the actress was JF? This ending would make more sense then Mrs. Voorhees (With her head intact) jumping out of the lake at Chris in the final moments of Part 3.

  2. Please tell me i’m not the only one who see’s a “thumbs up” behind her head lol anyone?

  3. Any word on who the actress was JF?

Corey, the actress’s name is Connie Hogan.

  4. TheWafflenator, that’s a thumbs up and good to go. ;)

  5. That’s pretty cool, never seen any pics of this. Looks like Carl Fullerton just used that prosthetics sculpt and turned it into a prop head, as it retains the overall design of the screen used head.

  6. If the “Scarecrow” from -The Wizard of Oz- and “Leatherface” from -TCM- had a kid, this is exactly what it would look like.

    Creepy.

  7. Wow, that is pretty creepy. Thanks for posting this photo, I’ve never seen it before. That’s what I love about this site…it seems like every day there’s a little nugget of information that surprises me.

  8. awesome to hear this. i never knew about this. would’ve been cool to see. hopefully someday we will.

  9. long before I ever heard about this edited scene, I always thought in the shot at the end (when they pause it) that the head look really realistic, especially around the eyes.

  10. Deuce,

I always thought that too! It always looked like a real person to me.

  11. They always take out the cool stuff and leave us with the CHEEZ!!.!

  12. I saw that ending… I grew up in Quebec and I taped the movie from a local tv station showing and it had the ending where the head opens its eyes and smiles. in fact I think I might still have that old tape somewhere lying around; not really sure if its on beta max or vhs but I’m pretty sure i still have it somewhere; the movie is in french though if I’m not mistaken. I always remembered the ending each time I have seen it since because I always expect the head to open its eyes and smile and ofcourse since then every version I have seen has the theatrical ending with this footage removed. anyways… just thought I would let you guys know that I have seen it and while it was pretty cool it didn’t really add that much to the movie other than one extra little jump the first time you see it and aren’t expecting it.

Try to find that if you can, there may be other things in the film that are different as well, you might have something valuable there…

  14. I think it would have been an interesting ending. I think Jason was trying to bring her back. Hence this ending and her popping out of the lake. As well as him being easily confused by people looking like and or pretending to be her.

  15. CrystalLakeMike,
It would be great if you could dig that tape out and get a few screen grabs. Good luck and let us know!

  16. That wouldve been a better ending.

  17. sound Scary like shit, like the nes game.
When i was younger and first time saw friday part 2, i think that something like that will happen

  18. Was the “orginal ending” with momma opening her eyes and smiling ever shown anywhere? I am sure that I saw a version where she opened her eyes once years ago. I used to look for it whenever I rewatched part 2, but confused when I never saw it. I am sure I saw it once… Did USA ever show the scene while showing part 2?

  19. I thought about that last night and I swear I’ve seen that scene to on a tv version. Maybe It’s something I thought I did when I was little and forgot about it all these years. As for te “thumbs up”, yeah noticed that to, It looks like a Mickey Mouse glove giving the “ok” for the shoot.

  20. Very cool that the gentleman above form the Francophonic part of Canada says he has a tape. I dig Quebec culture and have two good friends from there I talk to via e-mail. Reguardless if it did somehow exist, I would love very much to see it.

However let us not get our hopes up, as we all know we always look back years later and believe we’ve all saw something years ago when we were much younger, and then we all come to find out from Blu-Ray or standard definition DVD looking back that were were gravely mistaken. Because as far as I know, that scene with the actress playing Mrs. Voorhees from Part 2 (1981) was edited out as we all know, and the footage would have to be in Paramount Studios vault (hopefully NOT thrown out like Parts V and VII’s were, or destroyed in a vault fire like the master copy of The Legend of Bille Jean was ect). And I can’t believe (and I’m just being a playful tease here; no need to get all bent out of shape) that many of you crazy kids apparently don’t own a copy of the Crystal Lake Memories book, as her photo and the whole Part 2 deleted final shot/ending story is told, and the actress–Connie Hogan–is shown in a nice behind-the-scenes photo.

Just noting. ;) And aside from a ton of accidental typeographical errors, the book as we all know by now is a damn fine read, especially about the behind-the-scenes controversaries on the shoots of Parts 2, IV (The Final Chapter), V (A New Beginning) as well as some drama from the overrated Part VII (he New Blood). I honestly had no idea virtually all the male leads in that were members of the gay community. Easily Part V, Part 4 and 2 are the best chapters to read behind-the-scenes drama about, as well as Part 3 (or 3-D if you wish to be one of the few who call it so), since thats probably my absolute favorite of the series, flaws and all (I love the Steve Miner directed sequels the best, followed by The Final Chapter and the now legendary rip-off that is Part 1 and the super-sleazy and piss poorly acted Part V for guilty pleasures those two are). But the book is well worth owning and isn’t much on Amazon.

Just be fore-warned: Unlike the enjoyable, fluffy documentary His Name Was Jason, you’ll get the real dirt & grit on the series, and honestly many of these are of course cash-in movies, albiet formulaic and we all know & love’em for many quirks and eccentricities and how they frightened up when we were young, but a lot of the stars (of course) took them as they were starting out or only hadn’t done much at the respective time of filming, and only wanted it on they’re resume and audition reel or for the pay, and must don’t look back at’em too fondly. But hey, such is the general horror/exploitation old school Slasher film sub-genre and it’s history with actors and retired non-actors.

Also the actress was supposed to smile AND wink at us (the audieance) in order to show that Paul was in fact indeed recently deceased at the hands of Jason. They explain it in the book. Hope it helps.

  21. I think it is quite possible the gentleman from Quebec has seen the other ending. Movies in the 70s and 80s were often produced with different cuts in anticipation of time-lapse issues when aired on network television- Halloween and The Outsiders come to mind as films that were extended with additional scenes for their television presentations…both have since been released on DVD with those scenes put back into the films but these scenes were never shown on the big screen or earlier beta/vhs/dvd releases.

  22. tommy_jarvis_guy,
You are definitely on the up in terms of Friday knowledge, but not everyone had the opportunity to purchase the CLM book back in 2024. Yes the story about the scene was in the book, but the above image was defintintely not in there. And that was more the point of this blog, was to introduce the image to the fans that had not seen the image or did not know anything about the scene that was removed from the movie.

I hope we do get to see the scene at some point, but for now, the image above gives fans that are nostalgic and passionate about the series something to hang there hat on.

  23. I read about her supposed to have opening her eyes too, that’s creepy. Also, that severed head of Pamela is my favorite out of all her severed heads. It just looks more creepy to me.

  24. Hey again Jasonsfury my good man! Oh no problem!

By the way: I used to post here a few months back as captain_brandon, and I decided to simply leave for a bit once odd cyber bullies followed me here, as you might have noticed. Anyway I’m back and hopefully here to stay. :)

Oh and indeed, as I noted above (“and I’m just being a playful tease here; no need to get all bent out of shape”), it was all meant a bit playful and tongue in cheek, as I chouldn’t believe as it’s been several years now, and many simply still don’t own a copy. I just wanted to enterject that the price has gone down on Amazon where I shop, and now would be a great time to purchase one.

And indeed re-looking back over I can see now that there is indeed a very different image of her from the book (I had to run real quick after you posted to see for myself once again). As a matter of fact on page 67, I had apparently forgotten, since it’s just a standard definition DVD still from the movie, and not from that fine photo above! I must’ve seen that above-mentioned photo probably on scabboy’s site (www.scabboy.net) or somethin’. My bad! lol Stay cool, and thanks once again.

  25. I’m going home to Mtl this weekend to visit family (i.e. where my old Beta and VHS tapes are). I will take a look and get some screen caps. Don’t really know how to post them but if someone can walk me through it it would be my pleasure. I don’t remember any other differences in the movie but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any. If I find it I will try to transfer the video to my computer and maybe upload the ending if someone wants to see it. I’m pretty sure I’ll be able to find it so I should have some news on Monday.

  26. Sounds awesome, CrsyatlLakeMike! Merci becoupe! :D

  27. Well I have to back CrystalLakeMike on this one…I am from Québec City and I happen to also have that memory of Mrs. Voorhees smiling at the end.

So what I’m going to do this weekend is visit this store in Québec city called \Audio/Vidéo DG\. There speciality is selling old VHS and Beta tapes and most of what they have in stock are French versions. I might be lucky and find a copy.

Oh here’s a little trivia: in the French version of Part 1, Jason is called Jacky. Then when Part 2 came out, the opening (the recap of Part 1) was redubbed and Jason was called Jason. If you have the French track on your DVD, you can hear it for yourself. Just skip to the climax and you’ll hear Mrs. Voorhees talk to her son Jacky :)

  28. i think back then in the 80s it would of confused the audience!i like the ending now, makes you wonder if he lived or not.and if I’m not mistaken they did the same scene in Jason Vs Freddy.Freddy winks at the end, only to hint off for a sequel!

  29. That would be amusing seeing her smile, saying Paul is dead!! Love it!!!

  30. I thought it was never shot? I’d like to see it but at the same time I’m glad they didn’t do that. I always assumed Paul died.

  31. to tommy_jarvis_guy, who were the male leads in the f13th movies that were gay? I know that Tim Mcbride was and died of aids but who else and what were some of the controversaries. I have the his name was jason dvd and listened to those. Very interesting!

  32. Any word from my friends to the north??????

  33. CrystalLakeMike actually posted in another blog that he found the tape and is now trying to find a way to capture the images from the VHS for us to see!

  34. No way! So it has been verified…wow.

  35. Hello im new here and i too am VERY curious to see the alternate ending from Friday 2…any luck with capturing the images?

  36. Jasonsfury, do you think you could post that video in in a completly new post when you get it from CrystalLakeMike.. That would be awesome. (So that nobody misses it) Thanx :)

  37. If I hear from him, I will post on the website here!

  38. Fingers crossed that it is the unseen ending…

  39. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find a VHS copy of Part 2 at Audio-Vidéo DG. Best of luck to CrystalLakeMike. When I have time, I’ll visit other video stores which still have VHS racks.

  40. [...] She Lives! Mummified Mrs. Voorhees From Part 2 [...]

  41. It’s funny because I can remember seeing the unrated double impalement death on VHS as a kid. I think it was on my VHS copy but have since lost it. But when I bought the boxset 5 years ago expecting to see that scene I was disappointed. It was definetely brutal watching Sandra trying to push Jeff’s body up and that look on her face, I’ll never forget that. I thought maybe the boxset was censored. I know I’m not remembering it differently or hallucinating. Anyone else agree with me? And I also saw part 7 uncut on cable here in the U.S. about 11 or 12 years ago. I think it was the summer of ‘98. I have a good memory. I distinctly remember seeing Mrs. Shepherd’s death uncut in the version I saw along with the sleeping bag death and even the fisherman at the end! I know I’m not crazy. And again, I thought the boxset was censored. And Paramount claims to have lost the footage? My fatass. If you had/still have the VHS copy of part 7 the original uncut sleeping bag death is present. So why couldn’t they take a print from that VHS copy and re-insert it back into the film? They didn’t just lose it all. That’s the excuse they come up with though. “all of it was destroyed in 92″ so why do I remember seeing these scenes back when I was an early teen back in ‘97 and ‘98…5 and 6 years AFTER ‘92? Someone’s feeding us a bunch of crap. I could’ve been sitting on a gold mind if my dumbass just would’ve taped it! Stupid stupid!!! Ughh. Haha. Am I the only one? I can’t be. Somebody has to remember it as well.

  42. I’m willing to submit to a polygraph test if anyone doesn’t believe me. The first time I bought the 1-8 series on DVD was the boxset. Now I own the Deluxe Editions. So if I remembered these scenes before buying the boxset It can’t possibly be my imagination.

  43. You can guys can e-mail me at randy3419@yahoo.com if you want to keep in touch.

  44. Just wondering what ever happened with CrystalLakeMike’s Part 2 VHS footage? Did it turn out to be the ending as we know it?

  45. JF, did you not hear from CrystalLakeMike again?

  46. There were a few people, believe it or not, that claimed to have this scene on tape. One person did say they found it on VHS, but did not know how to transfer it to digital form to post on the Internet. I think that was another person besided CrystalLakeMike.

I believe Mike emailed later to say that he did not have the scene.

  47. This topic of the original/alternate ending for Part 2 makes me recall a slightly alternate ending to Part 1 that I viewed on a TV broadcast in the late 80’s. Instead of the fade to black and end credits after the last “tranquil” scene of the lake, the first part of the credits (I think it was through the cast list only) played/was super-imposed over the image of the lake. And then fade to black and the remainder of the credits. I have never seen this variation since.
