The Ultimate ‘Dick Warlock’ Hockey Mask

By now, alot of fans are aware that one hockey mask was used during the filming of Friday the 13th Part 3, Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter and Friday the 13th: A New  Beginning. This mask truly is a holy grail for collectors and fans alike. Well, that holy grail currently resides in the custody of Hollywood stuntman/actor Dick Warlock. Yes, that is the same Dick Warlock that portrayed The Shape in the 1981 film, Halloween 2. What a lucky person, indeed. Not only does he have the honor of playing Michael Myers on film, he holds in his hand franchise movie history spanning three Friday the 13th films.

Recently, jasonlivessince1980 completed his ultimate homage to that one hockey mask and titled it, ‘Ultimate Dick Warlock Hockey Mask’. Take a look at his pics below and pay special attention to the comparison shot with the screen used mask on the right and the replica mask on the left.

  5. I think Jason’s replica hock is awesome and just about as close as you’re going to get to the real deal. However, I would be at a loss for words if I was somehow lucky enough to own the screen used mask.

  7. thanks everyone, i’m going to make a few modifications and take some comparison shots that are closer to my reference photo prob in a few weeks. Thanks to Jasonsfury for featuring my hock work!

  8. Dick Warlocks a cool guy, Im glad the mask is in good hands.

  9. Ah, that is very cool. Truely. But I just wanted to say that in the Blu Ray for Part 3, Richard Brooker stated that the original Part 3 mask was NOT given away dispite both him and Mr. Zerner politely asking for it, and that the original mask wilthered away sadly on Martin Becker’s backyard before he finally passed away.

Sadly, the same Part 3 people made the Part 4 hocks because they wanted to use the same mold for them, and I believe Part V was made fresh with the David Miller special FX team. So hope that helps. So that would mean that Mr. Warlock would have an original Part V screen-used hock only. And NOT a Parts 3 & IV as well. Just wanted to clear that one up a bit. ;)

But seriously: Very cool hock made by Jasonlivessince1980 up there. Awesome work!

  11. Tommy Jarvis Guy thanks for your comment. I wanted to clarify though that your information is only partly correct.

There are two masks seen onscreen in part 3– one we commonly call the “hero” is seen through most of the film, the other “stunt” mask seen during the axe chop at the end and in the scene where he picks up Chili, was the mask later used during all of part 4, and some of the hallucination scenes in part 5. The original “hero” mask, which had somewhat smaller eye cuts, was the mask that ended up with Marty Becker and was later thrown out. The “stunt” mask was given to Dick Warlock by the FX team on part 5.

So the part 4 mask was not made brand new for the film, it was an old part 3 mask that already had the axe cut in, and Tom Savini got ahold of, beat and weathered, etc.

The part 4 mask, used during part 5, was the only hock that appears in part 5 that was not made for the film. Some people say that they were recasted from the part 4 mask, I’ve never heard a reliable source on that, so I’m not sure.

And yes, Dick Warlock is a cool guy, every time I do one of these I email him the photos, lol.
