Video Review Saturday: Friday the 13th 1980 Press Kit

One of my favorite things to collect, and one of my original reasons for beginning the hobby of collecting Friday the 13th memoribilia, are press kits. These kits are sent to media outlets to help promote the film before it is released in theaters across the country. Press kits like this do not get prodiced anymore. Press kits now are produced electronically, unless special occasions arise. Electronic press kits today are normally delivered on a small USB flash drive or by DVD.

Nothing beats the physical kits, however. Take a look at the video below and let us know your thoughts and if you collect these items as well!

  1. I would love to get my hands on some press kits, but my only concerns are that i don’t know what is supposed to be in them. That would be a cool addition to the fridaypedia by someone who knows the contents of the press kits.

  2. Enjoyed the video. Looks like that press kit is in pretty good shape, considering its age. Definitely a great collectible.

  3. I placed th first bet on this kit on ebay last week. but i wasnt that excited to bid so much for it as it was sold for :)
Anyway congratulations with the press kit

  4. oh it wasnt this kit… my bad. but the kit that was sold on ebay last week went for $107

Yea, that is the tricky part as there is nothing out there that I have seen that tells what is supposed to be in a press kit. It is a matter of looking at enough auctions and such to realize what is supposed to be in the folder. Normally, there should be at least photos, a booklet and also a letter to the media outlet that the press kit is sent to. Somtimes, in the case of the Part 8 kit, there are extras like the postcard.

I did see that auction and that is actually pretty close to the average for the press kit. That is why I was surprised when I got my Part 1 kit for somewhere in the $40 range!

  6. Sorry about that pitshit but i was the one who forked over the final price of $114.35 for that part 1 press kit last week on ebay. This was only the second time i had ever seen this kit.The other time was on this site. All i need now is a part 2,9,F.vs.J & a 2024 kit.I also think this kind of stuff should be added to the Fridaypedia with pictures and the stuff inside for fans and collecters to see. Thanks again to jasonsfury for sharing this info to us die hard fans.
