Franchise Crossover: Friday the 13th Powers Of Matthew Star

We have had a long line of Franchise Crossover stories within the past year, and normally they fit more into the film industry rather than television. However, sometimes there is a pairing that is so awesome, it must be written about. Such is the case with the television show, ‘The Powers of Matthew Star’. The show starred two Friday the 13th film stars, Amy Steel (Ginny, Friday the 13th Part 2) and Peter Barton (Doug, Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter).

Synopsis

Matthew Star was a prince on the planet Quadris, who was forced to flee to Earth when his planet’s government was overthrown by despots. On Earth, he took the form of an ordinary high-school student (albeit one with superpowers), and was accompanied by his guardian Walt, who became the school’s science teacher. The American government knew of Matthew and Walt’s origin, and used them to act as agents on occasion

Does anyone remember this show? It took a moment for us to think of what this show was all about. The photo posted below is courtesy of Amy Steel’s Facebook Page.

  1. 2+2=4-2=2

  2. he was also in another horror flick, Hell Night 1981, scared the crap out of me then, watched it last year again…yeah, not so much this time around…but still fun.

  3. I remember that show but Peter Barton is the only one I remember in it. I don’t recall Amy Steel being in it. Cool crossover though. I have Hell Night in my collection and yeah on second viewing many years after seeing it for the first time, not so much. But it’s cool nonetheless. I saw this posting on Amy’s FB page as well. Cool beans! look at how young they look.

  4. Cool find. I also find another frachise crossover. In Weekend At Bernies (1989) we all know about Terry Kiser (Dr. Crews Part 7) playing Bernie dead and alive. But also Catherine Parks (Vera part 3) plays His girlfriend and of course they interact. I know that has nothing to do with the above story, but I was watching WAB the other night and that that was odd.

  5. This was one of my favorite shows when I was a kid, but I’d all but forgotten it until this post. For years, a ghostly vision of Lois Gosset Jr. haunted my brain, but all I could remember was that it was not Air Wolf I knew him from. Thanks for resurrecting this one, folks!

  6. Good show that aired on NBC. I remember watching it with Peter and Amy. I do remember he had quite a few powers, one I remember mostly he could leave his body but for only a short time or he died. Its a shame the show didn’t last long. My sister,Mary had a huge crush on Peter so she wrote him and he sent her an autographed photo of himself to her during the time he did this show.

I love Hell Night. Good early 80’s slasher.

Weekend At Bernies is one of my favorite movies. I have no idea why so much, but it really entertaining, even today. ” In Weekend At Bernies (1989) we all know about Terry Kiser (Dr. Crews Part 7) playing Bernie dead and alive.
