Jason Voorhees Grudgematch: Hellbound vs Versus
After typing the title for this, the end of the title seems a bit redundant….. Hmm. Well, last week’s grudgematch was no where near as close as the previous week’s matchups. However, ol’ Roy gave it his all, and for not even being Jason, he garnered a lot of votes! Hillbilly Jason just got a little disrespected within the last week! We will have to see how he fares in his next matchup. Let’s see how the fans vote for this new matchup. It should be interesting indeed!
Hellbound vs Versus
Most fans are upset that the Jason as we know him only appeared for minutes in Jason Goes To Hell. Then many fans wish that Jason Voorhees from Freddy vs Jason only had a few minutes of screen time. So, this matchup should be a great equalizer for the fans! Which of these Jason characters would eventually survive and keep their hockey mask with dignity?

Hellbound: Shovel
Versus: Freddy’s Glove

Jason from “Goes to Hell.” (Hellbound)
I really wish there was more of that Jason in the movie. He looked heavily infected… I wanted to see something pop and shoot Jason-pus everywhere.
Ah well.
Personally, I liked Jason Vs. Freddy. But that Jason was one of my least favorites…
Hellbound 101%
HELLBOUND!!!!!!!!!!!
Hellbound
Versus
versus
My vote is for Hellbound Jason, even though he had less, screentime than the Versus Jason, he was a more dominant, violent and better looking Jason.
The versus Jason seemed kind of dull and docile to me for the most part, he was lacking the ferocity the Hellbound Jason had, still think it would of been a smarter idea to have Kane Hodder back as Jason in FvJ, but noooooooooooo they wanted a taller guy who wasnt as bulky. >_>
Maybe I need to rewatch VS but i liked Jason in that film.
VS gets my vote, he killed freddy.
Definately Jason goes to Hell…Great looks, and great performance by Kane…The Jason character played by Ken, was just awfull..he was way too slow, I didn’t like the way he was resurrected, and also didn’t like his looks..that stupid jacket, and those big shoes…
No it’s defenitely Kane Hodders version from Hell that made me enjoy the little moments he was on screen. By the way..Jason goes to Hell is still one of my favorites..It had good acting, nice gore, and humor…the opening sequence was original and the ending was too.
Adam Marcus, if you’re out there…great job man!
Hell Jason, when Ken tries to do the famous head turn in fvj, it was so robotic you weren’t sure if it was a real person or not. Sorry Ken but Kane is just plain better.
Kane is overrated! He always puffs his arms out like a body-builder. He makes Jason look less like a Jersey Devil, and more like a Jersey Shore. “Ey yo, I’m gonna stab ya wit a machete ova hea!”
VS Jason was pretty cartoony, but he looked just like Karloff’s Frankenstein with the big boots and jacket. VS gets my vote.
goes to hell
I really, REALLY want to vote for the versus Jason, mainly because I thought he was more of an imposing figure than the Hellbound Jason, but FvJ made him more into the family friendly type of Godzilla of the ’70s vs films. I was waiting for Jason to walk away while Jason Ritter and the girl-whose-name-escapes-me to wave and say goodbye to Jason as he walks of to Toho Movie themes.
My vote begrudgenly goes to Hellbound.
Hellbound get’s my vote JasonFury. I know this match just started but I think we know the final answer to this one aready…
That style of Jason always stood out and made me go insane when I was little watching it over and over again-not necessarily for the plot itself, but the way he looked, and the fight with Steven.
jasontyo Apr 22nd, 2024 at 11:45 am Maybe I need to rewatch VS but i liked Jason in that film.
VS gets my vote, he killed freddy.
*Note, sadly Jason really didn’t kill Freddy-Monica Keena(laurie actually finished the job)
Hellbound.
JGTH all the way
and as we seen in pt8
we all know that Kane can kill Ken
I say Hellbound. As much as I didn\’t like that movie, the first time we see him, it scared the crap outta me in the theater. He just came out of nowhere after that chick. Jason from VS was okay, but very weak, and kinda of a pansy. When did he become afraid of water? He\’s been killing victims in the Lake for many years. One of the best finales, Part 6,has him in the lake pursuing Tommy. If this were tournament format, it would all come down to Jason Lives or New Blood. Those were my faves, although, I really like sackhead Jason in the remake.
Versus
Hellbound!JGTH was an insane fun movie, which is what makes one of my top favorites. VS is just dumb. Even a person possessed by the “Jason spirit” is still better than VS.
My vote is Versus.
Honestly, JGTH was a horrible look for Jason. He looks like rotting meat in blue clothes. The mask was the only cool thing about him. The weird grunting and the stupid demon worm. To top it off, the whole movie is just a rip off of The Hidden. If I could wipe one Friday movie off the face of the earth, this would be it.
Nothing against anyone’s opinions, but I really hate JGTH.
versus for me!!
GOES TO HELL AL THE WAY !!! HOW ABOYT JASON X VS ,,?? LOL JASON X WOULD KILL EVER JASON FROM 1 TO VS HAHAH
Hellbound Jason has My vote. Ken Kirzinger was just terrible as Jason. He may have been the tallest, but hes also the worst. JGTH sucked not because of Jasons look or strength, but His absence through most of the movie just was like New Line gave us all the finger. Kane Hodder is one of my 2 favorite Jasons (the other being Ted White). But to settle this topic, lets think back to a little film called FT13th pt 8 Jason Takes Manhattan. The scene where Jason bursts into the diner, and all of a sudden this real big dude comes from behind the counter and is about to step up to Jason. But as we all know, Jason throws Him against a mirror with brute strength. Well, that Man was Ken Kirzinger who also is stunt cordinator for part 8. And Jason, the great Kane Hodder. Case closed.
Question:
Was it really Ken’s fault, or Ronny Yu’s fault, that Jason was lacking in Freddy Vs. Jason?
I believe it to be more Yu’s fault than Ken’s. Yu wanted the slow, turtlish Jason… I think Ken did fine with what limited oppertunity he had.
Agree or disagree?
Hellbound…mainly because I’m disappointed in Ken Kirzinger for doing the parody of Jason (Mason) in Stan Helsing. I think it showed a lack of respect for the whole franchise. Not the movie, because it was pretty funny, but to be the icon and trash it by making the character stupid is just not cool.
That was pretty brutal. I sort of agree with you on that point.
Hellbound gets my vote, In my opinion Jason look in JGTH was the best, he looked really unvulnerable, strong and ferocious, he was a beast in that movie is a shame he only appeared a few minutes
HELLBOUND gets my vote. when i was a kid i didnt really like the bubble head look, but with time I actually find it really cool and the look kinda grew on me. I like the concept of the mask fused to his head. I associate the bubbleness to perhaps being underwater for a while and the body bloats up.
just my 2 cents
Hellbound.
Hellbound takes it by a landslide
Go to Hell Hellbound.
Versus.
Jason Goes to Hell is my all time favorite look! So (Hellbound) gets my vote!
Hellbound all the way!
hellbound easy!!!!!!! and as for wiping any friday movie off the face of the earth thats gotta be jason x!!! that film makes me wanna take a big old mango sized crap right on the dvd lol
And you know, ever since New Line bought JV, it’s kinda funny how they destroyed his character. “Quite honestly, we were jealous of Sean and Paramount” <—what Robert Shaye had said about the Friday franchise before buying it out. What better way to take your jealously out on JV the way he was treated in FVJ
I like the look of the “VS” Jason better but I really wish I could go with the “hellbound” Jason, but really he was not in the movie that much, but I think that “hellbound” Jason was more “brutal” for what little time he had on screen in Jason goes to Hell. So my vote goes for Versus Jason.
i like fvj way better the jgth but jason is just plan fuckin awesome in jason goes to hell even though the movie sucked
so im goin with hellbound
Hellbound…terrible movie overall, but FvJ version was, as someone said earlier, very Frankenstein-like. It really shows how Yu knew nothing about the series, and what Jason fans would want to see out of Jason in this long awaited matchup. I don’t think it’s Ken’s fault that his rendition of Jason turned out the way it did. I blame the director…we all waited forever to see this, and aside from the last 15 minutes, it blew goats.
Hellbound
Versus Jason.
Hellbound Jason was to weak and brittle. He was still healing from that toxic slime, so his body was completely vulnerable to attacks. Versus Jason was well preserved and even though his organs were exposed, he regenerates much faster, giving him a vital edge; something Hellbound does not have yet.
Hellbound was easily torn apart and lacked the strength himself to fight. Versus Jason, although slower, was incredibly strong and able to take enormous amounts of damage.
Final vote: Versus Jason
Versus Jason for me. I hate the Hellbound Jason, ’cause Jason wasn’t suppose to be some demon that take over people’s body. Not to mention I hate the meatball head & the fact Jason is hardly in the film. I just like Versus Jason better.
And Hoss Vegas, I don’t think Ken disrespect Jason or the franchise for playing a parody. It just him having fun, nothing more. What wrong with doing a parody? People just need to learn to take a joke & not anything seriously like that film. And they made him stupid in that film? But isn’t that the same for some of the other characters too? Again, playing a parody isn’t a sign of disrespect like you think.
I vote Hellbound. The vs look was just wrong and a complete lack of respect to Friday The 13th as a franchise. No one is gonna tell me that the only reason that Kane wasn’t cast is the fact that he would have looked WAY too imposing compared to Englund’s scrawny Freddy.I’m not going to go into detail why the vs look was wrong as other blogger’s have covered it already.Even Kane himself knew what was going on.I believe that his quote on vs Jason was something like “i guess they wanted a scrawny little bitch” in regards to New Line’s snub of not casting himself.I’ll end this rant by asking this, would New Line treat Freddy in such a manner?NO,i didn’t think so……………………………KI,KI,KI,MA,MA,MA.
Sorry, but in all that pent up aggression over New line’s mishandling of vs Jason i forgot to mention how cool the JGTH Jason looked in that movie.Shame about the limited screen time though.(Hey it was a New Line movie after all).
NW, I love parody. I just don’t think I would take on an iconic role and then parody it later. I mean, I didn’t know it was him till the credits started. No harm done to me.
I think Kane and Ken have done excellent jobs doing Jason, and are huge in the stunt industry. I keep seeing movies where Ken’s been the stunt coordinator or done stunts.
Let’s all remember that Hodder was the stunt coordinator for Leatherface 3. Not too proud of Ken myself (only b/c he never really got good roles, and that’s the directors fault. I only really know of him as the dishwasher/cook in part 8, VS. Jason, and even worse; the backwoods inbred with the bow/arrow in Wrong Turn 2.<—indeed a "wrong turn" for Ken.
On a little sidenote; if Jackie does real well as Freddy, I-if they’d ever do another years from now- would like to see (Haley)Freddy VS. (Mears) Jason. It would be a lot more brutal, and they are a bit vicious today.
