Friday Conversation: Continuing The Storyline Of Part 5
Love it or hate it, ” A New Beginning” was to change the direction of the Friday the 13th franchise in the mid 1980′s. The idea that Jason was truly dead and, in essence, transferred his evil persona to nemesis Tommy Jarvis was going to be the foundation of Paramount’s continuing franchise. In fact, there is a fan novel being written as we speak, titled “Friday the 13th: Tommy Jarvis”. The story of this piece of fan fiction picks up right after the ending of “A New Beginning” and takes the reader through Tommy’s crazed path into madness. Check out the finished chapters to catch up on Tommy’s exploits. Do you think that Paramount should have continued the storyline created...
Friday Conversation: Naming The Sequel
If there is one lesson learned from Rob Zombie’s Halloween movies, it’s that you should not name your sequel the same as the original series sequel. For instance, when having a conversation with someone about Zombie’s Halloween 2, the inevitable situation will occur and the question will be asked, “are you talking about Halloween 2 from the 80′s or the new Halloween 2″. It’s hard enough to keep track of 12 films in the series now, but can you imagine having two keep track of two movies titled Friday the 13th and Friday the 13th Part 2? It would make for an even more confusing conversation when trying to explain events within the franchise to a novice. Perhaps it...
Friday Conversation: That Thing That Makes You Go, Huh?
With so many movies in the series, there are a great number of scenes in the Friday the 13th movies that have made people at some point think to themselves, what was that all about? We have discussed a lot about the confusing endings of the original movies and parts of those endings have induced the feeling of, huh? Maybe you just don’t understand what a character is doing in a scene, or better yet, what they are doing in the movie in the first place. Perhaps, there is an editing problem in a scene and it just isn’t flowing correctly. Really, anything goes. Let us know what one, or even multiple parts of any movie in the Friday the 13th...
Friday Conversation: What Sequel Story Would You Create?
By now, most fans are frustrated with the lack of progress of the sequel to the 2024 Friday the 13th reboot. There have been a couple of stories kicked around pertaining to the sequel and Brad Fuller has even confirmed that the script turned in by Damion Shannon and Mark Swift had part of the sequel not only set at a camp but also in part during the Winter season. Some of these ideas are what most fans have been yearning for. The idea of a somewhat old school Friday the 13th movie at a camp would be a dream come true for most fans. As we all know, the franchise has had loyal followers for decades and those...
Friday Conversation: Creating Your Death Scene
Whenever we the fans watch a Friday the 13th movie or any other slasher, there is that inevitable moment where we think to ourselves, man I think that should have been filmed a different way. Also, as a movie plays itself out, ideas begin to churn inside a horror aficianado’s head on how the perfect stalk and slash scene could be created and filmed. You know you have had one of the scenarios come up at some point in your life. Maybe you have even filmed a scene or two yourself or made a fan film as well. If you had a chance to write a screenplay or film a movie, what would you do? If you had the...
Friday Conversation: Why Didn’t Jason Leave The Barn?
Friday the 13th Part 3 is at the top of most all fans lists as the best of the series. Not only does Jason receive his trademark hockey mask, he also receives the axe cut in the mask as well. The axe cut in the mask has also become a trademark of Jason. Until the Freddy vs Jason and the reboot films were released, the axe mark was apart of every mask shown in every movie that was produced after Part 3. However, Jason receiving the axe mark on the mask is the basis of our conversation today. After Jason seemingly had Chris cornered in the barn and ready to strike at the end of Part 3, Ali pops...
Friday Conversation: John Carpenter’s Friday the 13th?
A visitor to our website, TheRustyMachete, wrote in this past week and asked the question, what if the roles were reversed and John Carpenter directed Friday the 13th and Sean Cunningham directed Halloween? I pondered the question and what the ramifications would be on each franchise. I think we should soley focus on a Carpenter version of Friday the 13th. So, what do you think a John Carpenter Friday the 13th film would look and feel like? Lets start with the fact that Friday the 13th, in essence, is a clone of Halloween. Freely and openly admitted to by Cunningham and associates, their Friday the 13th mimiced many aspects of the Halloween movie. So, with the originator of Halloween on board with...
Friday Conversation: Time To Retire The Franchise?
Everyone knows how much I love this franchise. I write about it every single day. It is really part of my childhood and a huge reason for why I started watching movies and made movies my number one hobby. That being said, we live in a new age of horror. Our beloved franchise was created 30 years ago and some of the principles and rules that powered the movies through the 80′s may very well be outdated. Jason Goes To Hell and Jason X tried different stories and approaches to the formula that was created by the series and received luke warm results at the box office and by the fans. Now, with a series reboot under our belt,...
Friday Conversation: That Night With Chris and Jason
Among the numerous inconsistencies in the series, there has always been two big “wait a minute” moments. One we have covered previously, which is the ending of Part 2. The other is the story Chris tells Rick in Part 3 about the night she first encountered Jason. The very first problem with the story is that Jason is wearing the green shirt and grey pants. The attack that Chris mentions happened months before Part 3 and Jason had just stole the shirt and pants from Harold and Edna. That is always a “huh” moment. However, the more interesting question has to do with what happened between Jason and Chris after the initial attack. Chris mentions to Rick that after she...
Friday Conversation: Opening Weekend Gross Of The Reboots
With A Nightmare On Elm Street opening today, and that franchise inexplicably tied to Friday the 13th for perhaps all eternity, I thought a question could be asked. Do you think that A Nightmare On Elm Street will open close to or more than the $40 million gross of Friday the 13th 2024? It is definitely a possibility. There has been a lot of hype surrounding Nightmare and Warner Bros. has been spectacular with promoting the film. That being said, there are some major obstacles for the movie to get around. One, it’s the last weekend of April. This is typically the slowest time of year, right before the Summer movie season begins. Friday the 13th opened at a date...
