Shooting Locations: The Diner, ‘A New Beginning’
Slowly, but surely, the shooting locations for Friday the 13th: A New Beginning are being discovered. A few months back we interviewed the owner of the ranch where the majority of the film was shot. However, there were a few other locations used for the film and one such location was the Diner where the pride of the Unger Institute of Mental Health, Billy, goes to pick up Lana. Well, a visitor named Robert emailed in some fantastic pictures from the diner from which he just visited recently.
Robert mentions that the diner has not changed much since 1985 and I am inclined to agree. Using the images he posted, I was able to find the location of the diner. The Diner is located at: 30354 Mulholland Hwy, Cornell, CA 91301. Check out the pics below and make sure to visit Robert’s blog where he visits shooting locations for all sorts of films!
The diner scene has always been one of my favorites from that film. I love Billy’s dialogue! “And the forecast is…cloudy in the mountains, sunny in the valley, and snow flurries up yer nose!”. You’re right, Jason…that diner looks almost exactly the same.
“It’s Showtime!”
Very cool! I’ll forever have a little soft-spot in my heart for this one. It honestly hasn’t aged that well, but it is still one of my last favorites of the early Paramount-era that I prefer, back when the series was still old school style Slasher/Exploitation films, as opposed to barely R-rated more \Monster Features\ with the occasional throat slashing and tit shot.
But I would give it a solid \C-\ on my own Friday movie review scale. And it DOES have it’s moments. I just feel that many like the good ole’ boys of deadpit.com and others like it a lot more then me, as I used to champion this one a lot more when I was younger. It’s mostly the over all inane sotry, some dialogue problems as well as some general (ahem) \acting\ moments (or lack there of, obviously) that sort of really irk me, as well as a lot of story elements about Roy Burns revenge on his son that never really made sence (anyone else notice that the man who really killed Joey–Victor Faden, Joey’s fellow Pinehurst patient–never was killed by Roy after all was said & done? Always found that SO odd that the film maker’s let him go.
Back on topic now: Got to say I also always apprechiate modern age ‘shooting location’ digital camera shots. If one fan like me stops to think about it, it really IS cool that places like official sites and the IMDB boards allow us all to up-load much higher quality pics then old school Poleroids as e-mail attachments to webmasters, as well as general social networking sites. Us old school genre fans at the best if I may be allowed to pat us all on the back collectiveally.
Oh and again VERY cool pics! That nice \greasy spoon diner\ type place Cornell, California actually looks like a decent lace to eat (even if I can close my eyes and imagine all of the cockroaches crawling around that place late at night *lol*). Interesting looking at the fifth photo posted (counting down) as it appears to pretty much be the same from the shooting in the late fall of ’84 a few months before the film’s release. Except for of course more modern booth coushins being installed over the years, everything appears to be quite the same from the time of shooting!:D Even the the hardwood bench for costumers who wanna eat up at the counter apears to have remained un-touched.
Pretty cool once again. But notice from the angle we never saw that there appears to be like a small bar & gambling machine room attached to the main restaurant. Interesting. Never noticed that before today.
Wow, awesome find. More and more info is coming together from this film. The diner looks exactly the same. Amazing!
Nice pics! place hasnt changed. I would love to go out there and visit maybe grab a burger or something. One of the best scenes in part 5. Billy was a cool character
I didn’t know about the attached building either. The aerial view of the property shows that the building is pretty big.
Ahh, the diner scene makes me think of when Lana says “its showtime”. One of the nicest tit shots in the franchise.
I can even see Lana’s washroom! “It’s showtime!” Billy cracked me up in every scene he was in..”Anytime doll.” LOL
That is carzy – that is 3 miles from my home! I’m going!!
NICE FIND! I just watched that scene and there is no mistaken on this one. That is the location without a doubt. Just take that dinner sign down and throw some awnings on those front windows and its almost like it was back in the day.
Shame I am a East Coaster, because I know my luck.
I would spend days driving there to have someone tell me..
“Sorry buster, we’re closed!”

I went there tonight – funny thing is that I’ve been there before – just never recognized it – the attached section is an outdoor patio and store – it is a huge biker hangout! Jay Leno hangs there.
Wow! I’m impressed the building has hardly age for 25 yrs. after ANB. Even the sign & everything is still there compare to some other locations in F13th films that change.
Great pics!!!, always a pleasure watching locations of Friday the 13th…. and that reminds me I have to go someday to visit Nobebosco!… it’d be just… incredible to me…
Hey, I’m going to leave here a link to a horror shortfilm of mine called VERONICA. It’s inspired by “Halloween” and “Friday the 13th”. It’s english subtitled and it can be seen in two parts. I hope you’ll enjoy it. Thank you all!!

I wonder how many people the property owners get that stop by their establishments solely because of the Friday connection. I wonder if there are any interesting stories out there from those owners, like if some woman went into this diner’s bathroom and whipped her boobs out and said the showtime line.
Lannnnaaa, hey laaaanaaaaa.
“What the f*ck is she doing..”
Any Entourage fans catch this week’s episode? They were having lunch up at the same diner….
